Laptop for Office/Admin work for RM1.3k

Hi all,

Hope everyone is safe and sound.

Helping out a friend here, he is looking for a laptop that can do admin / office work?

The specific usage I know so far is for Google Meets, replying emails, and something along those lines.

Budget is around RM1.3k (maybe Rm1.5k max?). I tried looking up online platforms but I couldn't find anything much from well-known brands.

No other requirements provided.

Any ideas?

Just Repainted My Car - Need to update JPJ?

Hello LYN sifus,

So here is the deal. I had my car repainted last month (first car repainted ever). Solid one color from original white to red. I have been told ever since I had my license whereby I need to update JPJ on the new car color to match the geran/JPJ system.

This is to prevent cases whereby in by any chance that I am in any incidents involving the said vehicle, and JPJ see the color doesn't match, it will cause more trouble to myself and not getting my expected result (e.g situation - in an accident other driver bang my car, then obviously not my fault, but then after check JPJ system - I pulak kena saman because car not same color *touchwood*) - something along these lines la.

So then OK, I went to JPJ Bangi branch yesterday afternoon, the pegawai bertugas specifically said that I don't need to update the color as it is not important (or at least not as important as new engine/chassis).

Hence, this current confusion. Or maybe there might be issues with the car insurance?

There might be law change that I might not know of regarding this?

Yes, I understand that since I went to JPJ already to clarify, that is the best first hand information I can get. Just thought of coming here to triple confirm if this is true. If anyone just repainted their cars, maybe you guys can share anything on this? Do you feel the need to update the car color? Pros/Cons? FYI, I'm not changing ownership / selling the car or anything, if that helps.

New Paint - How to know what I'm looking for?

Hi LYN users,

Hope everyone is staying safe.

So, I'm planning to get a new paint job on my car (roughly executing it in Q3/Q4 2020). Currently surveying multiple paint workshops for quotations.

I have decided to go with the color Soul Red Crystal Metallic 46v and this is what I tell the workshops on what color I want (or maybe mostly known as Mazda red?Not sure what does "46V" means, just saw it on a video title on Youtube).

My search so far has come up whereby I get a huge variance in prices for my quotation. Starting from RM2.8k , to RM4.2k (with glasurit) & all the way to RM5k++.

These are all quotes for inside out paint job, subject to extra charges based on once they have actually seen my car condition for the paint prep.

Therefore, here comes my question. What exactly am I looking for when choosing the paint job from a workshop? What makes the prices so vastly separated?

Is there any indicators I can use to compare between them? Such as paint brands they use? Clear coat brands? Paint thickness (is this a thing?) Prep process? How many paint layers?

Just wanting to have myself informed well before making any decisions. And also don't want to kena con by choosing the cheapest one and not getting what I'm expecting.

Also to note that these paint shops are quite similar in terms of popularity and well known, as well as reviews have been good for each of them from past customers.

If this helps, I'm located in Ampang, so looking at any workshops in klang valley.

USB 3.0 not working

Just realized my USB 3.0 port is not working on my laptop...

So i checked the device manager and came across this yellow exclamation mark (refer attachment for photo screenshot). Turns out something is wrong with it. I google the driver and it says it is an inbox driver that comes with win8 itself,so i have no idea on how to re install this.

I tried updating the driver, tried clicking "uninstall" and restart laptop, and it is still there without solving the issue..

Thought maybe some of you may have encounter this and hope to find a solution to it. Thanks.

Laptop is working but nothing is on display

Okey, it happened last night where suddenly when the laptop is switched on, nothing is showing on the display, however everything else seems to be working fine.

I know this from the windows sound was playing where when you are usually needed to type the password,which i did blindly and press enter, another windows sound can be heard when you usually succeeded in entering the password and manage to be at your desktop homescreen.

However, the laptop display is still pitch black, HDD seems to be spinning fine, all led indicators seems okey and so on. Been trying hard restart by holding the power button to force shut down multiple times (with and without battery) but nothing seems to be working.

I have been looking up on google for some solutions where i tried messing around with the ram sticks, taking it out and swap ram slots,etc2, but nothing works

Was thinking of sending it to HP service center in lowyat (believeed compaq is owned by HP and i guess that's where i should send the laptop for repairs) However, thought i might try my luck here and see if anything that i can do on my own first.

Or perhaps, any other recommended trustworthy place for me to send the laptop for repair, if not, at least for some diagnostics only to get to know the cause of the problem before proceeding on repairing it? Area around ampang/cheras/kl...

Replacing graphic card on OEM desktop

Hello sifus of LYN.. Happy chinese new year and happy holidays to all..

my GC is somehow broken as the fan is no longer spinning, making it shoots up to 113 degrees Celsius while light gaming, making them unplayable (lowest setting at dota 2 at 20 FPS max) Well,playable, but ugly as hell..

QUESTION: Is it possible to swap out the graphic card to aftermarket ones? since the original gc is gt120, is possible to put in a new gc that is available in the market now?

I pull out the viewnet DIY pricelist and saw some GC that are in range of my budget (rm100 - rm200). I have my eyes on the following(for price reasons as well as their names are the closest to the original graphic card)

1)MSI gt620/MSI gt630

2)Asus g210 or MSI g210

I have been having this pc since 2009/2010. So i guess its time for the parts to wear out?

Before, i am able to play NFS shift with ease, and now this happens..

Just looking for some guidance. Anyone here play SSL?

As SSL have shutdown, I am finding a new game to play similar to SSL.

I play the dance mode and it is really fun. Especially when they add my favorite Japanese songs.

SO, my question..any other games that serve the same purpose as SSL?the feature of dance mode 6 keys as well as having japanese/anime songs in it?

DOTA Tutorial Quest(Dragon Knight)

Hey guys. Need some help. My friend just created a steam account and have the beta key. Installed the game just fine. However once we login and start the game after the valve head thingy, it goes straight to the tutorial quest.

We tried everything but could not close the tutorial quest or exit/skip the tutorial. Therefore, my friend cant play dota games normally whether it is pvp,practice with bot,etc..no main menu whatsoever... Just wondering whether anyone have encountered this issue as well? Few of my friends have steam account for a long time already but did not have this issue. only this one guy who just created his steam account..

Please help!

Need a new GUITAR CABLE - HELP!

Alright.seems like there was a guitar cable thread two years ago but it is closed.So i guess i will just open a new one.

Hello to all. I am here to ask for advice/recommendations regarding guitar cables. Only have been playing guitar(electric) for 2 years and 3 of my cables already "broken", "kaput", not functioning well. Have to shake the cable or "angle" the cable correctly at the amp to get it working. It was a rm30 cable i think. well, of course i expected it to have a very short-life expectancy. Also, i understand that it is part if the cable's life cycle to die off..but is it normal to die that quickly??

And here i am trying to look for a new one.

So... What brand or price range of cables is considered to be "decent" or high quality? I'm looking for a short cable only for bedroom purposes, at least one with right angle input jack.. Saw Fender and Epiphone cables for rm60.. Are these ones okey to use?

Will the guitar tone be affected depending on the type of cable used(material,etc..)?

EDIT: Also, just found out about Planet Waves cable..looks promising..is it really that good?

Major Handling mod - RM5k budget

Okey..i have searched the previous threads to get an idea on what can be done with the myvi 1.3 ezi.

Basically, with rm5k budget, what else can be done for Major handling mods..?

the objective of the mod is to increase the car's stability while speeding on 140km/h as well as having a smoother,faster engine response as minor mod (NA mods)....Currently even on straight line it will "gegar"..vibrate..even from 120km/h onwards..let alone on corners..the car will be used sometimes for long distance travel..300km - 400km++.

So..what comes to mind would be as follows..

1) Change suspension - GAB?Hotbits? any other recommended brands? - guessing the one with the soft-hard settings would be sufficient?or must get the fully adjustable one? what's the price range like?

2)Rims/tyres - change to bigger rims and thinner tyre profile?currently on 14"..so maybe a 15" or 16" and wider tyres? ; estimated budget.. <rm1.2k

3) UR bars - full set needed?or just specific parts like strut bar,sway bar,etc?price wise? not sure about the price range also ..rough estimate will do for those who knows..

4)If have extra budget..then only can move on to engine NA mods..(k&N filter...exhaust system,...lighten pulleys...individual throttle body? lol...)

Seeking help from sifus2 here...really noob on mods...

I would like to upgrade my ram of my pc (model pc: p6150d) anyone here knows the price of the ram PC3 -8500? just rough estimation is good enough.. and lets say if i go to a shop, should i just say "i would like to buy pc3-8500 DDR3 ram..." or are there any other names for this ram?thnx in advance..srry, first time trying to upgrade a pc... @_@
