PETALING JAYA: An Umno politician is claiming that he was not the person sending offers to Opposition MPs to join the government.

Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has denied that he was the man responsible, saying that someone had been masquerading as him.

“It is fake. The person uses my photo, acts as me, calling and messaging these MPs, even asking them out for tea.

“Someone is misusing (my photo). It is not my number. These people have all sorts of tricks up their sleeves. They are crooks,” he said on Saturday (Aug 7).

He added that he was being framed, after he showed support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Vibes reported that several Opposition MPs had claimed that they had received offers to join the government, with promises of rewards.

This follows the exit of two Umno ministers, who had resigned after party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi officially announced that the party will stand with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and not with the Perikatan government.

As of now, former energy and natural resources minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and former higher education minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad have resigned from their posts in the government.

Najib respond to Nazri

PETALING JAYA: Former Umno president Najib Razak, responding to a tirade by party colleague Nazri Aziz over the party’s stance on the Perikatan Nasional-led government, said the public should judge Nazri by his statements made after the previous general election.

Najib said that Nazri had declared in January that he had retracted support for the PN government and claimed that Muhyiddin Yassin had lost majority support.

However, last year, Nazri was reported to have said that he had never been supportive of PN and that he had “always been a supporter of Muafakat Nasional”, the alliance forged between Umno and PAS to which Bersatu was subsequently invited to join.

He said that in September 2018, Nazri had publicly backed PKR president Anwar Ibrahim who was then standing for election in Port Dickson, and had also said he would campaign for Anwar.

A year later, he reaffirmed his support for Anwar but also said he would remain in Umno.

Najib noted that Nazri had said in March 2019 that PAS and Umno should work together and had apologised for objecting to PAS previously.

The year before, Najib said, Nazri stated that he would rather Umno work with PKR and DAP instead of PAS.

“Read his past statements and judge Nazri for yourself,” Najib told FMT when asked to respond to a report in which Nazri had branded as liars several Umno MPs who he accused of having reneged on their promise to support PN.

Najib had previously questioned a claim that 40 Barisan Nasional MPs backed PN.

Nazri was quoted by The Vibes as saying: “Please send my message to Najib. The 40 MPs who met that day, we discussed and agreed that we don’t mind backing PN, even if we don’t support Muhyiddin.”

The portal quoted Nazri as using the words “you bloody liars” and referring to Najib as “that b******”, saying Najib had spoken at the meeting, as did Pontian MP Ahmad Maslan, who is Umno secretary-general.

“Now, he (Najib) turned around and is poking fun, saying only 31 MPs are backing PN. That’s because he lied,” Nazri was quoted as saying.

Former international trade and industry minister Rafidah Aziz said the infighting was to be expected, adding that Nazri’s strong language indicated he had taken a “scorched earth” approach.

“They are baring their true selves to the public, who should take note and remember. As the Malay proverb goes, ‘biar putih tulang, jangan putih mata’,” she told FMT.

Umno recently retracted support for the PN government and reiterated its call for Muhyiddin to step down after supposedly having lost the majority.

Muhyiddin however insists he still commands the support of the Dewan Rakyat.

Zahid: Harga katak RM 32 juta

Harga diri dan maruah Ahli Parlimen jadi taruhan dalam usaha mengumpul sokongan sekurang-kurangnya 111 Ahli Parlimen, menjelang undi percaya di Parlimen, pada September ini.
PETALING JAYA: Ahmad Zahid Hamidi secara sinis berkongsi harga “katak politik” dalam tempoh sebulan ini dijangka melambung kepada RM32 juta seekor.

Dalam kenyataan terbaharu di Facebook, Presiden Umno itu memuat naik poster tertera harga daging bagi harga sekilogram ayam, kambing dan lembu, termasuk harga seekor katak yang bernilai puluhan juta bagi “seekor”.

Tindakan Ahmad Zahid itu menandakan bermulanya perang psikologi antara Umno dan Ahli Parlimennya yang dikatakan berdegil enggan mematuhi keputusan Majlis Kerja Tertinggi (MKT) agar menarik sokongan terhadap Perdana Menteri Muhyiddin Yassin dan kerajaan Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Ahli Parlimen Bagan Datuk itu dilihat cuba memainkan sentimen harga diri dan maruah Ahli Parlimen terutama daripada Umno agar kembali mematuhi arahan parti dan tidak lagi berdolak dalih, sebelum usul undi percaya dibentangkan di Parlimen, September ini.

Katanya, bagi tempoh beberapa minggu ini, rakyat akan melihat sama ada tragedi “katak melompat” berulang sebagai mana melanda senario politik negara selepas Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-14 (PRU-14), pada 9 Mei 2018.

“Kena tahu sifat ‘katak” bukan saja-saja melompat. Sama ada cari habuan atau mahu menyelamatkan diri.

“Sebab itu kita minta usul undi percaya atau tidak percaya di Dewan Rakyat disegerakan, sebelum ada lagi yang terperangkap, terpedaya atau terpesona sanggup menjadi ‘katak’,” katanya.

Katanya, beliau turut mengingatkan rakyat sedang menilai jika ada wakil rakyat yang menjadi ‘katak’ seterusnya.

“Rakyat tahu apa perlu dilakukan ke atas ‘katak-katak’ ini apabila tiba PRU-15,” katanya.

Pada 3 Ogos lalu, Ahmad Zahid mengumumkan penarikan sokongan Ahli Parlimen Umno daripada kerajaan PN, yang menyaksikan Menteri Tenaga dan Sumber Asli Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, meletakkan jawatan.

Setakat ini, hanya Shamsul Anuar sahaja berani berbuat demikian sebagai mematuhi arahan partinya, manakala menteri dan timbalan menteri Umno lain, masih mengambil sikap tunggu dan lihat.

Selain itu, Umno Bahagian Kuala Kangsar, hari ini, memberi peringatan kepada Ahli Parlimen Kuala Kangsar Mastura Mohd Yazid, mengikuti arahan parti menarik sokongan daripada kerajaan PN segera.

Mastura adalah Timbalan Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri (Tugas-Tugas Khas), yang dikatakan antara Ahli Parlimen Umno mempunyai kecenderungan menyokong Muhyiddin dan PN.

PM: SOP relaxations for vaccinated in 2 days

PAGOH: The relaxation of the standard operating procedures (SOP) for those who are fully vaccinated will be announced within the next two days, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said it would be an announcement eagerly awaited by those who have been fully vaccinated.

“I too have completed my two doses but am still being restricted as we have yet to announce any easing of restrictions such as interstate or inter-district travel to allow people to see their loved ones.

“We will decide on that including other social aspects that people wanted such as allowing dine-in where families can have dinner together.

“Once the announcement has been made, restaurants or food outlets can make the necessary preparations,” he said when met after presenting aid and visiting a mobile community vaccination programme at Felda Batu 27 Lenga here on Thursday (Aug 5).

Muhyiddin added that besides travelling and dining-in, the easing of restrictions for those who have completed their doses would include allowing people to carry out sport activities.

“People can play tennis, badminton, golf or even go to the gym but this is still being considered by the National Security Council (NSC),” he said.

Muhyiddin however reminded that even with the relaxation, the public should always continue to be vigilant against Covid-19.

“The country is still yet to achieve herd immunity as some are not fully vaccinated,” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 1 Lee Chong Wei says he is not the man behind a sex video that has gone viral.

“It’s not me,” said Chong Wei on Tuesday (Feb 13).

Saying that he is not amused by it at all, Chong Wei intends lodge a police report to clear his name.

“My movie is coming up and this is some of the ways that people try to bring disrepute to my name,” said Chong Wei, who is married to Wong Mew Choo.

“I’ll lodge a police report. I want to clear my name and I want the police to get the culprit behind this.”

The Vietnamese woman suspected of helping to kill the North Korean leader's half-brother was a keen singer whose Facebook pages featured pouting portraits and pictures of parties.

Four days before Kim Jong-nam was killed at a Malaysian airport, she appears to have posted a picture of herself wearing a shirt emblazoned with the acronym ‘LOL’, similar to the one on the fleeing suspect caught on CCTV cameras.

Doan Thi Huong worked at an entertainment outlet, according to Malaysian police, who have arrested her over the murder of Kim Jong-nam.

On a rice farm in northern Vietnam, the family whose daughter's details match those from Malaysian police said it rarely knew where she was since she left home a decade ago aged 18.

The last post on a Facebook page in the name of “Ruby Ruby”, which family members confirmed to be one of Huong's accounts, is dated Feb 11 from Kampong Besut, Malaysia.

"I want to sleep more but by your side," the post reads above a picture of her, eyes closed and wrapped up in bed.

Malaysian police have said Huong and an Indonesian woman wiped a liquid, containing an as yet unidentified toxic substance, on Kim Jong-nam's face at KLIA2 budget air terminal on Feb 13.

The estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un died soon afterwards.

Huong was described by police as an "entertainment outlet employee", but they did not give details of where she had been employed or what her immigration status was.

Talent show

Among the links on another Facebook account, which the family also said featured pictures of Huong, was one to the page of the ‘Vietnam Idol’ talent show. This account was in the name “Bella Tron Tron Bella" - Chubby Bella. There were no posts after November.

A woman bearing a close resemblance to Huong sang on the show as contestant number 67816 on June 3, 2016.

Facial recognition tools give a match to the pictures released by Malaysian police of Huong in custody.

The contestant gave Nam Dinh as her home town - the same as Huong's according to passport details from the Malaysian police - but her name was given as Dinh Thi Khuyen.

She left the show in the first round.

A member of the ‘Vietnam Idol’ casting team declined to comment on the appearance and its spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment.

"Can I sing you a song tonight?" she wrote in a Facebook post on March 24 last year. "Reply the fastest and put your phone number in the comment. I will call and sing for you."

Family members mostly work the rice paddies around their home in Nam Dinh, in the Red River Delta south-east of Hanoi.

Huong only visited occasionally, they said, and she was vague about where she had been. She is now 28.

Her father, who fought for the North in the Vietnam War, lost part of his leg in the fighting. Vietnamese authorities had been in touch since the arrest, he said.

"They only say they will support Huong as she is Vietnamese, but did not tell me if she is really a suspect," he told Reuters.

"Even though I am her father I cannot control things that happened when she is out there. I cannot know," said Doan Van Thanh, 63, who works as a security guard in the local market.

Family members said they only found out she was abroad from the media. They had thought she was working in Hanoi.

So far, Vietnamese officials have only confirmed to media that investigations continue and they are in touch with Malaysia.

A South Korean police official said Huong visited the holiday destination of Jeju Island in November for four days and they were looking into what she may have been doing there, but declined to provide further details.

Of 65 friends on the "Ruby Ruby" Facebook page, 27 have Korean names. Fifty-six of the friends are men.

One status update on the first Facebook account was posted in the Korean language on March 23 last year, saying "I love you, I miss you", although it did not use words that would be expected for someone familiar with the language.

Most photographs in the accounts are of Huong attending parties, in hotel rooms or portraits. In many she blew kisses to the camera.

Cosmetics, clothing and fast food shops were among Huong's likes on Facebook. Her place of education was given as Harvard, although the family did not believe that was true.

On Jan 3, Huong posted a picture of a boarding pass from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur. Family members said Huong was last at home in Nam Dinh from Jan 25-29.

Huong also appears to feature in another online video. Posted last April, it is on the channel of a Vietnamese YouTuber who gets women to kiss him in the street.

The woman in that video matches the one in the latest police photo from Malaysia.

In the video, she is shown giggling before a kiss with the man on a park bench.

In the photo, she wears no makeup and stares uncertainly towards the camera.
