hi all, i need some input here regarding contract employment.

A 12 months contract employment with one of the clause stated
"You shall be entitled to 14 days annual leave per annum or part thereof to be taken as and when the Company's business permits"

Does that mean the employee is not entitled to any pro-rated annual leave during this 12 months of serving period?

Employment Contract and breach of contract

Hi forumers. I need advice on employment contract and suggestion on the best alternative I can choose.
So I've got a new job and signed an agreement with them. It is a normal agreement, no terms about breaching the agreement or so, just termination notice some sort of that. I haven't started working yet, will be officially joining them in October. But at the same time I've got another better offer and I really want to take it (pls don't ask why I was not patience, need to survive). Can I just tell the company I don't want to join them anymore? What trouble will I get into if the agreement does not indicate the consequences of breaching? If I join and quit I must give a two weeks notice during probation which is the best way I could think of now but it means I must quit the first week I join which is not so a nice thing to be done. Any advice?

Long holiday while serving notice period

Hi guys, I need some opinion,

I am in this company which we just moved to a new office and my seat was placed at somewhere totally no aircon or fan. Everyone else work under comfortable condition but I sweat like after workout every day. Requested for fan but the admin said nothing can be done.

So, I am leaving this company for sure. The problem is, if I resign now, I have to serve 1 month notice period but I will be overseas for a 2 weeks holiday in late april.
But if I resign only when I am back from holiday, I will have to suffer 1 month of sweating.
Anyone has experience in serving notice period and take leave at the same time? Is it allowed? For additional info, I am taking unpaid leave for this holiday so it means no offset

Thanks all.

Working in Hong Kong

Hi all,

Recently I got a job pre-offer from an international company based in HK. I never thought of going HK for work but was recommended by a manager from this company. Then I started to think about it.

I know very little about HK living and working culture so hopefully I can get some info from fellow forumers who have HK working experience. Major aspect include living cost in terms of rental/food, working culture. And of course, is it possible to save money? lets say $300k per annum.

Thanks in advance.

Career transition at mid 20

Hi guys, I need some advices on career transition. I think not many ever succeeded in changing from one industry to another industry but I still want to hear experience and opinion from those who achieved it.

I am a local uni graduate holding a degree in building. I have been working in construction industry as a quantity surveyor for 4 years and have a quite good salary.
But I always want to explore in retail mall marketing (not hard sale type, sth like brainstorming) so after I get my pr status in singapore, I decided to start looking for similar jobs.
20 resumes sent out with no reply. Those agents that replied always asked the same question "I have a qs position",some even offer 20% increment of salary.
My second choice is property management specifically in retail mall. I thought at least my first job experience has sth related to property but there is no response as well.
Is it really impossible to get a career transition with no relevant degree and job experience and at mid 20?
I have also stated my salary range which is $300 lower than my current salary.
Anyone has successfully change their industry? mind to share how you do it and how long u take etc?

Thanks for reading..
Job offers - dilemma

I am really in a dilemma now.
I have been working in my current company for 1.5 years, i thought of continuing to 2nd year but recently when my boss hired new staff, i have feeling that he is trying to pinpointing us old staff (New staff are pinoys and i am not saying they are cheap but lower salary and easier to control...). And now i have difficulty in working and getting document controllers to process my documents as they always said the priority is given to projects handled by these new guys.
So i have attended 2 interviews. Both japanese MNC, first one is considered big boss in construction and another one slightly smaller but still much bigger than my current local company.
I got both offers, not alot increment but i am ok with that.
First offer- based on site. Boring job but huge company
2nd offer- challenging. Might get sacked if cant perform. They will even reimburse to let me go immediately but that means slap my boss in the face as i know no one can take over my project at the moment.

Which sounds better? I would choose to stay but my work is in danger due to my colleagues and boss.
Any advice and critics are welcomed. I need to see all opinions to make decisions. Thanks.

hi guys, i have been working for 3 years but only have 1 year experience in my curreny position. I am now working in a local company with 'considered good' salary but no OT claim.
Last week a china MNC invited me to interview and i got offered but with 300 lower salary but can claim OT(sat) so actually i can earn same amount.
i am in construction and the mnc is a huge comp with 3 A1 grade while my company is only a small company doing small project. I am in dilemma dont know what should i do now. my basic will be a lot lowered but it is a golden chance to get into big construction mnc.
if u were me, would u stay or leave?
need opinion - what would you do

hi all. I am currently an executive with nearly 3 years experience in my industry. This june it will be 1 year since i joined my present company. Few months ago when some of our staffs resigned, apparently my boss was panic and he started to talk to young staff (me) like offering higher position and huge increment in salary. That was just his tactic which i despise of. but anyways as long as he kept his promise give me the increment i wont care.
Now almost a year, my workload is getting heavy and his promise is like fading away. No confirmation given like he said he would do in april.
What will you do if u are working for this kind of employer?
I am thinking of leaving because if i stay it is like encouraging such ignoble value and dishonest employer.

I was confirmed as permanenent staff last month and got raised $200 salary. Since my company is just a small type company, upon confirmation, they only issued me a confirmation letter without stating the salary raised. Yesterday i checked my salary and found that they still pay me the same amount as before.
I raised the question to our HR then she said have to check with my boss. Should I continue to bring up this issue? but they only verbally said will raise my salary. i dont have proof or witness.

hi guys, need help here. I am using mobile broadband with usb dongle, but it got a lot problem with my newly assembled pc. At first, the system can detect the dongle and install the device software and connected with no problem. But after a while, it started to lose connection. I tried to plug on different usb port, but it works only if i connected it through usb hub. If i connect it with usb port, the device software still runs, but it shows "connecting" then after several seconds it says connection not available or disconnected.
The dongle works perfect with my laptop but only this new pc it just wont connect. any advice?

usb modem connect to wireless modem

Is there any way/modem that can let me connect my usb modem to wireless modem? I am using mobile broadband and I want to share the line between my computers for basic surfing. Can i just buy a wireless modem and plug in my dongle? or is there any special device to do it?
