Hi guys,

Need your advise.

My friend recently become a victim of snatch thief. She has lost her handbag which contains her wallet, and car key.

She is unable to locate the other key for her car since she recently just move to a new house. So she consider both kunci kereta sudah hilang la.

She called perodua and they told her to make a new key for her car will cost around rm2k to rm3k.

Is that true? If it is, why cost so much? is there any other option other than Perodua?

Can someone share experience?

Strange Motor(-ish) sound from MyVi Engine Bay

Hello fellow F&F LYN peeps,

I'm driving a 2010 MyVi (the older one), and recently theres a very audible sound that comes from the right side of the engine bay during a specific driving condition. This sound is like a whirring electric motor.

Here's a short recording of the noise in my car (i've marked where the noise comes with the ((-)) icon ).

This sound only occurs during braking on specific condition, but it can also make the sound at random time, but with certain condition.

At first, naturally I thought it is the brake caliper issue, as many MyVi have been plagues with such, my MyVi is also affected, but it has been rectified 6 months back and have never come back.

However, during further observation, I've found out that the noise doesn't come from the brakes on the wheels, rather, it is in the engine bay, specifically the left side of it.

Here's the condition that will trigger this sound:

1 - During light braking after a cold start, specifically after the car gets into 2nd gear. I noticed this quite consistently every morning when I'm getting to work, once I touched the brake, the whirring will continue, even after I let go of the brake. The whirring will stop a few more brakes later.

2 - During cruising, especially on downhill descent, when I let go of the accelerator, it will make some "pfft pfft" noise (from the same region), and followed by the whrrrrrrrr sound. This sound will continue until I press the brake and release the brake.

3 - On random times, especially when I'm cornering at 60-80km/h (at flyovers) and the car is somewhat tipped slightly to the right, this sound will start again (the whrrrrrrrr sound), until I, again, start to brake and release the brake. Very apparent when I approach toll gates, the whrrrr will start at the exit cloverleaf and only stops after I brake and then release the brake at the toll booth.

This whrrrr sound can also continue even when the car is stationary.

I've tried bringing the car to my mechanic to have it checked, but for some odd reason the car doesn't make the sound when he's trying to diagnose it. We even sit in the car and drive around and no sound. (car playing tricks on me?).

This sound is very audible from the outside, from the left side.

When I open the engine bay, and look at the area where the sound comes from, it noticed the only thing I can see with something that might be an electric motor is the ABS control unit.

Does anyone have experienced such? What could be the remedy? I hope I don't have to change the ABS unit as it will probably cost me one of my arms.
