Hi all,

I see that there's a very active discussion on Forex and that many Malaysians are into forex trading. But does any of you trade US Emini futures? I've posted a similar topic 2 years ago but haven't been on the lyn forum for sometime.

I'd be interested to know if anyone here trades futures or who are interested in trading futures. We can discuss strategies, brokers, etc.

Day Trading the US Emini Index Futures

Hi all,

I see that there's a very active discussion on Forex and that many Malaysians are into forex trading. But do/have any of you ever traded the US Emini futures market?

For those of you who are unfamiliar, emini futures contracts such as the mini S&P and Nasdaq are listed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and trades on the Globex electronic system. Each mini contract is 1/5 of the its standard "big" contract.
E.g mini S&P contract is 1/5 the size of the standard S&P futures index (kinda like mini Forex accounts). Each point of the mini S&P index will represent $50 and the minimum fluctuation ( tick size ) is 0.25 points which is equivalent to $12.50. Each point of the mini Nasdaq index will represent $20 and the minimum fluctuation ( tick size ) is 0.25 points which is equivalent to $5.

Globex opens from 16:30(EST) on weekdays and 18:00(EST) on Sundays and public holidays. The closing time is 16:15(EST) on all days. However, there will be a scheduled maintenance of Globex from 17:30 till 18:00 (Monday through Thursday, nightly). I know the timings can be quite complicated, however as day traders, The time span you have to concentrate on is really the cash market opening hours from 9:30 till 16:15 (EST).

Like forex, the captial you need is also quite low tho not as low as the super mini forex accounts. I have traded forex before and yes the forex market is very liquid, but with that liquidity comes a lack of structure. There is no central exchange for forex so there is a lot of monkey business that goes on with traders and brokers alike it wouldn't take too long to do a google search and see all the people that have complained about stops being pushed etc...

Personally I prefer trading emini futures. They are liquid, they are heavily regulated, you can open an account with a reasonably small amount of money.. you can finder faster/slower action and being futures of an index they are easy to track and understand.

Anyway this is just my opinion. I'd be interested to know if anyone of you have traded futures or who are interested in trading futures.
