Edifier H280 Earbud Review

Edifier H280 Earbud review

Edifier is a well known brand to provide multimedia audio equipment to economic market with great price to performance ratio. Now it released a new earbud which is H280 featuring 6µm diaphragm and Neodymium magnet to reproduce good sound. I have little experience on earphone and headphone but I'd like to share out my experiences on using this earbud.

The packages just look clean and simple with easy to read wordings, but the features and specs on rear side is a bit hard to read might because of the font colour is slightly too light.

Inside the box,

Edifier did not forgotten a good key to get good sound quality...gold plated plug.

The earbud grill, in metal mesh...

The left and right earbud cable are different, left side is shorter whereas the right side are longer. So far I did not felt uncomfortable with it.

User experience
The earbud was easy to use, with bouncy tangle free cable like nowadays earphone. With 1.3m length, it is suitable for mobile use such as playing songs with phone or ipod on travelling, but too short for home like plugging to pc sound card. The earbud felt fragile to me but if use gently it will be okay.

There are three sizes of silicone pad to ensure it can fits to my ear perfectly. Ambient noise isolation was good, just like wearing earplugs and it does not feel uncomfortable after long listening session.

Sound Quality
The first impression of H280 sound is like typical Edifier new product, very dry and sizzling treble, not really tolerable. Under test I had found that optimal sounding requires about 36 hours of loud volume burn in.

Throughout my listening test, it presents all the important music details, while not colouring the sound, everything just good. When you are not satisfy with the sound, you will need to spend more for better one, an earbud that maybe doubles the H280 price or more. If the mid is too weak or treble is too strong, do consider replace the ear cap size and try again.

H280 sounds great on to all sources: phone, PC on board sound card or better audio sources. The driver sensitivity wise, which achieves moderate listening volume when used on my phone at max volume level. It can went up well to moderate loud volume but distorts badly on loud volume.

Again, I'm still amazed by this earbud for such a good sound at this price range, nothing I can expect more but if Edifier can do even better, yes please.

My rating I give it 10/10

What careful step required to achieve optimal sounding on H280?
- Loud volume run in for about 36 hours or more.
- Try out different ear cap size for the most balanced sounding.

What does H280 sound lack of when compared to expensive equipment sound.
- Lack of micro details.
- Lack of smoothness.
- Lack of music separation.
- Lack of emotional feel.

Specification
Frequency Response: 20Hz~20KHz
Impedance: 32 Ohm
Rated input power: 1mW
Sound Pressure Level (SPL): 100dB
Connector: 3.5mm stereo
Cable Length: 1.3m

Price: RM45@Here

Special thanks to Mr.Edifier, Inter-Asia and Edifier.

Edifier R2500 Review

Since I got this speaker and not much review out there so I decided to help out anyone who interested on this model.

Edifier R2500 is a 2.0 multimedia speaker with studio monitor soul in it. It is a near field monitor design with 5.75 inch woofer and 1 inch tweeter, and also the port is on the front so not a big worry to boomy bass when placed near to the wall.

On the volume control, the Edifier now implemented a digital volume control to this speaker. A digital volume control has advantage no channel imbalance from low to high volume that commonly occured on potentiometer. The buttons are a bit stiff to press but the active speaker weight are more than enough to keep it in position when you press the buttons. The volume control can be mute by setting to lowest volume, a soft 'pop' will happen to indicate it is muted.

Not to forget the multimedia features of this speaker, it has USB and SD card playback that supports MP3 and WMA formats. I found it can't play most music with chinese file name, other than that it works well. For the FM tuner feature, I'm impressed with receiver signal, it far better than my phone.

As for the auxilary input, there are total of 2 inputs you can plug in on the active speaker, it is mixed together with no changes in sound between the 2 inputs. There are RCA to RCA and 3.5mm to RCA cables included in the box.

On listening test, this speaker response is very good and flat. The mid gave me a slightly powerful, forward feel. The treble is smooth and soft type, it won't go loud on higher frequencies, and won't cause listening fatigue. As for bass you cannot expect powerful and deep bass from this speaker. The bass response isn't good for frequency below 50hz, it still present there but at lower amplitudes, most user might feel like lack of bass and need to add a sub for it. The mid bass region feels boxy, but doesn't spoil the overall.

All genre of musics are welcome for this speaker due to good and flat response, the details are very good for this price range, don't expect it to sound like Hi-Fi bookshelf speaker. But I'm trying to make it

There is few important step to take note when using this speaker. First is to REMEMBER the first time you turn on the power it goes to FM mode with very loud volume. When you turn on quickly switch to other quiet source by spamming the input button. Good thing is that this speaker will remember the last setting used when you turn off the power, but turn off under volume mute condition it will go to first step.

Second is you need to be patient to run in this speaker, I found it requires heavy and lengthy run in period to achieve optimal performance. In my case I took about 24 hours of moderate loud pink noise to run in, the first time you got the speaker sound very boxy and like a radio.

Third, to get the most performance from this speaker, please position it in equilateral triangle with measurement tool as a guide and also position the speaker that the height in between the tweeter and woofer is same as your ear level. For me I positioned it equilateral triangle but the speaker is not exactly facing 60º due to out of space.

Fourth, for further improve performance, use a better sound card other than on board and replace the interconnect to a better one. Isolate the speaker vibration from table using foam or spike to further reduce the boxy and boomy sound. Use mains filter such as Belkin Mastercube on source and speaker can have great improve on overall soundings.

Overall I give it 8/10.

Extras:
- I when got the speaker out from the box, I found a screw didn't screw in properly, the other were abit too loose. Edifier maybe need improve a little more on quality check.

- The port has grills can prevent cockroach go in, I wonder that would restrict too much of the air flow in the port or not.

- Has tested the woofer excursion, I found the port noise present and quite low but there are slight air leak from the control panel there, but I don't think that affect much under listening volume.

- Lubricate a little on the speaker grill clip after first time remove if found it too tight.

Specifications:
Total Power output: RMS 25W + 25W (THD+N=10%, f0=1Khz)
Signal to noise ratio: ≥85dBA
Distortion: ≤0.05%
Frequency response: 20Hz~20KHZ
Input sensitivity: 700±100mv
Input type: AUX/USB/SD/FM
Adjustment: Side control
Bass unit: 5¾ inch (148mm), magnetically shielded, 6Ω.
Treble unit: 1 inch (25mm) silk dome tweeter, magnetically shielded, 6Ω
Gross weight: Approx. 12.3kg
Dimensions(LxWxH): 24cm x 18.6cm x 31.6cm for both active and passive speaker.

Price I bought: RM375 @ July 2012

Vortexx Neo are absorbing the heat from graphic card Core and RAM and exhaust it to the back of casing, work like a system blower.

Theres no problem with the external screen and the phone functioning. I tried restart the phone by taking out the battery for a min and put it back. Unfortunately the problem still remain. Anyone got solution?

Now i'm pressing phone number blindly...
