New to VPN, any suggestion?

hi, i have not setup any VPN before. Total noob.
As I am spending more time WFH ever since MCOs, i thinking maybe I should start safeguarding my activities/or data moving forward.
I skimmed through alot of past threads here, but there are so many recommendations. I checked the price for a few, some are super cheap (less than 10rm per month, some are like more than 50rm per month)
The more I read, the more i am lost, till the stage I do not know how to gauge what is good for me.

Most of the time i:
a. p2p download (at the moment i usually hit 3mb ish)
b. netflix (smart tv)
c. soundcloud (pc)

My router:
a. standard unifi 30mpbs, using stock ZTE provided by unifi

My desired needs:
1. If possible to set router to share VPN across devices e.g. tv, android tablet, phone, pc, that will be awesome, but hopefully the learning curve not that steep and its like a one-time setup (no need to sign-in everytime restart router or modem)
2. Netflix. If its a hassle, I can live with not using VPN for netflix (smart tv) and tablet. I can just login VPN via pc everytime.
3. more secured surfing
4. I can access to more content if certain content is restricted by region. (mainly US content)
5. uncapped/unlimited quota as i p2p dl quite regularly
6. soundcloud content (i listen to alot of synthpop, house, ambient tracks)

Ultimately, the main priorities; hoping to dl p2p abit more anonymously, listen to my soundcloud (often encounter tracks not available in our region) and have a more secured surfing.
Best is if VPN is setup via router, then no need to keep loggin in here and there in devices, but if beyond my capabilities, then i am ok with just using PC.

Your advice is much appreciated!

Recommend graphic cards for small form factor pc?

Hi sifus,

I recently bought 3 optiplex dell 7010 sff, those small form factor desktop, from a friend who closed down his business during this mco.
The specs are
I3 2nd gen
240ssd
8gb ram (not sure what type of ddr)
Win10

Bought them at rm450 each to help out my fren, since he is not doing well and shop quoted him around 250 to rm300 max.
Just nice, as i going to hire 2 more part timers to do some basic product uploading (for ecommerce) and light photoshop work like enhancing images. Sometimes these parttimers play some games like csgo or dota2 after work with my fulltime staff.

So i am thinking of upgrading these newly acquired desktops with some budget graphic cards, maybe 512mb, or 1gb cards. 2nd hand ones.

The thing is i am old bird already, the last time i sort of custom build my pc for gaming was like 12 or 15 years ago, stopped gaming, so my knowledge of graphic cards is rather basic. The most i know is how to check bottleneck.. very simple knowledge

Anyone can advise any good site to research these type of low profile graphic cards suitable for small form factor desktops, or recommend cards for my spec? So when i go garage shopping, i know what to look out for and avoid buying cards that cannot work.

Thank you! Sorry for the essay.
Any suitable rechargeable battery for mouse

Dear Sifus,

My office admin purchased 6 cheapo china wireless mice from shopee last month but staff complained need to recharge frequently, like every 2 days.

I didn't realised these wireless mouse comes with built-in usb charging, i thought it is the type which we can remove the battery easily e.g. with battery cover.
In the past, when i ask admin girl to help me buy, it is usually those type which battery cover can be removed, just replace the AA battery thats all.

I opened one and see, it is a regular AA oem kind of rechargable battery.

I am wondering if anyone bought mice that has built-in charging usb and replaced your rechargeable battery with a better one like those enloop or energizer ones with high mAH.
Should be ok right?

and
is it safe to recharge via mouse's built-in usb (or should i get staff to open mouse to swap battery, and use those 'official' batt recharging adapters. (just abit more troublesome to use screwdriver to buka)
Scared later explode if they charge it overnight in office.

Didn't want to waste the cheapo mice, quite decent, silent clicking, staff is ok to use just that frequent recharging is distracting, so thinking of swapping them for reputable rechargeable batteries.
(tried googling but didn't yield results whether can use mouse's own charging usb to charge these enloop batts)

Thanks!

SSL certs

Recently there are rumours chrome (latest ver) going to impose "unsafe / non secured" webpage to those websites which do not have SSL cert.
This is a headache for me because alot of my clients (I am a website designer) do not have SSL (i didn't recommend it since most of them are SMEs
with limited annual budget for website related costs).

This means I need to convince all of them to pay more for SSL.

Although I am a designer, I knows very limited server related knowledge.
For those of my clients with SSL, i just subscribe SSL service via the same host master (e.g. serverfreak, exabytes, ipserverone).
Most of my clients' content are either small ecommerce / wordpress websites.
The cost of SSL I found range from rm150 onwards (per annum), was thinking it will be uphill task to explain the "additional" high cost,
especially when average hosting plan I offered is around rm250.

I did preliminary research in google, but kinda confused.

My questions are:
a. Which to go for, comodo, geotrust, symantec, rapidSSL?
b. Any recommendation for cheap or bulk purchase of SSL certs?
c. How much should I spend per website?
d. Any other tips?

Thanks guys!

Zenfone maxpro M1 vs Xiaomi Mi A1?

hi sifus,

I am stuck with considering either:
Zenfone max pro m1
Mi A1

Pros of Zenfone:
1. Better processors
2. Slightly bigger screen
3. Great battery life
Personal comments: I am a sucker for processors. Battery is not that important to me.
I have a soft spot for slightly bigger screens too.

Pros of A1:
1. Better rear camera
2. Stock android
3. Abit more ram
Personal comments: I love the fact its stock android, felt abit more ram is great.
The dual 12 camera is good to have, can take better pics of my daughter.

I gone through quite a few youtube reviews and a few reviewers said the zenfone's performance like tak match the
assumed performance of the spec. I also had a bad experience with zenfone performance and lag (forgot which model
but its the very first 4gb ram in the market a few years ago).. which i promptly sold it off within 2 days.
Quite hard for me to make decision because the nerd in me say go for zenfone (only price difference of like 30 bucks more ex)
for its better spec. But phobia lo..
A1 is cool with stock android, but see the processor, batt and screen size like abit biasa compared to zenfone.

Anyone tried and tested both phones before? Any valuable thoughts? (welcome all comments).

Hypptv box stop supporting Google play?

Hi,

It's my first month using unifi for the first time.

I explored with hyyptv box, and only find out I can't use Google play, even though I signed in successfully.
So I contacted TM livechat and he told me TM stop supporting google play services recently.

So now I cannot install iflix, or kobi.
While I can watch those with PC, but frankly I prefer to use my bigger screen led tv to watch shows.

Oh and there so called VIU Korean streaming is no longer offered.

Did anyone face the same issue?

Hi Sifus,

Its my first day using unifi after converting from streamyx (been using streamyx for 10 years).

There is a issue I encountered:

My mobile devices can connect to unifi 5ghz, speed is normal, around 30mb as advertised.

But my 4 pcs at home are running a typical wifi adapter, which connects only with 2.4ghz unifi.
When I run speedtest, it shows the same: 3mb download, 6 mb upload.

Any advice?

Thanks!!

I always wondered, what makes us qualify for a courtesy car when our car is stuck in the sc? When should we ask for it?
What are the limitations and SOP?

E.g.
Aircon compressor kaput but the waiting time for the replacement is 2 weeks - 1 month.. can we ask for one, since it is not really drivable in humid malaysia.

Anyone can share your experiences?
When you are offered a courtesy car, when u ask for it successfully..and which brand, which sc?

Thanks!

Burning questions abt selling a private apartment

Hi all,

I am selling off my private apartment in 3 days time but I am very curious about quit rent, assessment, ultitlies.

I haven't sold any property before, and have bought 3 properties before..all brand new, so I am really inexperienced.

My case:
1. The buyer is paying full cash.
2. I haven't paid any assessment, quit rent since day 1, for past 16 months.
3. I haven't paid any water bill since day 1 (accumulate till 68$). There is a deposit of 100$, I think paid by developer.
4. I haven't activate the electric, even though the developer has arranged the forms fully filled.
5. Maintenance fee I paid till March 2016, didn't pay the next quarter yet.

My questions are:
1. Should I clear the assessment now? Then get the buyer to give me back the balance prorated? Do I have to go and cancel it by informing the mbjb office?
2. Should I clear the water bill? Then quickly cancel it and take back the deposit?
3. Should I check out whether electric is opened(although no bill since day 1), maybe the electric tnb was waiting for me?
4. What else should I watch out so that I won't be cheated somehow...

Thank you!!

Fixing a power inverter in car

Hi,

Need your expert advice.

I am hoping to use a laser printer while travelling as I need to print frequently
for my staff.
I did research on putting a power inverter (either a 500W or 1000W),
tapping from my car battery.

But while I research, I got really confused and not confident at all to fix it.

My questions are:
1. Some websites recommend I put another fuse to prevent overload.
Should I get it? Where to fix it? Where to put it? What is the fuse capacity?

2. Some websites say I should ground it to the car chassis, but use the negative
point to ground. Should I do it? Is it dangerous?

3. Some websites say I should get a pure sine-wave inverter (very expensive)
as modified sine-wave regular inverter (cheap) is not suitable for laser printer.
Has anyone tried it?

4. Any other pointers I should look out for?

Thank you!!

Serious: Restructing Committee of GnG

Dear all,

I like to ask for serious advice.
If an committee of a GnG taman wants to step down entirely, after serving for more than 1 year,
is that possible?
What are the concerns and in what way the current committee can step down properly?
In the committee, there are chairman, asst chairman, secretary, auditor, various sub committee in charge of security, maintenance, improvement matters, treasurer. On top of that, there are row representatives who collect maintenance fee and disseminate/gather information from residents.

Current facilities:
Garden area maintenance
Electric and water usage of common facilities and guard areas
Security company services (outsourced)

Issues at the moment:
1. Turn out of residents during AGM is less than 20% of the entire taman
2. Committee wished to step down but find difficulty in getting volunteers to replace them

Cited reasons:
Too many residents are simply bossy and taking committee for granted.
Some of the residents are extremely vocal especially in social media, make unnecessary
remarks about the poor performance of the committee.

Is there any professional advice, especially if you encountered this before?
In what way can the committee "force" the residents to accept the mass resignation and
in what way can they get residents to replace?

There are consideration of handing over to a management company but there is still
requirement to have a standby committee to "oversee" the management company, in which
the current committee is also not keen in doing.

Thank you!

tnb overcharging me

Hey guys, need your advice..
My residential house was recently billed 1700 for the past 3 months. Why did it get dragged?

The last bill before this $1700 bill, was in October.
It stated my meter is faulty. So for the next two months, two different technicians came by my house to view my meter and said there is no problem. Shortly, on the 3rd month, Dec, I received this shocking $1700 bill. Within the bill, it simply overcharge me with extra electric units.
My average bill per month was 220-270, for the past 3-4 years.

When I called and emailed to complain, they said they have changed my meter. This is untrue, as my meter box is locked and it is still that dusty member dated 2009.
After when I sent some extra emails with photo evidence, they say they will resolve it and reimburse it. Moreover, the tnb station in charge of my area also send an email, saying my problem resolved, it will reflect on the next bill.

Again, they did not do anything and just add up my bill with last months usage. I complained again yesterday and today I received an email from both tnb main customer team and tnb station from my area, saying it is resolved and it will show in the next bill again.

What can I do? Anyone faced this before? Thanks.

Hi all,

Need your advice on a very stupid question.

I ordered a new myvi meter and a pair of boot springs for a defective car boot.

Should i bring it to a car service workshop to change them for me, or a car accessory shop?
Which is better? (especially if the speedometer may need more expert help).

Thanks!!
