Wireless Access Point

Will appreciate it if those of you are are experts in Wireless Access Points, give me a good recommendations on which WAP to buy for my company. We have used Ruckus Zoneflex 7341 Access Points all this while but we need to replace them all now.

We need about 10-15 APs to cover the 3 floors in the building. Our budget is very limited, so the price must be below RM1000, preferably between RM300-RM600 for each unit. We will prefer to get the Ruckus APs again but they are beyond our budget now.

Basically, the AP must have the following features :
1) Have Power Over Ethernet (POE) capability
2) Can allow more than 30 users simultaneously
3) Have multiple SSID for Wifi connections

So far I have received the following recommendations :
1) Tplink TL-WA901ND
2) D-LINK DWL-2600AP
3) D-LINK DWL-3600AP
4) D-LINK DWL-6600AP
5) Linksys LAPN300

Which should I choose from the above ? Or can anyone recommend any other better APs ?

Thanks in advance.

Linksys WRT54GL and ZTE ZXDSL 831 Modem

Hi,

Recently my modem/router got faulty and a friend gave me a old modem to use. I can connect Streamyx internet direct to my Pc using the ZXDSL modem. I am now trying to connect the ZTE ZXDSL Modem to Linksys WRT54GL wireless router but it does not seem to work. When I try to connect it to WRT54GL it does not work and gives message "Cannot get IP from PPPOE Server".

I have never used this ZTE modem before. Previously I have used Dlink and Aztech modems which could connect to the WRT54GL without any problems. What could be the problem ? Hardware or settings ? Can't find any guide on the ZTE modem anywhere. Even Tmnet said they cannot help.

Can anyone guide me on this.

Travelling to Kepong

My company might be moving to Kepong (particularly to Plaza Menjalara) in 2-3 months. Anyone who are working or living in that area can share the details such as the transport, traffic, food accommodation and others ? Really worried about the traffic jam situation as people keep on telling me it is a bad jam area. Is it true ? My company might provide buses to ferry staff from the PJ Hilton area to Plaza Menjalara. If so, how long will it take for the bus to travel from the PJ Hilton to Kepong, let's say if the bus leave at 7am or 8am ? Really need this detail to plan for the future.

Also, how about the food accommodation there ? Which place is the right place to eat for the right price ? Apart from the Chinese restaurants, is there any Indian, Malay or other food stalls there ? I tried to google about Kepong but there is not much to be found.

It is really sad that we have to move to Kepong after working in Petaling Jaya all the while. The company is doing badly now and the new owners think moving to Kepong will boost it's business. It is a big gamble and not sure it will work or not. For the moment, the main thing that worries me is the travelling. Getting really panicky now as never been to Kepong and don't know anything about that place.

All the help and advice will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Kingston RAM - lifetime warranty issue

I need some advice regarding the Kingston RAM products. When they say their RAM is covered by lifetime warranty, do they actually mean it or have some conditions ?

I bought a Pc in 2008 from a Pc shop. It has Kingston 2GB PC800 DDR2 RAM which came with a "lifetime warranty". That time, the shop owner claimed the RAM can be replaced by Kingston free of charge anytime it gets faulty. After 4 years, the RAM got faulty now. I don't have time to go to any Kingston centre. So, I asked the shop to send it to Kingston to replace the RAM. But the shopowner says the "lifetime warranty" means only when the RAM is still under production and not forever. He said Kingston will charge administration cost of RM15 to replace the RAM since it is no longer in production now. He also said Kingston will only entertain retailers like him and not individuals if the RAM is no longer in production. Is it true ?

Can someone clarify on this issue ? Thanks in advance.

Parse message : RCINT failure when boot up WinXP

I get this message whenever I boot up my Pc, just after the WinXp welcome screen :

RCINT failure. Stringtable ID not found. ' 42' at line 462

I always have to enter 10 times to enter WinXp login screen. After that, I can use everything as normall except for the occasional virus found message.

Anyone know how to solve this ? I don't want to re-install WinXp yet.
It all started when my Pc got infected with some Trojans when I was looking for serial number for some games. It disabled my AVG antivirus and won't let me go to any anti virus websites. I then installed Avast antivirus and used various antivirus/anti-malware tools to clean it but it kept coming back. Then, I tried Dr.Web's CureIt tool and felt like it was cleaning some infected files but when i restarted the PC, this message came up and has been there ever since. The trojan/malwares are still in my Pc and keep coming back even after cleaning.

Will appreciate it if anyone can help/advice how I can overcome this problem if at all. Thanks.

Cannot connect to internet using Linksys router

Broadband provider
ISP/package: Streamyx
Location: Puchong
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Yes

Personal equipment
Modem: Aztech 600E
Router: Linksys WRT54G Ver 7
Firewall used: No

Problem details
First occurence of problem: Sept 20, 2009
Problem frequency:
Problem description:

I am sharing Streamyx for 2 Pcs using Linksys WRT54G router. Since I use internet a lot, I seldom disconnect the line unless there is a heavy rain. Unfortunately on Sunday (Sept 20, 2009), there was a heavy rain with lighning while I was sleeping. I disconnected all the cables as soon as I woke up. When I connected back all the cables later, I was relieved the modem and the router can be ON and the DSL light was up as well. However, I couldn't connect to internet and there was no Eth/Act light on my modem ! I got panicked as lightning had destroyed 2 of my modems before. (I know I should have bought a lightning protector!). I called Tmnet but didn't tell them I was using internet during the rain !. They reset the port at their side and asked me to try. When I do the modem-to-Pc direct connection, I can connect to internet without any problem and the Eth/Act light was up. But when I try using the router, again cannot connect to internet and the Eth/Act light was down again. But all the light on the router seems to be working fine and I can get the wireless signal on my second Pc. Only problem is cannot use internet. The status on the router settings page say "disconnected". When I tried to manually connect, it said "Cannot get IP address from the PPOE server".

Since I can connect direct from modem : my Netword Card, modem and the netword cables are working fine, right ?

Since I can get the wireless signal from my router, it means the router is working fine, right ?

If the lightning had strike, surely it would have totally destroyed modem/router. So it can't be anything to do with lightning, can it ?

So, what could be the problem ?

I have been using the router since July lasy year and had never faced any problem until now. Since it was a long holiday and I could use direct connection, I didn't do anything else like resetting modem/router yet. Would appreciate it if anyone can help me solve/settle this problem. I am not very good in networking, so hope you can give me step by step guide/advice.

Thanks in advance.

Need advice on buying pc

Ok, I want to buy a new pc. But I can't seem to make up my mind on what configuration I should go for. What I know is I want a speedy pc with a bigger hard disk. I seldom play games but am a Net addict and play videos frequently. So I need a pc based on this criteria. I got the following configuration from a pc shop and is thinking if it is a good one.

The price they quote is RM2388 without a monitor. Beside that, I also need a TV Tuner card. My budget is rm2000-3000. So, I need advice on this ..is it a good one and worth paying this much ? I need advice ASAP.
