SIBU (Oct 26): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ought to tone down his rhetoric and consider the feelings of his non-Muslim supporters when voicing support for the Palestinian people, said Andrew Bugie.

The Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) Information chief said Anwar has been “very vocal” in his support for the Palestinian people in the ongoing conflict with Israel.

“While it is commendable for our PM to be very vocal of his support for Palestine, at the same time he must also consider the feelings of Christians who comprise the Chinese, Indian and Dayak, as well as the many other races and religions in Malaysia.

“As Christians, it is natural that our sympathy lies with Israel, as our religion, according to our Bible – the foundation upon which our faith is built – tells us so,” he said in a statement.

Adding on, Andrew said Malaysians of all races and religions had worked hard in getting Anwar elected as the 10th Prime Minister.

“Please do not make us abandon our support for you.”

He also called on Anwar to follow the “good example” of Indonesian President Joko Widodo who leads the largest Muslim country in the world.

“So far, President Jokowi has been very sparing in his comments on the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel,” said Andrew.
