Desire S just died. 2 days after FOTA update

Got this HTC Desire S from Maxis in June.

The 1st thing I notice is the time clock is pretty unreliable.
A monitoring app reported that the device would lag approximately 90 seconds EVERY SINGLE DAY.

So I tolerated with this nonsense and manually adjust my device clock each day like I'm paid do it.

Then 2 nights back (was it Wednesday or Tuesday) I got this FOTA update from HTC, which flawlessly upgrade my firmware to the latest version.

Lo & behold! My phone time lag problem is finally fixed... to the microsecond of accuracy.
I also notice a SIGNIFICANT performance improvement while flipping with the UI.

My guess: the firmware probably 'corrected' / overclocked the processor speed of this beast.

Then......... today while fiddling with some apps, it FREEZES.
Not responding to any screen interactions, I tried rebooting.

Worst case scenario occurred to me. IT CANNOT BOOT.
My baby just froze at the green HTC 'very quite, not so brilliant' screen.

Each. Effing. Time.

Pulled out the battery? Done that.

Tried hard reset? Done that. (it even freezes when selecting 'factory reset')

Contacted HTC support with the details.
The response: Send for repairs or ask telco for replacement. Duh...

Laptop disables memory to conserve energy?

Hi all,

Just bought a new Pavilion from the HP store in Lowyat Plaza
Also have it upgraded to Windows XP Pro (note: this strips off
the quickplay feature but thats not the main issue here ...)

While testing the machine, only 256MB RAM is shown
in the Systems Properties when it should've been 512MB
as advertised.

The technician/salesperson mentioned something about
the CPU disabling a portion of the memory to conserve
energy and that this 'missing' memory will be made
available automatically when needed. He also showed
me the BIOS which correctly shows 512MB RAM.

Can anyone confirm this? I cant find anything
on the net to confirm his explanation...

Rebooting modem helps!

Ok folks, recently I've suffered an intolerably slow & unstable internet. I initially thought its one of those temporary service interruption thing.

But after a month, my impatience got the best of me and I ended up messing up my modem setting. I can't connect to the network nor the 192.168.1.1 page to undo the changes I just did.

So I had to reboot the modem (press a pin in reset hole for 10 seconds)

Dunno if it was the modem all along, or the ISP 'problem' just happens to be resolved on the same day. If before this I got an average of 200kbps (international) 450kbps (local), I'm now enjoying up to 850kbps (both international & local)

Just want to share this, worth a try.
