i'm an ex-eng diploma student. i'm planning to take Bachelor in Finance or Bachelor in Mech Eng. however, i'm not very good with engineering calculation. because in engineering there is too much formula, integration, differentiation, etc2. i understand that these type of calculation is normal everywhere. what i want to know is how "hardcore" the calculation can be in any of these 2 degree.

Sorry to bother u guys again. I need your guys help regarding this matter.

1st of all. i've been looking around almost all IPTA/IPTS website for their course structure regarding their degree in Finance/business admin/investment. i'm looking for something that blends financial related calculation & analysis, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, investment, and accounting.

now don't get me wrong with my statement after this, what i'm looking for is the knowledge on how money works, how to control money, minimising loss, analysing market, business negotiation, basic business related calculation, types of investment and things like that. something that is for me to start business/entrepreneurship or to begin my own investment house. let me say what i really want.

What I really want is the KNOWLEDGE. the paper or certificate comes 2nd. as i'm not really gonna look for job. because i have enough of the ideas of people around me saying "aiyo. this course no future" , "u take this course and sure got job one lor". i'm just tired of all that. because i'm the type of people that believe whatever it is, it is always "PASSION" that creates the money. and my passion is money. so, i want to know how the money flow, how it works, etc2.

so, i really2 hope that you guys/gals able to help me out. in the meantime, i am also doing my 'homework' and i will share here if i found anything

so far, i've seen UTAR Bachelor in Finance. the course kinda suits my need. but it is written there NEW. anybody heard anything of it? there is also UiTM Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Finance.

the reason why most of it is finance because finance really show how the money works. however, i found out that sometimes finance courses also lack of subject which emphasize on business negotiating/ soft skills.

Definition Of Marine Engineering

Marine engineers are the members of a ship's crew that operate and maintain the propulsion and other systems on board the vessel. Marine Engineering staff also deal with the "Hotel" facilities on board, notably the sewage, lighting, air conditioning and water systems. They deal with bulk fuel transfers, and require training in firefighting and first aid, as well as in dealing with the ship's boats and other nautical tasks- especially with cargo loading/discharging gear and safety systems, though the specific cargo discharge function remains the responsibility of deck officers and deck workers.

Sometimes, they are involved in the design and construction of these complicated systems. New design is mostly included within the naval architecture or ship design. The field is closely related to mechanical engineering, although the modern engineer requires knowledge (and hands on experience) with electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, chemistry, control engineering, naval architecture, process engineering, gas turbines and even nuclear technology on certain military vessels.

Definiton of Nautical Studies

As of Nautical Studies, you will usually work as person in charge of navigation, cargo loading & discharging, deck maintenance. And lots more.

If you notice from the rank chart, Chief Engineer is actually the same rank level as of captain. Just that, Captain is the commanding officer in charge of all ship activities. He is head of department for Deck. Chief Engineer on the other hand is the head of department for Engine. Their rank are on the same level so do their payment, but captain commands exceed chief engineer in some matter.

as per the title. wagyu/kobe cow produce high quality meat that is highly priced in the market. the original kobe beef from japan will cost about usd500 per kg. while outside beef can cost up to usd200 per kg. so let's discuss about it here.

Seafaring Career...

Just want to make survey on how is the exposure of this career to malaysian people.

let me give a short brief about this career.

Onboard ship, we are separated into few department. here is the diagram about organization inside ship. credit to dukerobin for diagram.

this is a very rewarding career. almost the same as oil n gas industry.

the payscale is like this. this is not malaysian company. for malaysian company, the 4th engineer should be around usd2200. salary is tax free. meal provided. no need transportation. tax-free cigarette onboard.

Hello everybody!

Since my last topic was closed because i mistakely make it look like an advertisement, so, I decided to open a new topic regarding career as a seafarer.

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm a student in Akademi Laut Malaysia(ALAM). I took diploma in marine engineering. The purpose i want to encourage more Malaysian into this industry is because we are currently lack of seafarer. Imagine, out of 6000 seafarers in malaysia, only 1000 are malaysians. The rest are foreigner.

First of all, what is seafarer?

-Seafarer is a person who carries various duties onboard ships. They will sail with the ship in order to transport goods that the customer want us to deliver.

-Btw, I'm just a student. And I only familiar with Marine Engineering and Nautical Course. Diploma of course. But if you have any doubts about this career. You can ask here. I'll try my best to answer it.

Where can I study the courses?

Right now, in Malaysia, there are three institutions of higher learning that provide sea-going course. Bare in mind that not all maritime related courses can ensure you to go sailing thus ensuring you to get the big bucks.

For example, in UMT, there are course called Degree in Nautical Studies & Maritime Management. They cannot sail as an officer unless they go for the cadetship practical onboard a ship.

Thats all, now I'll proceed into the institution part. There are few places to studies to prepare oneself to become sea-going officer/engineer.

1) Akademi Laut Malaysia(ALAM)
-Diploma in Marine Engineering(DNS)
-Diploma in Nautical Studies(DME)
-Marine Engineering Bridging Program(MEBP)*

2)Politeknik Ungku Omar
-Diploma in Marine Engineering

3)Sarawak Maritime Academy
-not sure about this. since they're just open this year

*for the Marine Engineering Bridging Program, the program just started this year. The cadets sponsored for this course are engineering related degree graduates. They are sponsored by MISC. If you miss the chance to apply during post-spm, but still want to pursue career onboard ship. You can apply this course. Btw, I'm not sure how to apply for it. But you can ask here and I can ask the bridging student about it.

*NOWADAYS, THERE ARE ALSO COMPANY SEEKING FOR MECHANICAL/MARINE ENGINEERING DEGREE GRADUATE TO DO THEIR CADETSHIP FOR 6 MONTH ONBOARD THEIR SHIP. AFTER COLLECTING SEATIME, THEY CAN TAKE THE ORAL TEST FROM MARDEP FOR CLASS 4 COC. I'LL TRY TO GET MORE INFO ABOUT THIS.

Benefits of becoming a SEAFARER

1) Rewarding career. Cheapest pay is around rm7500 for fresh graduates of diploma. Imagine that. In my place of study, there were also company headhunting by offering salary of USD4800.

2) Experience gained make it easier for you to apply job on oil platform since you have an offshore working experience.

3) can save a lot of money. onboard ship, no need car. no need to pay rental for accommodation. free meal(every week can eat western). no need money to go to gym. onboard ship, gym is provided. got tv, some ship have internet facilities. some got pool/snooker table.

the prob is.

the software that come with the webcam can only capture video.

is there any other software out there that can make my webcam snap photos?

thanks. i've been searching around google. but, have some prob since i'm not expert in this thingy.

just that, if i try to sit in the front row, my friend will mock me "wooo, baik siot duduk depan". i'll just ignore it. then, not only in lecture, but also outside of class. they also start to befriend me. coz they think i'm not cool(also known as geek, nerd). how to overcome the problem? bcoz, it happen during my old day in school. when i sit in the front, they'll call me good boys and always want to avoid me. that make me feel sad and make turning me slowly to be like them. i need some help from u guys.

btw, i want to tell another story. during the orientation, i've met a 11A chinese boy. i start to talk to him. we introduce ourself. then begin chatting. haha. it was fun. at first, i thought he might not want ti be my friend because i got only 5A for my spm. i was wrong. he was very friendly indeed.

then, the next time i came to his room, i smell a strong cigarrete smell. i ask him. whether he smoke. he said, he don't smoke. just that his next bed friend is smoking in the room. i feel pity to my friend. because, he do not come from rich famly. and i can see he drinking a lot of water. maybe to overcome the hunger. but, he was always coughing. because of his roomate that smoke in the room.

i ask him. why don't you report to the felo(warden). he said, he scared. yeah. chinese student make a small comunity in the matric. he afraid that all the friends of the smokers will beat him up. that is why he kept the story. if his friends want to smoke, it's not wrong. just that. his roomate is smoking in the room. this will cause health prob. and mybe influenced the good student. please help me give some suggestion.

btw, in my matric, chinese made only about 40 people, indians 8 people(4 boys, 4 gurls) out of 2500 student. me malay btw. haha. but i also have good malay friends and already make friends with some chinese student. not yet with indian because it is very2 hard to meet them.

wanna ask some question.

I got offer for diploma sains aktuari in UiTM shah alam.

should i reject the offer and go for matric?

need your guys opinion.

I got A2 in mod math spm, and C5 for spm addmath. dunno why they select me into this course.

i know that this course involve lots of mathematics.

should I reject the offer and go for matric, or should I take this course. I am little bit interested to go into actuaries, but, after getting my spm result, i knew that i'm not very good in maths.

after that, i'm thinking of going into architecture or engineering.

should i reject the offer and go for matric? i ask this because, after getting my result, and thinking deeply, i want to go to matric. but, many people said that "rugi r tolak offer aktuari, bukan snang dpt". that make me think twice...

any opinion is highly appreciated.
