Just thought to create a thread for Civil Engineers, students, and those with a background and/or involved in Civil Engineering to gather.

A place to meet and chat, about work, life, or anything that revolves around civil engineering.

Hopefully, can share thoughts and information for all who are interested.

Malaysia-Thailand-Laos-China Overland.

Yo guys, I am planning for an overland trip to China (Kunming), Overland from Malaysia/Thailand.

So far, I've read that there's 2 way to do it.
1 is going into JingHong then to Kunming direct from ChiangRai via a express boat.
(Abt RM400 for the boat ride)
2 would be going via Laos.

Anyone done this before?
Can share details?

It looks like an interesting route to take.
Currently, don't know if can make it yet, but doing some planning 1st.

Tentative route would be

1. Taking bus to Butterworth
2. Take train to Bangkok
3. Take Bus/Train to Chiangmai
4. Take bus to Chiang Rai
5. Overland into Lao/China (destination Kunming).
6. Kunming-Guilin by train.
7. Guilin-Guangzhou-HK(train/bus)
8. HK-Macao (Ferry)
9. Macao-KL.

However, depending on time, might cut short the trip and fly back direct from Kunming.

Anyone ever do this? Care to share?
Also looking for travel partners.
Anyone interested?
Don't know if can make it yet but tentatively planning for mid-December.

Will be having some free time between mid-end December.
So, either will be going travelling or doing something else.
Hence, looking into the possibility of making this trip.
