KUANTAN, 5th – Kuantan City Councilor Nik Mohd Ridzuan recently received complaints regarding Rohingya individuals harassing and begging from the public within the Indera Mahkota Lotus’s hypermarket area, causing concern among local merchants and consumers.

According to Nik Mohd Ridzuan, the hypermarket’s manager, Dines, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the behavior. He noted that individuals frequently enter the mall premises to solicit donations and have allegedly gone so far as to harass customers for money.

Unsanitary Behavior and Financial Impact
"According to the complaints, they do not just beg; some customers reported being actively harassed," Ridzuan stated on his Facebook page. "Some individuals have even approached customers' tables and taken food without permission."

He pointed out that this behavior has caused major inconvenience to patrons and severely damaged the mall's image. Furthermore, because customers complained about their food being touched by strangers, the hypermarket has had to bear the costs of compensating disappointed diners.

A Long-Standing Community Issue
Ridzuan posted on social media yesterday that this issue is not isolated to the Indera Mahkota area. Similar incidents have been reported in other neighborhoods with high Rohingya populations, turning it into a long-standing community livelihood issue. Photos and accounts of Rohingya children begging from shoppers inside malls are frequently shared by local residents.

Calls for Government Regulation
The councilor emphasized that differences in living cultures and habits have made some local residents uncomfortable, sparking widespread concern and discussion at the community level.

“We sympathize with their situation as refugees," Ridzuan concluded. "But at the same time, we must also take into account the economic pressures faced by local citizens, as well as the competition and challenges they face in making a living. Hard to find someone to officially admit STPM Science Stream is only Malaysian Chineses who actually supporting the STPM system.

Rohingya refugee riding an unlicensed motorcycle caused a fatal accident, resulting in the driver seeking compensation.

Selangor defends guidelines for new houses of worship

The Selangor government said the new guidelines on houses of worship will not affect existing centres.
PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government has defended new planning guidelines that bar non-Islamic houses of worship from being built in commercial areas.
A spokesman from the menteri besar’s office said the guidelines were based on feedback received by local councils from residents living near commercial areas.

The new rules are to allow for better movement of traffic and parking facilities, as commercial areas have limited space and may not be able to cater to the needs of religious communities, the spokesman told FMT.

The spokesman also said the rules apply only to new developments and will not affect houses of worship already operating in commercial or other premises.

“Moving forward, each new area, which is developed for residential purposes, will have a gazetted land for both Muslim and non-Muslim houses of worship.”

The clarification comes after Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung raised concerns over the recently published Selangor State Planning Guidelines and Standards for Community Facilities, which were approved at a state exco meeting on Nov 12 last year.

The guidelines are administered by PLANMalaysia Selangor, the state’s town and country planning department.

Paragraphs 6 and 7 of the section governing non-Islamic places of worship state that such facilities may not be placed in commercial zones and that existing buildings cannot be converted.

Lee said the restrictions could affect many religious groups in Selangor as many currently use commercial or industrial buildings due to a lack of approved land.

“Rather than intensifying efforts to address the long-standing shortage of land for non-Islamic houses of worship, why introduce restrictions on arrangements that have largely not posed problems?” he said in a Facebook post.

PUTRAJAYA: The government has agreed on several matters concerning entry pathways for students outside the national education system to pursue studies at public higher learning institutions.
In a statement, the higher education ministry said the Cabinet agreement involves the entry of students from tahfiz schools, private schools and Chinese independent secondary schools into public universities.

Candidates from these streams who also possess a full Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) qualification may apply for any programme through the UPUOnline system.

This is subject to the general and specific programme requirements set by universities through a merit-based selection process.

Candidates who do not have a full SPM certificate but sit for Bahasa Melayu and History subjects conducted by the Malaysian Examination Board may be considered for certain programmes at public universities.

These programmes have been identified based on the suitability of the field of study and current needs.

For candidates from tahfiz institutions, the identified programmes are: diploma and bachelor’s degree in dakwah; diploma and bachelor’s degree in Al-Quran and As-Sunnah; bachelor’s degree in tahfiz education; and bachelor’s degree in Islamic studies (dakwah).

For Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) graduates, the identified programmes are: bachelor of arts in Chinese language studies with honours; bachelor’s degree in Chinese language and linguistics; bachelor of arts in Chinese studies; and bachelor’s degree in Chinese language with education.

“All applications will be processed based on the principles of meritocracy, academic qualification requirements and subject to the regulations and decisions of the university senate,” the ministry said.

It added that the approach is part of efforts to make access to higher education more inclusive without compromising academic standards and the quality of the national higher education system.

Accusation of radiation negligence at University College Malaya Hospital: Several radiology staff members diagnosed with cancer

"To date, three employees have been diagnosed with lung cancer, leukemia, and breast cancer, and four others have been diagnosed with thyroid disease."

She revealed that all the affected employees were from the radiology department on the 5th floor of the South Tower, and one of the breast cancer patients was forced to have a premature cesarean section so that she could undergo mastectomy and treatment as soon as possible.

"I filed a complaint about this matter with the Radiation and Medical Control Department (BKRP) under the Ministry of Health on August 31, 2025, and participated in an online meeting."

She said that initially the relevant authorities admitted to irregularities, but then denied the allegations.

"After the meeting, I received an email from the Radiation and Medical Control Department stating that the report showed all regular inspection results were within safe limits and the relevant indices were under control, with no violations found."

“I then requested a meeting with the radiation and medical control department to discuss the matter, but the department said there was no need for a meeting and closed the case directly, refusing to discuss it with me.”

Disorganized allocation of radiotherapy technicians for administering radiopharmaceuticals

Former X-ray technician at the Nuclear Medicine Unit of the University of Malaya Medical Centre, Fuzia Fuzia, revealed that she had questioned the chaotic job allocation within the unit, including being asked to perform work that originally belonged to a radiopharmacist, indicating that the department's responsibilities were not clearly defined.

Why would a radiation technician work as a radiation pharmacist?

She pointed out that according to the operational policies of nuclear medicine units, radiation technicians and radiopharmacists should have a clear division of labor, but the hospital only arranged for relevant professionals to be stationed there weeks after she raised the issue, indirectly reflecting a shortage of manpower.

She also explained the internal operating procedures of the medical unit by showing a video, pointing out that patients would receive radioactive drugs in the injection room and that the procedures would be carried out continuously in the same area.

"Staff will administer medication to patients, and after one patient is given the injection, they will call the next one, one after another."

She questioned how staff could be guaranteed to be free from radiation exposure when they re-enter the enclosed space after the injections have been completed.

“These types of radiation (such as gamma rays) can penetrate space. If you work there for a long time, your body will be affected, and you may eventually develop cancer.”

Cancer is associated with exposure to radiation-filled spaces.

Former X-ray technician at the Nuclear Medicine Unit of the University of Malaya Medical Centre, Fauzia, said she has confirmed with the Radiation and Medical Regulators that her cancer is indeed related to long-term exposure to radiation in medical spaces, which is known as the 'Stochastic Effect,' a cumulative effect over a long period.

In addition, her second video revealed that there were other patients in the area around the injection room who were not isolated from the patients who had already been injected with the medication, which could result in radiation exposure in the public environment.

“After patients are injected with the medication, they should actually be isolated, but they are allowed to leave their rooms and take the elevator down from the 5th floor. In doing so, they bring radiation into the public areas.”

"If 10 to 20 patients undergo scans and injections every day, what will the cumulative impact be over a week, a month, or even several years?"

She emphasized that she did not directly assert that her cancer was 100% caused by radiation, but she believed that there was a certain risk involved, so the authorities must formally investigate the matter.

PET-CT should be located in areas far from populated areas.

“I have also learned from various sources that the license obtained by the hospital was to be transferred from the East Tower (Menara Timur) to the South Tower, but according to regulations, it should be re-inspected and approved before it can operate. However, it now appears that they have not completed these procedures. I think they may not have a valid license.”

Lawyer: Radiation exposure is a controllable risk

Sabrina, manager of the law firm AIMEE & ZAIM ARIF, said that while radiation exposure risks in medical facilities are unavoidable, they are “manageable risks” and must be managed through strict safety procedures, continuous monitoring, and comprehensive medical tracing; otherwise, they will pose a potential threat to employees and patients.

In response, the Malaysian Higher Education Reform Organization questioned whether the University of Malaya Medical Centre had violated the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 and failed to properly fulfill its basic responsibilities such as radiation monitoring, equipment maintenance, staff training, and information disclosure, seriously threatening the safety of its staff and patients.

To this end, they put forward 10 main demands, including the establishment of an independent investigation agency with no conflict of interest with the hospital and the Ministry of Health, a comprehensive review of all radiation equipment, mandatory staff to be equipped with radiation dosimeters and to keep complete records, and the establishment of a more comprehensive radiation management and protection system.

If the hospital does not respond, a protest will be held on May 1st.

The Malaysian Higher Education Reform Organization is demanding that the authorities provide free medical care and financial compensation to the affected employees, take disciplinary or legal action against the management of the medical center, and also demand that the radiation protection officer publicly explain the details of the incident.

They also called for a formal meeting with the Radiation Protection Bureau of the Ministry of Health to allow all parties to discuss the relevant issues openly and ensure that the handling process is transparent and fair.

The organization emphasized that the incident involved a public safety crisis and called on the authorities to respond as soon as possible, while also arranging an open dialogue with relevant units of the Ministry of Health to ensure a transparent and fair investigation process.

“We hereby issue a stern warning to the authorities that if they do not provide a formal response to all the previously raised demands within 14 days, we will not hesitate to launch a large-scale protest in front of the University of Malaya Medical Centre on May 1.”

On 11 March, one of your bus driver hits my car. And here’s the part that should terrify every single person on the road — the bus driver himself claims that the brakes were faulty.
Faulty brakes. On a public bus. Operating on road, surrounded by motorcyclist, pedestrians, or even schoolchildren.
I was in a car, walked away with vehicle damage. But what if it wasn’t me? What if it was a motorcyclist? A pedestrian?

Are we supposed to just accept that RapidKL buses are rolling around with faulty brakes and hope for the best?

I filed a police report, sent email, called your hotline. I have been following up, again, and again, and again for over a month now.
And what did I get?
Copy-paste replies.
Not a single callback, not a single update, not a single person who could give me a straight answer.
“We have escalated the matter to the related department.”

“We have relayed the message to the relevant team.”
“We are currently seeking an update from the insurance team.”
Just an endless loop of corporate deflection while I am left to deal with the mess YOUR driver caused.
So let me save everyone some time and share what I’ve learned the hard way:
If you ever get hit by a RapidKL bus — even if it is 100% their fault, you cannot claim against their insurance. They are classified as public transport.

I consulted my own insurance agent at Honda, and was told point blank: you can only file an own damage claim under your own policy. That’s it.

So that’s exactly what I had to do. I fixed my car using my own insurance. I lost my NCD. I absorbed the cost. All because RapidKL’s driver hit me, and they couldn’t be bothered to even call me back and give me a proper answer for over a month.

To RapidKL: I am done chasing with you. Whether you reply or not no longer matters to me. But the public deserves to know two things — how you treat the people your buses hit, and that your buses are operating on the road with faulty brakes. This isn’t just about my car anymore. This is public safety issue.
To every driver, rider, and pedestrians on roads: If a RapidKL bus hits you, be prepared

Be prepared to file your own claim, lose your own NCD, pay your own way, and hear absolutely nothing from them. And apparently, be prepared for the possibility that the bus hits you has brakes that didn’t even work.
