Adding Storage and Installing Windows To New Stora

My motherboard is a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 5. Currently I have 2 HDD on SATA connections (1 SSD Samsung Evo 860-250GB + 1 Western Digital HDD-1TB)

The computer is boot up from the SSD and space is running low. I would like to add storage and either move the current files to the new storage or boot the computer from the new storage (M.2).

I think I still have 3 M.2 available on the motherboard and from the specs i read, the speed can be up to 3551 MB/s ? Gen3

My question is, I should looked at buying a M.2 from Gen3 right? If I slot in the M.2, how can I re-install to the new M.2? The window is bind to the motherboard. What should I be considering when comparing M.2 for the additional storage?

Wire / Wireless Controller For Desktop

Dear All,

Can someone advise me what would be a value for money or good controller to use with a desktop computer? I've not been following the computer tech for sometime now and recently just bought a new desktop.

I'm planning to play some old arcade / emulator games using the computer and was hoping I can play some beat'em up games with my wife and sons.

Is this possible? If I buy like 2-3 controllers, then 3-4 person can play at the same time?

What would be a good brand and price to expect for 1? I'm actually thinking to use PS4 controller but don't want to overkill it if there's other option or more common controller people use nowadays.

Many many thanks in advance

Monitor Power Indicator Blinking

Dear All,

I hope I posted this at the correct section. My monitor power indicator is blinking abnormally longer last few days and today morning I've confirmed that it is not a one-off issue. After shutting off the monitor via the main power supply for few hours or at least 10 minutes, when switch on the monitor back, the power indicator will blink for at least 1-2 minutes before turning on normally.

Before this, i don't have to wait at all. After i turn it on, then it will immediately display the analog / digital message if i didn't turn on my PC yet... What is probably wrong with my LCD? I have a feeling its going kaput soon but I kindda love the LCD. So i need insights from everyone here. Anyone came across this issue and have any advice to verify what problem I may have with my LCD?

Monitor Info

Model : Samsung 932B Plus
Age : probably at least 3 years not more than 5 years.

I've already checked the power supply connection cable and also the VGA display connectors.

Thank you in advance.

Thermal Paste ?

Hi forumers,

Can someone enlighten me what seems to be the problem? I've applied new thermal paste on my HeatSink and temperature dropped to 59C in Aircon condition and 67C in normal room temp. Used to be around 77C ~ 80C.

My Chip = AMD Athlon 2800+ XP. I guess the temp pretty much normal.

Anyway, I've just applied the paste for about 3 weeks now, and the temperature seems to increase back. What's the problem?

I did removed & clean the heatsink and chip before applying the new coating.

Very confused now.. thinking of upgrading the heatsink and fan If problem still unsolved after this. Maybe add a case fan to make it more efficient for airflow and cooling?

HOT HOT HOT

[WTA] Graphic Card

Hi,

My current system

AMD Athlon 2800+ XP
512 MB RAM
MSI KM4M-V Motherboard
Standard Power Supply
Build-in Video Card

I'm thinking of getting an AGP card for the computer. Budget is around RM 100.

Should I get a new 128 MB 64 bit GC or 256 MB 128 bit GC [2nd hand]?
If I get the 256MB, is the card's performance limited by the average system I am currently having? Heard friends saying that no point getting 256 MB if the system is not an above average system. Kindly advise.

2nd Question,

When I double click on a file to open, it takes a few seconds to load and open the file. Is this a limitation by the ram? Last time it seems okay... Not sure if its window XP problem or RAM memory? Even a notepad file takes like 10 seconds to open...

MapleStory Recent Patch

Hi,

Any maplestory players here? I've got a problem with the music / sounds for maplestory. After the recent patch, this is what's happening to me. My build in sound is working fine using any other programmes other than maplestory.

When i load the game, the sounds like cracking and lagging. You can hear sound from maple game, but after a few minutes, the sound kills itself and total silence. Even after i quit the game, the sound won't come back. I'll need to restart.

Anyone else facing this problem? I'm considering to re-install the game now.

WD 250GB SE16 SATA2 HDD

QUOTE

Hi,

1. I've got this problem. Onboard supports SATA 1 and the HDD is sata 2. Enable SATA in CMOS. I did not touch any jumpers on HDD. HDD unformatted.

Motherboard : KM4M-V
Southbridge - VT8237 version 2.1 for SATA

There's a bios upgrade for Southbridge which will bring the version to 4.5 SATA. Do I need to upgrade the bios for it to detect this HDD?

It detects a HDD, then it will says Hardware initialize FAILED. PLEASE CHECK HARDWARE. BIOS WILL NOT BE INSTALLED. PRESS <G> to continue.

2. I've tried using the F6 to install SCSI / RAID DRIVER during normal boot from a WINDOW Boot CD. I've got the driver for this HDD. Everything goes well until it says SYSTEM IS STARTING WINDOW still under window setup "blue screen" and just idle there. CD-ROM not reading anymore data, no other blinking leds. Does this mean a problem with my installation disc?

[addedon]April 27, 2007, 1:52 pm[/addedon]From Western Digital SATA II FAQs:
quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second Generation Serial ATA hard drives are not detected when connected to a VIA Serial ATA controller. These controllers include the following chipsets:

VT8237/R, VT6420, VT6421L

Cause:

Our Second Generation Serial ATA hard drives use autospeed negotiation. This enables our Second Generation Serial ATA hard drives to automatically detect the motherboard data transfer rate, making it backward compatible with First Generation Serial ATA data transfer rates. However, because this technology is so new, some older motherboards are unable to support autospeed negotiation and cannot recognize the drive. This "drive not detected" condition occurs when a chipset is incapable of correctly negotiating the data transfer speed with a Second Generation Serial ATA hard drive.

Resolution:

To lock the drive at 150 MB/s data transfer rate, install a jumper shunt on pins OPT1, shown in the picture below.

If the OPT1 jumper setting does not resolve the issue, please contact Western Digital Support for further troubleshooting.

I've found this over the net after surfing here and there.. Will update here if this fixes the problem

Anyone knows how much is the part for this?

When I open my camera lense for K750i, it will not go into camera mode because a sensor place on the back of the phone is broken. Camera functioning well. Just that I need to go into camera mode from the menu.

Replacement price for this, quoted by the shop which I bought the phone is RM 45. Is this a reasonable price?

So now, when i open or close the camera lid, it will not do anything

Mine is running at +/- 2000 rpm and the CPU is overheating. Suspected a faulty fan. Its suppose to run at 4800 rpm is it? I'm still pretty new to this cooling stuffs.

Did some studies on CPU cooling fan, it seems the fan speed varies and not necessary the rpm is higher, its a better fan. Any advise on this?

Currently, the pc is offline due to MOBO cutting off power due to overheating. Will change the CPU fan soon.
