Hi guys. I did a search on Reddit / Google, but mat salleh don't use tarps like us. We tarp to keep out of the sun and use it as cooking/lepak area.

I plan to upgrade from present square 3x3 tarp. The idea is 4x3 might be more ideal.

My question is: what type of tarp do you prefer and why?

I'm thinking of gettign a catenary cut because I think it will be more taut than square or hex, but not as taut as octogon.

Thoughts?

Based on my research, the duties & sales tax can be paid through Pos Malaysia. Is this true? Some say must go to KLIA and pay. Tak berbaloi macam tu.

Switch not honouring 10.15 sales?

I bought something from Switch on 10.15. They promised delivery today. But there has been no pick up as of today.

Instead, there's a message saying that if they do not pick up, tomorrow automatically cancel.

There is no button to extend shopee guarantee.

Is this normal?

Hi fellow parents. My wife and I are discussing which martial arts style we should enroll our child in.

The list contains MA styles that are available within 15 minutes from us (yes, I do research).

Our goal is to instill discipline, live a healthy lifestyle, self confidence and learn self defence.

I was wondering if any parents here can share what their experience has been with their chosen style and whether they would have chosen another style.

So far, I've narrowed it down to TKD (ITF or similar) which allows kyorugi and Judo which allows randori at early age. I also found a Muay Thai school that takes kids. This is attractive because no gi washing involved, no exam fees.

What do you guys think?

Immich - A Google Photos alternative

Hi guys. I recently decided to give Immich a try for an alternative to Google Photos. So far, I'm very pleased with the results.

Equipment used:

1. Raspberry Pi 4, 2GB

2. WD Blue X2 (1 for photo + dB, the other redundancy)

3. Maiwo SATA docking station

The interface is very similar to Google Photos, however, it lacks some of the not so important features such as collage maker or automatic photo albums.

The most important feature are:

1. Automatically sorting photos by DateTimeOriginal / Creation Date.
2. Automatic de-duplication
3. Facial recognition
4. Smart search

The ML features certainly make it stand out among the self hosted alternatives. Immich includes a remote ML function. i.e. my Pi will use the GPU on my desktop for ML purposes. The GPU is not needed after the initial ML process.

The Android app is pretty good too. No DNS needed. Just tunnel into my Pi when I'm outside.

You don't need a pi, of course. Any computer would work. However, the Immich Devs recommend using HDD in ext4 FS.

As for cost, my set up cost RM705. However, my Pi has been with me for several years now. If I were to start from scratch with a Pi 5 4GB, the set up would cost me RM834.

When comparing this with Google One 2TB (the lowest package is 100GB, not suitable), my set up will be cheaper after 20 months (RM834 / RM42.99).

For redundancy, I use Rsync to clone my main HDD.

Of course some LYN will recommend I pixelfy or buy a Pixel 5. The thing is, we don't know when Google Photos will clamp down. This way I am in full control and have another backup, while I continue to use Google Photos + iCloud (free. Ada orang sedekah family plan).

The cons:

1. Need to VPN.
2. No frills
3. Pi gets hot. Need to aim fan at pi when uploading photos.

I'm not sure if this the correct forum, but I get the feeling that renovation contractors are now charging double or triple.

In 2021, I contracted someone to perform toilet water proofing for me. Two small toilets and I was charged RM1900.

One of the two toilets have leaked, hence I decided to approach others.

One foreigner quoted me RM2,500 for one 8*5 feet toilet while the local quoted me RM3,500.

How is it possible that this is now so expensive? The cheapest quote is 3 times what I paid in 2021.

Question: Has renovation cost increased dramatically? If so, why?

[mini review] Edifier W320TN

I claimed warranty for my TWS NB2 and was offered W240TN as a replacement. Both are in-ear with proper ANC.

However, they allowed me to have W320TN as a replacement by topping up a little bit. I was curious if this could compete with an Apple airpods.

SOUND
Airpod Gen 2 and TWS NB2 wins. Gen2 is more crisp while the TWS NB2 is more warm and great overall. W320TN has better bass than the Gen2 but I hear "more" on the Gen2.

FEATURES
W320TN strangely doesn't come with EQ or gimmicky stuff like "spatial audio". There are just four EQ presents to choose from and you can't set it to "flat" either. This is very strange.

ANC
Surprisingly useful, but it will not be as effective as in-ear models. So it's not great when I was on a plane or train. In contrast, the TWS NB2 has amazing ANC. The Airpods are hopeless in this department.

COMFORT
Very comfortable. As good as Gen2. I have to take off the in-ears 2-3 times in an hour, but pretty much never with the W320TN or Gen2.

BATTERY
Battery life is comparable with the Gen2, but slightly weaker than the TWS NB2.

Conclusion
W320TN offers good sound, limited but still functional ANC and comfort.

ps. Props to Edifier for making my warranty process painless.

Computer hardware prices

Hi guys. Just finished buying a new budget rig on 11.11.

I'm shocked that a lot of computer parts - mobo, CPU, SSD - are more expensive than US MSRP.

The last time I put something together was a decade ago. Prices in US was higher than lowyat price list so I waited till I got back and secured parts from Techview and Linglong aka dotatech (at the time they didn't have brick and mortar shops yet).

Now, it's cheaper to put a rig together in US after conversion.

Can someone explain why? I remember that since the late 1990s, our computer hardware prices are lowest in the world. Am I wrong?

What sort of PCIE extension cable should I buy?

Hi guys. I have an old Asrock H97M Pro4 motherboard.

I want to install a Samsung EVO 970 NVME SSD in the PCIE slot using an adapter.

However, if I slot it in, it will block airflow to my GPU.

I'm thinking of using a PCIE cable to circumvent this, but I don't know which to buy and what holes to cucuk.

Any advice?

Hi guys. I have a problem with my TV. Wondering if you guys have any advice.

It doesn't bother me that much, but I was wondering if it could get worse if I don't do anything.

Model: Mi TV 4S
How old: 1 month
Was it there out of the box? Probably. I didn't notice until my kid was watching cartoons (bright pastel colours).

1. Can this be fixed?

2. Can this get worse?

3. Should I claim warranty? Seller is in Penang and I'm in KL.
