LAMAN sosial tempatan gempar dengan penularan beberapa keping foto penemuan sebuah patung di tapak pelupusan sampah.

Bungkusan berbalut plastik yang disangka mengandungi mayat sebenarnya adalah patung berbentuk manusia.

Bagaimanapun, ia bukan patung ‘mannequin’ yang dipamerkan di premis pakaian sebaliknya objek yang digunakan untuk kegiatan tidak bermoral.

Seolah-olah tubuh manusia sebenar, patung yang bahagiannya boleh ditanggalkan itu dibungkus rapi menggunakan plastik dan diletakkan berhampiran tong sampah besar di deretan rumah kedai di Seksyen 27, Shah Alam, Selangor.

Bungkusan yang dibuang di lorong belakang barisan lot kedai bersama sampah-sarap seolah-olah sama seperti babak drama dan filem.

Susulan penemuan itu, laporan polis dibuat. Pasukan polis dan forensik dilihat memasang pita kuning serta mengepung kawasan sekitar bagi menjalankan siasatan.

Kejadian berkenaan telah disahkan oleh Ketua Polis Daerah Shah Alam, Asisten Komisioner Baharudin Mat Taib.

"Satu bungkusan menyerupai mayat manusia dijumpai di Seksyen 27 pada 8 Februari jam 3 petang oleh petugas Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) Waste Management Sdn Bhd.

"Hasil pemeriksaan Unit Forensik Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen (IPK) Selangor mendapati bungkusan tersebut hanyalah berisi patung lilin berbentuk perempuan yang dibalut dengan kain selimut dan plastik," katanya.

Menurutnya, kejadian tersebut diklasifikasikan sebagai 'no offence disclosed' (NOD) berikutan tiada sebarang kesahan jenayah dalam kes tersebut.

PETALING JAYA: Ketegangan semakin memuncak dalam Umno berhubung keengganan Putrajaya memenuhi tuntutan parti itu supaya membenarkan pencarum Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) membuat pengeluaran baharu daripada simpanan persaraan mereka, kata sumber.

Isu itu menimbulkan pertikaian antara Presiden Umno Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dan pendahulunya, Najib Razak, yang juga penasihat Barisan Nasional (BN), dengan Naib Presiden Umno dan juga Perdana Menteri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“Presiden menyatakan pendiriannya dengan sangat jelas, beliau mahu pengeluaran KWSP dibenarkan. Begitu juga Najib,” kata sumber Umno peringkat tinggi itu.

Pendirian mereka disokong oleh kenyataan Majlis Kerja Tertinggi (MKT) Umno pada 27 Ogos bahawa kerajaan mesti akur dengan permintaan rakyat, termasuk pengeluaran sekali gus sekurang-kurangnya RM10,000 daripada akaun KWSP mereka.

Kata sumber itu, Ismail turut menghadiri mesyuarat parti bersama-sama Ketua Penerangan Umno, Shahril Hamdan, yang juga merupakan penasihat ekonominya

Perdana Menteri baru-baru ini berkata, kerajaan tidak akan membenarkan pengeluaran KWSP selanjutnya, manakala sokongan Shahril terhadap pendirian Putrajaya mengundang kritikan hebat di media sosial.

Sumber itu berkata, masalahnya adalah “tokoh tertentu” dalam kerajaan menentang desakan berhubung pengeluaran KWSP.

“Umno mahukan pengeluaran KWSP seperti yang dijelaskan oleh Presiden dan Majlis Tertinggi. Perkara ini telah dibincangkan dengan PM. Kami mahu kerajaan pertimbang semula keputusannya,” kata sumber itu.

Sumber itu berkata, kerajaan pimpinan Umno patut mendengar pandangan parti itu kerana ia adalah parti akar umbi yang tahu keadaan di lapangan dan apa yang rakyat mahukan.

“Rakyat sedang bergelut akibat sekatan. Mereka meminta pengeluaran KWSP sebelum banjir lagi. Jadi kerajaan mesti dengar,” katanya.

Sumber itu berkata, kebimbangan semakin meningkat bahawa Umno akan menerima padah akibat keputusan yang dibuat oleh menteri-menterinya dalam kerajaan yang tidak selaras dengan kehendak parti.

Rentap, The Warrior

Rentap, the (Dayak) Iban warrior who stood up against the British when they began to colonise Sarawak.

Originally named Libau anak Ningkan, the name Rentap was bestowed upon him when he cut off the head of their first enemy. He was also the chief commander of the Iban warriors in Skrang and Saribas.

Rentap wanted to get rid of James Brooke from his homeland because the British were messing with their culture and way of life.

Brooke wanted to abolish the taxing system practised for many generations by the heads of the village and their traditional practices (i.e. head-hunting). However, Rentap was not on board with those ideas and was not happy with that Brooke saw them as pirates.

Therefore, he gathered his people – who also weren’t fond of the changes imposed by Brooke – to attack the British forts at Sungai Skrang.

On 19 August 1844, Rentap and his warriors ambushed the British army as he claimed his victory over the battle. This victory aided Rentap’s rise to fame as he was even more respected by his people.

On 24 July 1849, Brooke returned with his army and attacked Rentap’s village. He brought his navy ships – H.M.S Royalist, H.M.S Ranee, and 8 other smaller ships – into Skrang and Saribas.

Then, on 31 July 1849, the largest battle that ever took place in Sarawak killed 500 of Rentap’s people, but the war was a victory to him because he managed to protect their chiefs.

In the year 1857, James Brooke sent Sir Charles Brooke to attack Rentap’s fort at Bukit Sadok.

Sir Charles managed to convince 3,000 Iban people and 500 Malay people to join the attack against Bukit Sabok but the attempt was proven a failure because the fort was impregnable. Not only that, the British couldn’t claim victory because a cannon named “Bujang Timpang Berang” was used to defend the fort.

After countless battles, Rentap died at the age of 70 years old. His legacy continues to live on in every Malaysians’ hearts.

His battle cry, Agi Hidup, Agi Ngelaban – which roughly translates to So long as I live, I will fight – still lives on until today as it’s the motto for the Malaysian Royal Ranger Regiment.

PENGORBANAN SEORANG POLIS

Tan Sri Khoo Chong Kong (lahir 1925 - 14 November 1975) adalah Ketua Polis Perak (DCP G/4218) . Beliau telah ditembak mati oleh dua pengganas komunis di Ipoh pada 1975 iaitu semasa Darurat II di Malaysia.

Sebelum berkhidmat dalam pasukan Polis Diraja Malaysia, Khoo Chong Kong adalah bekas aktivis Parti Komunis Sarawak (PKS). Sebelum menyertai pasukan polis, dia telah menyerah diri kepada pihak berkuasa. Beliau telah banyak membantu menjayakan operasi pihak keselamatan negara dengan berkongsi maklumat penting.

Pada 13 November 1975, iaitu pada waktu lepas makan tengah hari Khoo Chong Kong telah mati ditembak oleh dua orang pengganas Parti Komunis Malaya (PKM) yang menunggang motosikal, di garisan lampu isyarat simpang Fair Park dengan Jalan Anderson, dalam bandar Ipoh, Perak. Turut terbunuh, pengiringnya, Sarjan Yeung Peng Chong dan pemandu keretanya.

Bagi mengenang jasanya, sebatang jalan di Ipoh telah dinamakan sempena namanya 'Jalan Koo Chong Kong.

Tambahan pula Koo Chong Kong telah diberi penghormatan tertinggi 'Tan Sri' oleh Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has offered to nominate himself as the prime ministerial candidate in the event that the upcoming vote of confidence in Muhyiddin Yassin succeeds in toppling the latter, MalaysiaNow has learnt from two party insiders.

A senior party source said Zahid announced the matter to Umno MPs during a closed-door meeting in a bid to convince them that he would not back any leader outside the Malay party in the plan to exit the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

Out of Umno’s 38 MPs, only 15 are said to have backed Zahid’s call to revoke support for prime minister Muhyiddin.

The source said Zahid had pledged to persuade MPs from Sarawak’s GPS as well as from PAS and Bersatu to boost the numbers to allow Umno to “return to the driver’s seat of the government”, in an apparent reference to a speech by Zahid’s deputy Mohamad Hasan during the Umno general assembly in March.

“This is why the likes of Noraini Ahmad and Shamsul Anuar Nasarah were willing to resign from their positions in government,” the source said, referring to two ministers from Umno who quit the Cabinet.

“They believe that Zahid will succeed and that they will be given better positions in his administration.”

Yesterday, a PKR office bearer revealed that opposition blocs outside of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition were against any attempt to name Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.

This appeared to be confirmed by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, who said Zahid had “sworn” not to support Anwar for the top post.

Zahid alongside former leader Najib Razak have been at the forefront of a campaign to get Umno MPs to renounce their support for the PN government.

The duo had even supported Anwar, the PKR president, for the top office last year in a letter addressed to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Zahid and Najib have been slapped with multiple corruption charges involving millions of ringgit of public funds and a charitable organisation.

MalaysiaNow previously detailed meetings that Zahid had with Muhyiddin, in an attempt to get his charges dropped, something the prime minister recently confirmed.

But another source said that Zahid was now sceptical of whether Anwar would be able to dispose of the corruption cases against him due to the presence of DAP in the PH coalition.

“Zahid also knows that Anwar cannot do as he pleases to release him because the leaders in DAP like Tony Pua will not stay silent,” the source told MalaysiaNow.

“So to encourage Umno MPs to rally around him, Zahid has assured them that he will be the prime minister.”

Pua, the Damansara MP who was among the most vocal opposition MPs denouncing Najib’s role in the 1MDB scandal, recently warned that any vacuum caused by the collapse of PN would be filled by Umno, allowing the party to return stronger at the next general election.

He said while the opposition might have its best chance to get back at Muhyiddin, who was among the key leaders who engineered the downfall of the PH government, his replacement could be from Umno.

“And when any Umno leader becomes PM, wouldn’t all the kleptocrats be set free (or possibly even regain power)?” Pua asked, in an apparent reference to Umno leaders from the so-called “court cluster” who are facing multiple corruption charges.

Muhyiddin has assured that his position as prime minister will be determined by a confidence vote in the upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting next month.

PETALING JAYA: Pekan MP Najib Razak and Bagan Datuk MP Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are eligible to be appointed prime minister even though their corruption cases are still pending in court, lawyers said.

A Srimurugan said it depends on whether either one wants to accept the position and whether he has the support of at least 111 MPs.

Srimurugan said Najib is still a member of the Dewan Rakyat even though he was convicted by the High Court last year for corruption in relation to RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.

Najib was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering.

“Article 48(4)(b) of the Federal Constitution is clear that Najib can remain an MP until he exhausts his appeal in the Federal Court,” he said.

Srimurugan said Article 48(1)(e) of the constitution states that an elected representative is disqualified if he or she is convicted and sentenced to a jail term of two years or more and/or fined RM2,000 and more, and has not received a free pardon.

The Court Appeal in April heard submissions from lawyers apearing for Najib and the public prosecutor. Judgment has been reserved.

Lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, however, doubted if Najib could go for the position as he had been found guilty and was on bail.

He said Zahid was eligible as he was only an accused person and his trial had yet to be concluded.

“In law, he is still innocent until proven guilty,” he said.

Zahid, who is the Umno president, is facing trial over 12 criminal breach of trust, eight corruption and 27 money laundering charges involving RM117 million belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.

The High Court has set Aug 24 for lawyers to make oral submissions after the close of the prosecution case in March.

Yesterday, lawyer Bastian Pius Vendargon said an MP from the current Perikatan Nasional (PN) government can be appointed prime minister to replace Muhyiddin Yassin, provided he wins a confidence vote in the Dewan Rakyat.

Alternatively, he said, an opposition candidate who comes from a different alignment could be appointed if he had the numbers.

Vendargon said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong can appoint the candidate as prime minister if the confidence motion succeeds.

Another route for appointment is for the King to rely on ‘extraneous methods’, a legal principle established in the Perak case.

This includes interviewing MPs and receiving statutory declarations or letters of support for the King to make a judgment call.

Lamag assemblyman Bung Moktar Radin was appointed Sabah deputy chief minister after the conclusion of the 16th state election last year although his corruption trial is ongoing.

Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah (JSJ) Ibu pejabat Polis Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan, berkata kenyataan itu dilihat mampu menyebabkan kegentaran awam serta menggugat keamanan negara, dan seorang lelaki yang dipercayai kini berada di Jerman, N Ganesparan, 39, sedang dicari bagi membantu siasatan.

Unit Siasatan Jenayah Terkelas Bukit Aman Bahagian Pendakwaan/Undang-undang (D5), JSJ mengendalikan siasatan, selepas satu rakaman video bertajuk 'Racist in Vacine Malaysia' dimuat naik di laman Facebook Ganesparan Nadaraja.

"Di dalam video itu seorang suspek mendakwa vaksin berkualiti rendah dan tidak berkesan dari China jenama 'Sinovac' diberikan kepada golongan bukan muslim manakala muslim diberikan vaksin berkualiti tinggi jenama 'Pfizer'," katanya dalam kenyataan malam ini.

Klip video berdurasi lapan minit 54 saat itu telah menerima 550 respon, 247 komen, 395 perkongsian serta kira-kira 10,000 tontonan, selain turut dikesan ditularkan melalui aplikasi WhatsApp.

"Kes disiasat di bawah Seksyen 4(1) Akta Hasutan 1948, Seksyen 505(b) Kanun Keseksaan iaitu kenyataan yang mungkin menyebabkan kegentaran awam dan Seksyen 233 Akta Komunikasi dan Multimedia 1998," katanya.

Menurutnya sejak tahun 2018 hingga kini, polis turut membuka 18 kertas siasatan terhadap lelaki itu di bawah Akta Hasutan 1948 dan kesalahan-kesalahan di bawah Kanun Keseksaan termasuk Seksyen 298A, Seksyen 500, Seksyen 504 serta Seksyen 505(b).

"Semakan dengan Jabatan Imigresen mendapati pergerakan keluar terakhirnya ialah pada 2 November 2017 melalui Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur dan status pasportnya telah dibatalkan pada 25 November tahun lalu.

"Orang ramai diminta beri kerjasama sekiranya mempunyai maklumat mengenai lelaki itu untuk tampil bagi membantu siasatan," katanya.

Abd Jalil seterusnya menasihatkan orang ramai agar sentiasa peka dan cakna dengan inisiatif vaksinasi yang sedang dilaksanakan kerajaan serta tidak mudah terpengaruh dengan berita-berita yang tidak dipastikan kesahihan sumbernya.

PETALING JAYA: Reports have emerged of a Malaysian man allegedly being attacked outside a subway station in New York in the United States, with his masked assailant believed to be still at large.

Newsweek reported on Thursday (March 4) that the attack occurred outside the entrance to the East Broadway F train station, not far from Manhattan's Chinatown, at around 11pm.

Camera footage of the attack showed Teoh Ming Soon, a 56-year-old construction worker who has been in the United States for 20 years, being punched by a masked attacker on his way home.

According to the report, Soon sustained a blackened left eye and injuries to his lip.

The footage was later shared on Twitter where the attacker seemed to be waiting at the subway entrance for Soon to approach before assaulting him.

The attacker then walked down the stairs towards the subway.

Later, Soon told WABC-TV that the attack happened too fast and he could not remember anything.

"I don't know why he attacked me. Maybe because I'm Asian?" he said.

He was later sent to NYC Health + Hospitals/ Bellevue where he was treated for his injuries and discharged.

The New York Police Department hate crime task force is now investigating the incident and is offering a US$2,500 (about RM10,180) reward for information leading to the attacker's arrest.

There has been a rise in attacks on Asian Americans in the United States in recent weeks.

Time reported that on Jan 28, elderly Thai man Vicha Ratanapakdee was shoved to the ground while on his morning walk in San Francisco, California.

The 84-year-old died two days later and his alleged attacker, 19-year-old Antoine Watson, has since been charged with murder and elder abuse.

Other reported incidents include a 64-year-old Vietnamese grandmother who was assaulted and robbed in San Jose, Callifornia, and a 61-year-old Filipino man who was slashed with a box cutter while on a subway in New York.Murica

Illegal foo chuk factory faces court action

NIBONG TEBAL: The Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) will take legal action against an illegal beancurd skin (foo chuk) factory in Sungai Jawi that has been operating for about 40 years.

Mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the factory had continued operating despite being slapped with a RM500 compound and a notice to stop.

"MBSP issued the compound under its Licence Payment By-Law 1980 for operating without a valid licence. The enforcement department also issued a notice ordering the company to cease its operations within three days from the date of issue on Feb 19, ” he said on Friday (March 5)

"However, it is still operating and we are gathering information to file the case in court," Rozali added.

It was reported that the land on which the factory sits was zoned for agricultural use under the Penang Structure Plan 2030 and no planning permission was approved for the site.

On Feb 18, investigators from the Health Department were shocked by what they found during a raid and issued five compounds totaling RM8,500.

They found the factory swarming with flies and the carcass of a dead kitten lying mere metres from where workers prepared foo chuk for drying.

Wooden planks were used as dividers in the processing trays for soy milk while dogs were wandering around the food processing area.

It is understood that the factory was under surveillance by investigators for a month before action was taken.

The foo chuk produced by the factory is packed under different brands and believed to be sold locally.

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested three teenagers for allegedly splashing red paint on the main gate of a house in Taman Nusa Indah, near here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the victim, a 42-year-old unemployed woman, was at the house when the three male suspects aged between 17 and 18 approached her at about 10pm on Tuesday (March 2).

“The suspects then splashed red paint on the house compound and some landed on the victim’s Proton Exora.

"Before leaving the place, the suspects left a note 'Today Paint Tomorrow Fire!'" he added.

ACP Dzulkhairi said the suspects were detained by the security guards of the gated housing estate.

He said they were handed over to policemen who also seized a car and two plastic bags containing red paint.

ACP Dzulkhairi said two of the three suspects worked as a barber and a cook while the third teenager was unemployed.

He said an initial investigation showed that each of them had a criminal record and tested negative for drugs.

The suspects, he added, were brought to court to obtain a remand order and the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.

NIBONG TEBAL: A 52-year-old man has apologised for spreading rumours alleging three restaurants had positive Covid-19 cases, causing their business to plunge.

Lim Swee Peng apologised to the restaurants, their neighbours, and the community for creating two posts on Facebook with photos of the restaurants attached.

As the restaurants selling duck rice, vegetable dumplings (chai kuih) and dumpling noodles have operated for generations and are well known among the local community, the post quickly went viral over social media before he took it down.

"I heard it from rumours and it was meant to warn others, never had I expected the information would be false.

"I sincerely apologise to the restaurants and everyone around.

"I now assure everybody that the restaurants are indeed Covid-19 free and there is no truth to the rumours," he said during a press conference at one of the restaurants in Sungai Bakap here on Thursday (Feb 25).

The restaurants' operators did not lodge a police report over the incident and forgave Lim.

Among the affected victims was Ernest Tan, 44, who operates the duck rice stall with his father.

"On Tuesday (Feb 23), the street turned quiet and there were hardly any customers in the shop.

"I was shocked when several phone calls came in asking if any Covid-19 cases were recorded at my restaurant, then I was told about the social media posts.

"Even neighbouring hawkers came to see me for clarification," he said.

Dumpling noodle seller Jerry Kee, 36, said he was disappointed over the incident as it affected the livelihood of his workers and villagers living around.

"Business in the entire village dropped because of the fake news.

"People are working hard in business to earn and feed their families," said Kee, whose mother started the business about 30 years ago.

Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik who was present to mediate the session urged the public to verify any information before sharing it.

"Seek confirmation of any news with authorities such as the Health Ministry before making assumptions and spreading information on Covid-19 cases.

"Although there are Covid-19 cases reported in this district, they are not linked to the three restaurants but the social media post of false information has caused people to speculate blindly.

"As the town is famous for local and traditional food, they suffered due to the fake news.

"I'm glad that they were forgiving towards Lim and the issue was settled amicably," he said.
