Alienware M11X

So i went to the UK for one year to complete my studies.
Whilst there i was looking online for a nice mobile gaming rig and everywhere i read M11X cropped up.
Got the m11x because its "ALIENWARE YO!" and cuz of some nice reviews i read about it.

2 problems cropped up.

ONE.
1.3mhz core 2 duo processor (ULV)
absolutely bottlecapping my rig. i did not realise at the time how important processing power really is.
although the battery life is fantastic (6 hours surfing, 2 gaming)
is there anyway. to increase processing power, without toasting the laptop.
or prudently overclocking it.

TWO.
Hinges.
It became a well known design flaw, after i received the damn thing.
The hinges upon which the keyboard and the screen rest upon, produce this cracking sound.
Illustrated by M11X HINGES FLAW
Warranty is out of the question, is there anyway i can get it fixed by someone, preferably not so expensively.
I would suppose this type of mechanical problem is not faced by the "computer shop people" normally.

Advice greatly appreciated.
