JAKARTA: President Joko Widodo on Tuesday (Feb 6) told officials that he had given his word for 2018 to be a haze-free year to the prime ministers of Singapore and Malaysia.

“In 2015, every time I met the prime ministers of Singapore and Malaysia, the complaint that would always be conveyed to me was about haze,” he said, according to a press statement from the Presidential Secretariat.

“The last time we met in India, the two prime ministers shook my hand (and said) 2018 hopefully will be like 2016 and 2017. I've told them that I guarantee (there will be no haze), so remember. I have told them, I guarantee, but if there is haze, where are we going to put our faces."

Indonesia is gearing up to host the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang this August and September, and the president called on officials to take strict sanctions against personnel who allow a compromise on haze-fighting efforts.

He also called on officials to continue intensive efforts in the prevention of land and forest fires, keeping the year haze-free and ensuring the Asian Games this year can proceed smoothly without any disruption.

“At that moment, do not let there be any smoke, or land and forest fires which will subsequently interfere with our image or even flights,” the president stated. “I repeat the rules of the game once again, if there are forest fires in your territories and it is not being handled properly, remove (the official in charge)!”

According to the statement, after reflecting upon his experience in the last two years, Widodo believes such rules are highly effective in mobilising personnel on the field. Its results can be seen in the decreasing number of hotspots in the past two years, he said, from 21,929 in 2015 to 3,915 and 2,567 in 2016 and 2017.

The president acknowledged the progress that had been made in handling land and forest fires by the government and its staff in recent times, and also called on officers to possess what he called "field intelligence".

Widodo made the comments while he led the National Coordination Meeting on Forest and Land Fire Control for 2018. The event was held at the State Palace and attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, several regional heads, as well as police and military officials.

When Pakatan Harapan won the 14th General Election (GE14), the nation has placed their trust on the new government to lead us to a better tomorrow, with this in mind, they have come up with the 10 promises in 100 days manifesto if they won the GE14.

After finding out how bad things were when the previous government was still ruling, they’ve issued a public apology that it would take a longer time for them to fulfill the 10 promises and the majority of the nation agreed to give them more time.

However, some sources beg to differ:

Looking at current developments through the flow of the new government Pakatan Harapan, the welfare of the people does not seem to be a priority. Their priority is to look for faults and to point fingers at another party. The aim is to distract the people from their failure to administer the country’s deal better than the previous government. They have proven to fail to fulfill the 100 Day Promise of the Expected Manifesto that expires on August 18th, 2018.

The economic crisis continues on a regular basis. Tens of billions of Ringgit was brought out by investors due to uncertainty over the leadership of Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad administering the national economy. Failure to renew business negotiations with China through government agents, Tun Daim, adds to the economic downturn.

The Malay race will be the next victim. Tens of thousands of Malays will be declared bankrupt within six months from now. Why? Geliga Naga informs that hundreds of thousands of contracted employees in Government Departments, Government GLC contracts have been terminated. In other words, these victims were laid off. The termination of employment is not just the contractual employees but it also involves all political appointments, including Malaysian Ambassadors abroad.

The above-mentioned groups have made loans from financial institutions through vehicle loans, credit cards, housing loans, personal loans and so on. How can they afford to repay whereas they now have no income following the termination of employment contracts? That means they will face court action through the banks and eventually they will be declared bankrupt.

Apart from the above victims, farmers who make loans through financial institutions are at the same risk. They make loans to conduct palm replanting, durian farms, swiftlet farming programs and other agricultural programs, which involve financial loans. All the above-mentioned agricultural modules have no market value. Therefore loan repayment failed to be made. It is anticipated that the group will face court proceedings due to the failure of loan installment payment in December 2018 or January 2019. Increasing the number of Malays to be declared bankrupt.

All the groups mentioned above are Malays. If the Pakatan Harapan government, led by Tun Dr. Mahathir is sensitive and concerned, none of this would happen. The Malays have become victims again. Not only are the Malays cheated in the promise of the 100-Day Pakatan Harapan Manifesto, but the situation is worse with the increase in the number of individuals to be declared bankruptcy by the end of 2018 or early 2019. What is the “hope” that the people can hope for from the Pakatan Harapan government mainly to determine the future of the race Malay in this country?

Mat Sabu: Only four out of RMAF's 28 Russian fight

KUALA LUMPUR: Only four out of the 28 Russian fighters jets owned by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) are able to take to the skies, says Mohamad Sabu.

The Defence Minister said that the RMAF had 18 Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30MKM and ten MiG-29 jetfighters.

"Only four of the Sukhois are able to fly well," he said, adding that the remaining 14 are under repair.

In his reply during the motion of thanks on the royal address in Parliament Tuesday (July 31), Mohamed Sabu said the RMAF was unable to properly maintain the fighter jets' airworthiness.

Mohamad Sabu also informed the House that the ten MiG-29 multi-role jets entered service in 1995, while six Sukhoi Su-30MKM Air-Superiority Fighter were delivered in 2007 and the remainder in 2009.

Earlier, he said that the ministry would stop awarding honorary ranks to politicians to avoid any instances of them "pulling rank" and abusing their position.

The Health Ministry may limit the operation hours of 24-hour eateries in Malaysia to midnight in their efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (KIMMA) is against limiting the operating hours of mamak restaurants and 24-hour eateries to midnight as it may lead to acts of khalwat

KIMMA president, Datuk Syed Ibrahim, believes that mamak restaurants provide a safe environment for people, especially for university students in the nighttime.

"These students hold study groups and discussions at a lot of mamak restaurants that are open 24 hours, seven days a week. It is a safe environment where boys and girls can mingle," he said as reported by Malay Mail Online yesterday, 25 December.

"What's going to happen if you take this away from them? They may go somewhere else that isn't safe.

"For Muslim students, are they going to a friend's house with boys and girls mingling around, unchaperoned?" questioned Datuk Syed.

He opined that such situations could lead to acts of khalwat (close proximity) and arrests by religious officers.

Datuk Syed was commenting on the Health Ministry's latest initiative to fight non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as stroke, heart attack, cancer, diabetes, asthma, and chronic respiratory diseases with a new set of policies to promote a healthier lifestyle.

One of it is limiting the operating hours of eateries in the country to midnight. Datuk Syed thinks that there's more to these restaurants than just providing food.

He also stressed that changing the closing hours of eateries may not necessarily help with the ministry's aim of creating a healthier society, and that the government should instead educate Malaysians about better eating habits

Malaysians will just end up cooking and snacking at home if there are no restaurants open late at night, added Datuk Syed.

"What are they going to do next? Tell people you can't cook after midnight? And what about during Ramadan month, when people need to have their sahur to fast the next day? Who is going to provide food service for them?" he asked.

He also pointed out that limiting the operating hours of restaurants in the country may affect the tourism industry

"We are known for our food throughout the world. Tourists come here and are amazed that food is available 24 hours a day. Have they thought how this would impact the tourism industry?"

Another concern Datuk Syed raised was regarding factory workers who have irregular working hours and always turn to mamak restaurants for hot meals.

"Where are these workers going to get their meal if they can't drop by mamak restaurants during their break? What about the security guards on night watch? Who is going to feed them?" Datuk Syed questioned.

He said that KIMMA will prepare a counter-proposal and submit it to the Health Ministry when the government makes an official announcement on the new policies.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is considering increasing the amount of cash aid known as the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) next year.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said this will be considered as a temporary assistance based on the additional government revenue from the escalating price of fuel.

He said the government acknowledges the pressure on headline inflation due to the escalation of fuel prices.

"In terms of global oil price, in 2008 the average was US$115 per barrel and that time BR1M never existed and our fuel price was RM2.30.

"But today it is at RM2.31 and government does notice this increase. Maybe if the increase is leading to higher government gains, the government can contribute to the society like adding an extra amount in BR1M, but the extra is not permanent," Johari told the Dewan Rakyat today when winding up the debate on 2018 Budget at the committee stage.

He said for every increase of US$1 in fuel price, the government's income increases by RM300 million.

"With our current budget of average fuel price of US$52 and the (estimation) that the average will reach to US$62 by end of 2018, which means a total of US$10 increase, multiply (that) by RM300 million, it would give us about RM3 billion of additional income," Johari explained.

He said for the last three to four years, Malaysia's core inflation had been 2.5% but the headline inflation is at 4%.

"This is because our past average global oil price was US$44 and now it's US$53, so that would definitely impact the weightage to our inflation," Johari said.

During the tabling of 2018 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak had announced that the government will continue giving out BR1M to 7 million recipients, with an allocation of RM6.8 billion.

He had said that BR1M for next year would be continued with a maximum payout of RM1,200.

something happen to me at KTM Butterworth

I tell u what happen just now. I was in the KTM Butterworth station, wanted to buy train ticket to KL travelling either tmr or Wed (long holiday), but there was no more ticket. Ok fine, i may drive to KL instead.

Then there was this quite MILF Chinese mother with a baby boy (maybe 3 yrs old) already brought a travel bag ready to travel, but not yet buy ticket. She cannot really speak bahasa, cause i saw her struggling at the ticket counter. Then she ask me to help translate to the counter, she needs a ticket to KL or near KL today. I ask the counter and counter say there is only one ticket left today , but she has 2 person. So she ask me to translate n say the boy can sit on the mother lap for the whole journey. The counter not allow. Then she ask me, since I also didn't manage to get ticket, she ask how I going back. Then I say maybe drive, then she was like dunno wat to do already.

Before I left, I heard the mother saying to the boy, with a very sad tone in chinese, (i translate to english here) "how now ? dad already gone back, and we dont have ticket, cannot go back to see daddy"

Actually do u think I should have offered her a ride to KL today? become unofficial grab car / uber. But that means that I have to go back KL today by car, which I was not ready.

Sibu: Pintu pagar Balai Polis Lanang di Sarawak terpaksa ditutup menjelang waktu malam demi keselamatan anggota dan balai berkenaan.

“Bagaimanapun, masih ada anggota yang bertugas di dalam balai dan jika ada orang mahu membuat aduan, mereka barulah buka pintu,” kata Ketua Polis Daerah Sibu, ACP Saiful Bahari Abdullah yang dipetik See Hua Daily News, semalam.

Adun Bukit Assek, Irene Chang meminta polis meneliti aduan orang awam yang Balai Polis Lanang tidak dibuka 24 jam sehari, selepas seorang orang awam tidak dapat membuat laporan polis berkaitan kecurian motosikalnya pada jam 5.30 pagi, baru-baru ini, kerana balai itu dianggap tutup berdasarkan keadaannya yang gelap dan hanya lampu di pintu pagar bernyala.

Disebabkan itu, Irene berkata, pengadu tidak berani masuk ke dalam balai berkenaan, sebaliknya pergi ke Balai Polis Central di pusat bandar untuk membuat laporan.

Saiful Bahari berkata, sebelum ini ada pemandu kereta mabuk melanggar pintu pagar balai polis itu dan penjenayah yang berdiri di luar pintu pagar melontar batu ke arah balai polis.

Selain itu, ada juga individu yang membaling mercun ke kawasan lapang balai berkenaan.

Beliau berkata, bangunan menempatkan Balai Polis Lanang adalah kediaman pegawai di dalam kem Pasukan Gerakan Am (PGA).

“Bangunan itu sudah berusia 40 tahun, pencahayaan lampu di bangunan lama juga tidak terang, ditambah lampu jalan yang tidak mencukupi menyebabkan keadaan gelap (di balai),” katanya.

Beliau berkata, Balai Polis Lanang dibuka pada 2004 bagi memudahkan penduduk Lanang dan kawasan sekitar.

JOHOR BARU: New Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT) president Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim has urged fans to remain loyal to the team regardless of the results.

Tunku Tun Aminah, the sister of JDT owner Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, said in the past there are fans who would shy away from the team when it is not winning.

"That is not the way it should be. We should always support and be loyal to the team whether it is winning not. I do not want to see a full stadium only when the team is winning but empty when it is not winning," said Tunku Tun Aminah.

She was speaking at a press conference to introduce her as the new JDT president. Also present were honorary secretary of the Johor Football Association Mohd Fahmy Yahya and JDT sporting director Alistair Edwards.

Tunku Tun Aminah said she was surprised when Tunku Ismail told her that she would be the new JDT president.

"I am also honoured that my brother has entrusted me with this responsibility. I am also thankful that Tunku Ismail has given me his support and taught me a lot about how to run a football club," said Tunku Tun Aminah.

She said as the president of JDT, she would be focusing more on the development of youth football and the JDT academy.

"I also want to use my position to attract more youths to live a more active lifestyle and get involved in sports, whether football, rugby or hockey. Most youths today are more interested in their smartphones and gadgets," she said.

PASANGAN remaja yang disoal siasat penguat kuasa PAID Hulu Langat dalam operasi dijalankan di sebuah hotel bajet di Jalan Raja Harun, Kajang.

Kajang: “Betul, saya tidak sentuh dia… Jika tak percaya boleh bawa dia (teman wanitanya) lakukan pemeriksaan di hospital.

Saya baru masuk sekejap untuk solat. Memang tak buat apa-apa,” dakwa berulangkali seorang remaja lelaki sejurus ditahan kerana disyaki berkhalwat bersama teman wanitanya.

Dalam kejadian jam 1.45 pagi semalam, pasangan remaja berusia 18 tahun itu ditahan penguat kuasa Pejabat Agama Daerah (PAID) Hulu Langat selepas didapati tinggal berdua-duaan di dalam bilik hotel bajet di Jalan Raja Harun, di sini.

Sumber berkata, pintu bilik diinap pasangan remaja itu terpaksa dibuka menggunakan kunci pendua selepas mereka enggan membuka pintu apabila diketuk berulang kali.

“Sebaik dibuka, remaja lelaki itu didapati memakai baju dalam keadaan terbalik dan duduk di atas katil bersama seorang remaja perempuan.

“Remaja lelaki itu memberi alasan menyewa bilik hotel berkenaan selepas usaha menghantar pulang teman wanitanya ke rumah ibu saudara di Hulu Langat gagal,” katanya.

Rapid KL to introduce discounts

KUALA LUMPUR: Even before the specifics are out, Klang Valley commuters are welcoming Rapid KL’s move to introduce discounted LRT and monorail services for those willing to start their rides no later than 6.59am.

The move, which takes effect from Sept 16, was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Wednesday.

Hotel worker R. Vally said it was good for her because she sometimes had shifts that require her to commute from as early as 6.30am.

Even those who do not regularly take the train at that hour feel good about the move.

“I’m not sure about the reason for the discount but I hope it will reduce the morning congestion at stations and on the trains,” said student Gloria Ngu.

Rapid KL is not saying much for now.

“Please wait for the detailed announcement,” said a spokesman.

But Rapid KL hinted that senior citizens and students, who are already enjoying concessionary fares, will not enjoy further discounts.

Daily ridership for the LRT/monorail system shot up by more than 51,000 commuters daily (12%) since the Kelana Jaya LRT line was connected to the Sri Petaling line at Putra Heights on June 30.

Even the oft-maligned Sunway Bus Rapid Transit system is seeing a spillover, with its monthly ridership increasing from 118,883 in January to 148,358 in July, up by 25%.

A check by The Star at the Lembah Subang station (on the Kelana Jaya line) on Friday showed that most trains headed towards the city were nearly empty by 8.20am, demonstrating the severe imbalance between peak and non-peak periods.

By introducing discounts, Rapid KL is doing what other rail service operators have done before.

Singapore introduced free and discounted rides in June 2013, where commuters who end their journey before 7.45am on weekdays at 18 designated stations in the city would travel for free, while commuters who exit between 7.45am and 8am get 50 cents (RM1.50) off.

While the republic stopped this practice in June, it noted that at least 7% of peak hour travellers shifted their travel times away from the 8am to 9am slot during the trial period.

The commuter bottleneck in Klang Valley is partly caused by insufficient trainsets, with Rapid KL still awaiting the delivery.

Delivery of new four-car monorail sets is also delayed, with no clear resolution on the horizon following parent company Prasarana Malaysia’s legal dispute with the supplier.

On top of this, re-signalling work on the Ampang LRT line will only be completed by December.

KTM Bhd (KTMB) and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd have both reviewed their fare structures for the first time in more than 12 years, citing economic reasons and efforts to provide a more consistent fare structure. Komuter lines from Tanjung Malim to Sungai Gadut and Batu Caves to Port Klang will see an increase of a minimum RM0.04 per kilometer and maximum RM7.10 per trip. "The new fare structure is effective Dec 2 and is necessary considering the increasing operating and maintenance costs annually." "The purchase of spare parts has become increasingly expensive with the drop of the ringgit, not to mention KTMB had also been subject to commercial rates of the electricity tariff over the years," said KTMB president Lt Col (Rtd) Sarbini Tijan at KL Sentral here today. Sarbini added that along with the new fare structure, there will also be the introduction of a 50 percent discount for students. Meanwhile, LRT and monorail services which would be subject to a new fare structure include the LRT Ampang line, the LRT Kelana Jaya line and the Kuala Lumpur monorail line. "The fare structure has not been adjusted upwards since 2002 in spite of continual increase of goods and services," said Prasarana president and group CEO Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz today. He said the new fare structure would be based on distance travelled for all three lines as opposed to the current different structures between stations in all three lines. The current structure is based on different rates between stations in the central business districts and non-central business districts for the Kelana Jaya line. For the Ampang line, fares are based on the number of stations travelled while the KL monorail line is based on distance travelled. 2016 Proton Preve turbo

since the recent launch of the new proton persona, proton CEO also announced that they will sell Preve at a turbo-only version . Just want to know if there will be any improvement on this car for the 2016 model? ie will it have all the suprima S improvements on this new 2016 Preve? will there be any facelift ? improvements of the punch CVT ?

or it is just an old stock clearance action taken by proton . or proton are forcing ppl to take the "more expensive" version of the Preve

Single mother of five marries 18-year-old boy

PETALING JAYA: It’s not everyday that a man chooses to marry a woman twice his age and receives the blessings of his family.

But that is exactly what happened in the town of Kuala Penyu in Sabah, when 18-year-old Mohd Sufie Alin wedded single mother of five, Dayang Sopiah Gusti, 42.

A picture of Mohd Sufie putting a gold ring on Dayang Sopiah’s finger during the solemnisation ceremony went viral on Facebook on Friday, garnering plenty of mixed reactions from netizens.

However, the groom is at least be assured in the belief that his family approves of the unusual relationship.

“They are mature enough to make their own decisions, including getting married,” his father Alin @ Matalin Utam, 52, told Harian Metro.

According to the father, the two got married in a small ceremony at the Beaufort district mosque on Tuesday, attended by families from both sides.

“What is important is that Sufie did not disturb someone else’s wife and they wish to continue their relationship the Islamic way.

“Therefore, I have no problem and consider Sopiah to be the soulmate of Sufie, which has been decided by God,” he told the Malay daily.

Though surprised to hear about his son’s choice just days before the wedding, Alin said age was no barrier.
“I was able to advise Sufie to be a responsible husband as he does not only need to care for his wife but also his five stepsons,” he added.

Indonesia’s hotspots double overnight

Jakarta: Satellites have detected 17 hotspots from forest and land fires in Indonesia’s Riau province, more than double the number overnight, as strong winds send acrid smoke north-east towards Singapore.

The National Space and Aviation Agency of Indonesia satellites detected only seven hot spots in the province the day before, Indonesia’s disaster management agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.

The fire-control task force on the field, however, reported 67 hot spots, with 44 concentrated in the Rokan Hilir district, he said, adding: “Dense smoke was billowing from the hot spots.”

Separately, Sutopo said that dry conditions, sporadic rains, and common incidents of illegal land clearing by burning in the past week were causing the spike in the number of hotspots.

“The wind is carrying the smoke from forest and land fires in Riau north-east to Singapore.

“The concentration of smoke observed is still quite thin,” he added. — The Straits Times/Asia News Network

KUALA LUMPUR – Aktivis hak asasi manusia, Marina Mahathir hari ini menyifatkan tindakan polis menahan penyanyi kontroversi, Namewee sebagai melampau dan mungkin didorong oleh keperluan untuk memuaskan hati umat Islam yang tersinggung dengan tindakan artis tersebut.

Marina yang merupakan anak perempuan kepada bekas Perdana Menteri, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad tampil mempertahankan penyanyi berkenaan dan beberapa individu lain yang ditahan atas dakwaan menghina Islam dengan aksi mereka menyanyi rap dan menari dalam sebuah masjid di Pulau Pinang tersebar melalui sebuah video klip baru-baru ini.

“Kita tidak boleh terus tunduk kepada orang-orang yang menghabiskan sebahagian besar masa mereka yang tersinggung. Saya rasa agak tersinggung bila mereka tersinggung,” ujarnya kepada satu media tempatan.

Mengulas lanjut, Marina berpendapat tindakan menangkap Namewee adalah keterlaluan dan pihak polis sepatutnya tidak mengambil tindakan sedemikian.

“Ia tidak sepatutnya diperlakukan begitu. Pihak berkuasa perlu melihat video dengan betul dan mengetahui apa yang undang-undang yang diingkari.

“Hanya kerana orang (umat Islam) yang tersinggung, ia tidak bermakna bahawa ia adalah satu jenayah,” katanya lagi.

Marina sebelum ini pernah mengundang kontroversi apabila mempertahankan penggunaan kalimah Allah oleh gereja Kristian selain turut mengecam tindakan Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) merampas kitab Bible berbahasa Melayu yang mempunyai kalimah Allah.
