Broadband provider
ISP/package: StreamlessX
Location: Home Network
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Would like to see what forumers got to say and advise.

Personal equipment
Modem: ZTE ZXDSL831
Router: Aztech DSL605EW
Firewall used: Kaspersky Firewall

Problem details
First occurence of problem: -
Problem frequency: -
Problem description:

For the record, I have very little experience with networking. So please bear patience with me.

Router and Modem have been upgraded to latest firmware, with the exception of the Aztech Router being downgraded 1 version below for less-frequent disconnection with StreamlessX: build021.

Previously, I had Aztech as a single modem and router to provide internet connectivity but often facing frequent disconnections... on a personal observation, I noticed the ZTE modem was more stable keeping its connection to StreamlessX but did not have wireless features I used often.

What I had in mind was to use ZTE to establish internet connectivity while using my Aztech as a router for both wired and wireless connectivity with other computers. This setup is for home network usage.

Now the questions:

One, What are the options of setting up both my modem and router to work seamlessly together? I did some reading online and found the following methods being recommended:

setup 1. modem (bridged) --> router (dials up ISP) --> LAN/Wireless.
setup 2. modem (dials up ISP) --> router (bridged) --> LAN/Wireless.

I would like to know a detailed method of how these two can be done - and which is more preferable, and why? I've tried to configure setup 1, but I couldn't establish internet connectivity... while setup 2 works - but 50/50 - I'm quite puzzled of the configuration in both the modem and router. Perhaps there's something wrong in my configuration settings... and I hope someone can guide me to setting both modem and router properly?

Two, having a workable internet connection using setup 2 above - is it possible for me to assign one IP address for the modem WebConfiguration and assign another IP address for the Router's WebConfiguration seperately? I tried setting a different IP for the router and assigned the Gateway IP pointing to Modem's IP but that didn't work somehow. How do I go about doing this without losing internet connectivity, or the fact that I have to shut down the modem so I can configure the router?

Three, regarding the network setup mentioned above, where do I assign DHCP and NAT configurations... on the bridged router? or on the modem? Seeing my network connection is using setup 2 right now, any advise on configuring that setup would be much appreciated.

Hope you guys here can advise... thanks.
