Electronic/pc repair shop in PJ?

I have a Rosewill rk9000 keyboard, the one that was notorious for having a flimsy mini USB port.

My USB port came loose and the solder probably broke, having trouble connecting it to the pc.

Any store in PJ that can fix it? Just resoldering and then reinforcing the port with epoxy glue. Though I personally don't really know how to get around it.

Somehow feels like it's hard to find shops like last time where the person on the store can do repairs on the spot

CPU Turning on and Off. Where to repair?

Dear sifus,

Desperately need your help. I left my 1+ year old computer on last night to download a game, this morning, woke up to my CPU turning on and off itself non stop, the PSU will power up the CPU for a few seconds, then it will power down few seconds, then power up again.

I removed the RAM stick and slot it back in and tried again, this time the computer will power up for a minute or so as if it's running (but monitor had no display), then it will off itself again, and the cycle continues.

I have no idea what's wrong and don't think I'm skilled enough to troubleshoot it. . Possible for anyone to recommend a computer repair shop I can send my CPU to in PJ area?

Cancelling Business License with City Council

Would like to ask how do I cancel business license with MBPJ.

Basically, we have a license for each of our office premises and recently we no longer occupy one of our premises.

So now I am left with the MBPJ license for said premise.

How do I go around cancelling it yeah?

OR is it possible to just leave it be and allow it to expire at the end of the year with no repercussion?

Travel Insurance for laptops?

As per title, would like to ask the sifus here if anyone knows of some kind of travel insurance for laptops.

Basically, my work involves travelling around Malaysia with a crate of laptops to run computer literacy workshops for needy communities. We will be travelling to East Malaysia by plane often, and would like to have our laptops insured as we are afraid that the laptops might be stolen, or go missing during transit. And also even for coverage when we do our workshops (rural and interiors areas in Sarawak).

Difference in Hotlink top-up and Reload Plus?

Hello,

I just bought a RM10 Hotlink Reload Plus card from your Maxis Center at Tropicana City Mall. The card is scratched opened to reveal the code already but your staff assumed me that it's still usable and all the cards are scratched.

I tried to use that Reload Plus Pin to buy the below

But it keeps getting error.

Then I realised that the top-up I bought might be different from the normal top-up for Hotlink.

1. So I would like to check with you if there is a difference between the normal Hotlink top-up and Reload Plus?

2. Also, Reload Plus cannot be used on your mpoints purchase like the link above?

3. Is it normal for cards to be scratched open in Maxis centers?

I'm pondering whether to go back to confront the staff and see what he says.

And it just dawned upon me that he didn't give me a receipt!

Clarification on Negative Review for Traders

Dear admins and mods,

I would like to seek clarification now how "reviews" are given to traders in their trading threads.

My negative review of the trader Darksider on his tread > [WTS] zPayLess Steam & Uplay Shop, missed Black Friday Sales? PM (PC) https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3333998/+680 was removed after it was reported by him (unlikely anyone else would have there reason to do that).

Would like to know if that is how it is supposed to work? That negative reviews can be removed by sellers at will?

What transpired was that I wanted to purchase a game from the seller & found out I was blocked and ignored by him. So I used an alt account to get the quotation (really wanted the game) and asked why I was "banned".

So apparently I was "banned" because I did not give him a good review nor did I respond to his subsequent PM where I asked to quote for 2 other games Screenshot below. I forgot to reply to that & that incurred his wraith.

Because he said I didn't give a review & he subsequently "banned" me because I was troublesome, I decide to leave him a review as asked, not a glowing one obviously. But it was reported & removed.

It is his right as a trader/seller to deny service to anyone of his choosing, I do not deny that nor will I contend to that.
But is it not the buyer's right to leave a negative review (or not leave any review at all) too, without incurring the wraith and grudge of the seller? He asked for me to remove a post from Steam thread and I did out of respect. But he deemed it offense enough to "ban" me for such frivolous reasons.

Was my review rightfully removed when I merely pointed out how the seller behaved and to warn others that this might happen to them for frivolous reasons?

Also, how does negative reviews work? Can sellers/traders report and remove reviews at their whims and fancy & just keep glowing positive reviews on their thread to "build" their reputation and "sugar coat" their service?

How Necessary is 16Gb RAM or SSD

Hi Sifus,

I would like to get some advice. So I got some discounts to spend on either another 8Gb RAM or a 120 or 250Gb SSD. It's like a RM100 discount, which is a lot.

But I've been thinking how big an upgrade it will be if I get either one of them and whether they are worth the money? Would they boost much of my computer's performance to warrant the money spent?

D3 1600Mhz kingston 8gb
1TB Caviar Blue
Capstone 650w
zotac gtx 970

I haven't had much of an issue with the loading of games and applications so far, and I understand that 8Gb RAM is quite decent unless you run multiple browser tabs AND play games AND running some programs at the same time, otherwise you will rarely utilize all 8Gb. I usually rarely multitask and close my browsers when I play games, so it doesn't look like I will max out 8Gb RAM at one time.

Quite confused at whether I should spend the money to grab one of them just because I can save Rm100, or just save my money all together.

Any opinions? Thank you all!

TM new account deposit amount?

As per my title, I am curious if anyone knows how much I need to pay for the deposit of a new TM account (for phone). I was told it can be quite a huge sum of money?

Background information: my company is currently going through a transition period, and we want to cancel our existing TM phone account (still keeping the phone number), and re-applying it under a new company name. SO I am curious about how much to pay for the deposit.

I've been Googling the process of applying for new TM account, but I have yet to find any information on it.

Preparations to enter corporate world?

Hi, I am currently unemployed and looking to venture into the corporate world. But the issue it seems, is that I feel so ill-prepared to go into the corporate world. I read most of the requirements of the different places I've searched, most needing prior work experience etc etc. And I've been wondering if I should try maybe going in somewhere as an intern to learn before applying for a full-time job, then I see requirements that you need to be a fairly recent graduate (2014-2015) (looking at you Accenture). And it's just fairly demotivating.

About my background, I graduated with a Psychology degree mid if 2013, and I did an internship in an NGO, doing video and photo editing and archiving (which I came to realise that it was a waste of time as I could have tried a corporate internship instead). Then early this year I worked in the special needs education field and had to leave because of incompatibilities. My background has mostly been in the education field, volunteering as tuition teacher in poor communities, NGOs etc. So as you can see I know nuts about the corporate world. And I didn't expect myself to even venture into the corporate world, so I wasn't prepared at all for it in terms of exposure.

So yeah, any advice would be great.

I guess my concern is that, i look at different positions (consultants, HR, Marketing, IT programming), and I feel so unskilled, and it makes me wonder if I should somehow find a way to get an internship first, instead of trying to get a full position. And I know I learn fast (lately, I taught myself to code HTML, CSS and Ruby), it's the problem of how to get myself a chance to learn in a corporate company.

Hello, as per topic, can anyone recommend an affordable and decent driving school around PJ?? Been searching around and I guess what I'm worried about is going to smaller driving schools that might have hidden charges on top of the usual price.

I've Googled Metro, SDC, Perfect Driving Academy, and wanted to see if there are any other choices around.

Would smaller driving schools be recomended?

Recommendations for dry and chapped lips

As the title said, I have dry and chapped lips. Any recommendations I can easily get from drug stores?? I tried Face Shop's Fresh Lip Balm and another brand Metholanum (or something along that line). And it just feels like they dry up my lips even more rather than moisturizing it.

The only other brand I tried that felt like it actually moisturizes my lips was US's Buxom brand lipgloss, but you can't find it here.

So yeah, any recommendations for lip balm/gloss or something that actually moisturizes??

Laptop win7 corrupted system files

Hi, I have some issues with my Asus laptop running Win7 and I need some help.

I have no idea when it started, but basically, it started with windows event viewer not working, I keep getting "Event Log Service in unavailable. Verify that service is running."

Then I noticed that I cannot connect to my Maxis Broadband (wifi works fine, can connect to Unifi or other wifi services). I get "Error711: The operation could not finish because it could not start the Remote Access Connection Manager service in time."

Even though I can connect to wifi, I could not run any diagnostics on my connections, it would give me an error saying "Diagnostic Policy service is not running".

Googling the issue provided me a temporary fix. Apparently there are some issues with the files in C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup

File names:
EtwRTDiagLog.etl
EtwRTEventLog-Application.etl
EtwRTEventlog-Security.etl
EtwRTEventLog-System.etl
EtwRTSteam Event Tracing.etl
EtwRTUBPM.etl

If I delete those files in C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup and restart the laptop, the issues I had with Event Viewer, Maxis Broadband (remote access connection manager), Diagnostic policy service will be gone and I can run them just fine. But once I shut down my laptop and start it up again the next time, the files in C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup are back and those issues are back until I delete those files and restart again.

Any idea how to fix this?

So I've ran SFC /scannow in safe mode and normal windows mode, and there are some corrupted files that SFC can't fix automatically. Below is the logfile. Could it be the issue? I have no idea how to fix them manually. And I was told the "windows 7 OS installation thingy" is built into my laptop (Asus A43SK), so I have no idea how to access it.

AS the title says, I have zero knowledge about makeup, never tried them and avoided it like the plague for so many years. 20+ now

So lately I've been interested in playing around with makeup, but I have no idea where to start? Anyone can give opinions on how to start??

Read a bit online and it seems like many recommend learning eyeliners and mascara first before moving on to learn other stuff??

I am basically looking to have a simple natural look with my makeups (no heavy stuff). I have a fully hooded eyelids, so I realised I can't really draw my eyeliners thick.

And the most important question is that, are there any makeup counter (cheaper brands please) that provides good tips and even show you a makeover??

Where to get hypo-allergenic titanium studs?

As the title says, anyone knows where I can get hypo-allergenic titanium earrings? The plain kind without fancy gems or design. Wanting to find one for everyday use. I went to those stalls that sell earrings in malls and they only have stainless steel and silver earings. Go to Poh Kong, it's all fancy earrings.

My piercings still hurt and bleed after so long and I suspect it has to do with the stainless steel studs I got. Hoping to try titanium earrings for a change.

Anyone knows where in PJ area they sell titanium earrings?
