Lotsa waiting to report convoy from Putrajaya to Istana Negara.

Then just now a TV3 reporter had to report inside vehicle cause of heavy rain. His collegue, had to report holding a pink umbrella near Bukit Damansara, due to rain also. She reported the convoy came from Istana to housing area.

Tough job today.

Flag ceremony Olympic antics

Watching the flag ceremony now. Really shows lotsa ways their flagbearers carry their flag.

There are a few methods, from ideal to downright awkward:

1. The Co-operative, guy on left using right hand and girl on right using her left hand. Flag is held up straight by both, ideal look.

2. The Forever Alone, only one flag bearer, mostly guys.

3. The Odd couple, guy and gal both tried to use both hands on the flag pole. Ends up, one is more dominant than the other when they try to wave the flag.

4. The Just the Tip, usually the gal have one lazy hand on the end of the flag pole, while the guy is the one really holding the flag. Also if the guy is really really tall, this is kinda unavoidable.

5. The Dont Even Bother, while both flag bearers are present, only one gets to hold the flag, usually the guy. There are some instance where the gal is the flag bearer. The guy would be slacking around.

6. The Stunt Team, both guy and gal work together to spin the flag. Very risky move but kinda fun to watch. Also gal gets to hold the flag while the guy does a flip.

7. The Both Ends Covered. One is holding the pole with both hands in an angle while the other holds the top corner of the flag cloth. Get to show the flag in total.

Weak pronunciation on English TV news

Bomber is pronounced "bomb - mer" not "bom - ber" or "bom - ba". The second b is silent.

This is an example how a TV news reader had pronounced certain common words. It seems there is a lack of concern towards clear pronounciation. This is not a matter of accent but lack the know how that some English words are not read directly the way it is spelt. Eg, knife is spelt with the letter K but we pronounce it as "nife". The K is silent.

The current younger newsreaders (both male and female) are not up to standard compared to those part time veterans newsreaders, like Raymond Goh, Kevin Barnaby, and Suriati Sanusi or current active ones like Azaria Tagaya, Mohanaa Priya and Brandon Lipaul.

We used to learn good English from our tv news reader. In a few years, it is worrying to see the standards going down further.

What other example of bad or wrong pronounciation your have heard from our local English news on TV?

MY should be like Kuih Lapis

Recently watched a very interesting docu about food on TV Sarawak, specifically on Kuih Lapis. The aunty making it is 80++ years old, but her hands still very steady when cutting. You see, numerous different coloured strips of the kuih are cutted and then assemble back together with jam. The more intricate the design, the more layer is needed. Hence it takes time, effort and patience to make it.

So how does this relate to MY? Imagine each layer (colour) represent a segment of the society ( in terms of ethnicity, creed or culture). It is not Kuih Lapis if there is only one colour. So is MY, made of multiple layers but can still distinguish each colour. Therefore we must strive to be organized evenly to create greater harmony. It is the intricate pattern emerge that creates value. That takes time, effort and patience to make it.

UNESCO status for Kopitiam and Kedai Mamak?

Forget matching Singapore's UNESCO status for their Hawker culture. Recently watched a docu about the topic.The reason why Singapore is successful in gaining recognition is based on 3 things working together:

1. Having an ecosystem of hawkers and patrons (every one goes there, rich or poor)
2. A variety of food which are affordable (even if those food are source from various ethicity around Asia)
3. Having numerous Food Court / Hawker centers in every major neighbourhood while some of the major ones have good architecture feature - aethetically and functionly.

Since most Singaporean lives in HDB, their local Food Court becomes their communal dining spaces where all walks of life meet.

In Malaysia, the only other 2 things that may have a shot at UNESCO status are our Kopitiams and Kedai Mamaks. Both these have their respective associations. Only need someone good enough to stake our claim instead.

Fuiyoh, the Battle Commander is back. Tan Sri DG mentioning the previous battles won including Battle of MCO and Battle of CMCO shows how he is optimistic to win the current battle.

He sounds a bit pissed after a reporter mentioned about Trump's covid. Tan Sri mentioned everyone is vunerable as Covid19 virus dont care who you are in life.

Dr Noor Hisham got emotional for his retiring dep

Dr Noor Hisham got emotional when announcing the retirement of a trusted "general" , Dr Rohaizat (the Dr usually on the right hand side of Dr Noor during pc). Shows just how good and humble Dr Noor Hisham is towards his collegue.

Imagine when the time comes for Dr Noor Hisham himself to retire wajib, whole M'sia would cry.

Our beloved DG was in a good mood in today's PC and made a joke about implementating "penjarakan" while downloading MySejahtera app to avoid "kesesakan". Social distancing in the virtual world also to avoid congestion (700k download a minute). He had a grin in his face while answering that question. Anybody catch that?
