Non-stop international spam calls

Keep getting spam calls from different overseas numbers since 7 PM yesterday. They come in continuously, and every time I try to block one, another call comes in. I accidentally answered one, so now the spammers know my number is in use.

I use Google Dialer and had tried various methods including turning on the spam filtering and blocking unknown numbers, but that only staved off the calls for few hours. Now, at 3:30 AM, the spam calls are coming in again. I had to resort to putting my phone on flight mode and disable my SIM card to stop the interruptions.

What should I do? I can't keep my SIM card disabled forever, or get a new number just because of this.

Insurance for parents

AIA ExcelCare only covers up to age 70.
The premium increase by at least 15% each year due to the age of parents and premium now is almost 10k.
Looking for alternative now, anyone had any thought on HLA Asset Elite?
If it's still too expensive, may consider putting the money to be spent on insurance into savings instead.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Recommend a comfortable used car under RM50k

So, my dad's been sick, and I've been driving him between hospitals in the Klang Valley and our hometown. Trip to hometown is <180km one way, and while it used to be occasional, lately it's become a regular thing – about 1 or 2 times a week.

Right now, I'm driving a small 1.3cc car that I've been using for about 9 years.

My dad has a large build, about 180cm tall, and every time we get to our destination, it's a real struggle for him to get out of the car, especially with his weak legs.

I'm not really a car expert, so I'd appreciate some advice:

1) Any recommendations for a used car under RM50k that's comfy for long drives and for my dad? Power isn't a big deal, but good fuel consumption would be great. I've heard that a 1.4cc engine might mean cheaper road tax too than a 1.5cc?

2) Should I be keeping my old faithful 9-year-old car? It's served me well in the past 9 years for weekend drives and these hometown/hospital runs, but I'm wondering if it's time for a trade-in.

Correction: I think I used the wrong term "4WD"; I was actually referring to an MPV like the Honda CRV. I'm not really sure about the difference between 4WD, SUV, MPV, etc.

Car stuck in mud

Had a really great day yesterday, but when ready to drive back home, saw my car was stuck in the mud. Spent about 30 min maneuvouring the wheels up, down, and sideways but still couldn't get out. Tried flattening the mud with umbrella only to encourage an earth worm climbing up a wheel, putting a car carpet under the wheel only to have it flung out by the wheel when pressing the pedal. Kept getting out and back into the car many times. Lots of stress fighting the situation alone. The petrol dropped to one bar. Finally one young man came forward to offer his help, he asked another guy to join him to help push car out of the mud. I sat in the car pressing the pedal non-stop and worrying if I might break the engine. Mind already numbed by the escalating engine sound.

After that, energy exhausted. On the way home, suddenly remembered I forgot to take back the carpet that was used to carpet the mud. So car is now missing a carpet.

Went to sleep early, but woke up unexpectedly about 3am after hearing a sigh and feeling as if someone had laid down next to me. Maybe the low energy attracted certain beings.

1) What would you do if your car got stuck in the mud?
2) Why the men walked right back to their cars after pushing out the car, I didn't even get to thank them?
3) Is there a quick way to recover energy in this situation, to protect myself from the negative energy?

Warmer room after exposing ceiling

Changed the ceiling lights in my room to downlights recently, the guy who installed it poked 4 holes, each about 5" at 4 corners of the plaster ceiling. The ceiling has a layer of rockwool originally, during installation I saw the guy poked through that layer and sweeping the rest to the side.

After that I do feel that my room has become warmer compared to the other rooms that are still using ceiling lights, so I'm wondering about others' experience on this.

Do you install downlights and rockwool at your ceiling? Do you notice any difference before and after installing the downlights?

Also, as I think about it again, maybe I should have just sticked to ceiling lights. Apart from damaging the insulation layer, replacing the lights in future will have to expose those holes again, and who knows what small animals living in the attic

Advice need, on first property for own stay

Any advice would be most welcome!

I've done some maths, my savings + EPF will be just enough for me to get a property of <320k.

So the next thing to look at is Location.. I don't have a car and will be relying on public transport to go to work (near Pavillion), so it has to be somewhere geographically convenient.

Those are the main considerations. My other preferences include:
- peaceful and serene location
- freehold land (if at all possible!)
- low-rise building
- chinese food nearby

After some research, I've shortlisted a few apartments in Tmn Desa & Setiawangsa.

But I'd like to hear from you.. based on these criteria, which properties will you recommend?

Hi people.. your advice needed!

I'm thinking to work in the ERP line but I have no prior experience, with the following qualifications, do you think any companies out there will consider me for their trainee consultant or helpdesk support positions?

- Age: 30
- Degree: IT
- Working experience: banking, database

I've applied to companies like Accenture but I'm having no luck.. And noticed from other posts that newcomer like me need to have some "connection" in the industry to get hired (dang!). Since I don't have such connection, do you think I should keep on trying or should I just retreat and focus in the areas of my expertise?
