Laptop LCD screen dim

Hi sifus,

As technology progress, so do our LCD. My laptop is a Lenovo G430 year 2008. Satisfy and perform up to my requirement until today. However, the screen is getting dimmer and yellowish. I'm not sure if it is that same brightness but can we actually "upgrade" LCD screen with a better brightness and less yellowish screen?

Is that even possible?

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is doing an exceptional job organising the search-and-rescue (SAR) effort to find the missing Malaysia Airline (MAS) aircraft, says the United States Navy Seventh Fleet.

Its spokesperson Commander William Marks, in a recent interview with Sinosphere, the China blog of the New York Times, praised the Malaysian Government for a “well-organised” plan in coordinating the SAR effort.

“They coordinate both the water-space and the airspace management. It’s like a big chessboard out there. It’s really like moving chess pieces around. You have three dimensions, you have the water-space and the airspace.

“If you don’t do a good job of it, there is a very real possibility of an accident. They track all these assets coming in from all these countries, make assignments and they’re very efficient, very professional,” Marks pointed out.

Two US Navy guided-missile destroyers, the Pickney and Kidd, are among dozens of ships searching for the MAS plane.

Marks said the SAR effort was a very difficult and challenging puzzle as the search box that started closer to Vietnam got bigger with each hour that passed, particularly with the latest report that claimed the plane might have turned around.

“So we are now looking at this area in the northern part of the Straits of Malacca, in case it turned around. This is a very large area. We are talking hundreds of square kilometres. The good news is, it’s an international effort – there are a lot of assets down there,” he added.

“Malaysia is in the lead. They’re the lead organisation and doing a terrific job.’’

On how much longer the search could last, Marks said the first 72 hours was considered a search mission for survivors.

“After that, it’s the decision of the Malaysian Government what they want us to do, and where they want us to be,” he said.

Why would someone use pc to receive call since can just pick up call from phone... Hehehe

KUALA LUMPUR: Three policemen were among six people detained by the police over the shooting of a college student at Taman Seri Rampai, Setapak.

The college student was seriously injured after he was shot in front of a nightclub on Wednesday, allegedly over a damaged car side mirror.

The three policemen, with the ranks of corporal and lance-corporal, were based at Bukit Aman and the Selangor police contingent headquarters, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said.

In the 6am incident, the victim and his three friends were leaving the nightclub in their car when it was believed that he had knocked the side mirror of another car while reversing.

The group of men in the other car was said to have approached the victim’s car and smashed the rear windscreen with an iron rod.

The victim and his friends then got out of the car and tried to run away.

But the student was shot in the buttocks and leg.

The men chased the victim’s friends for about 100m, firing two more shots before feeling when the victim fell to the ground.

It is learnt that a pistol used in the shooting was recovered not far from the scene.

The victim is warded at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 1, 2011): Three policemen and three civilians were arrested over the shooting of a youth outside a nightclub at Taman Seri Rampai, Setapak early yesterday.

City police CID chief SAC II Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the policemen, who are lance corporals, and the civilians, who are in their 20s, were arrested within hours of the incident, in which the youth was seriously injured.

Iinitial police investigations showed that both the policemen and the youths had patronised the same nightclub but were in different groups.

At about 6am when the four youths returned to their car, they found a car window broken.

Ku said the youths, who are not students as reported earlier, had allegedly accused the policemen of damaging their car before confronting and attacking the cops with machete and iron rods.

He said the policemen retaliated and one of them opened fire with his handgun, injuring one of the youths in the buttocks and leg. The injured man is recovering at the Ampang district hospital.

Ku said police have obtained a five-day remand order on the suspects.

Karunakaran said the developer had also allocated a land behind the houses to build a temple and a multi-purpose hall, which are presently under construction.

Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy said the villagers could expect to move in by August after the occupancy certificates had been issued by the Penang Municipal Council.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Quiet has settled over Saturday’s chaos but one image is still making waves on the Internet — the picture of an elderly woman in yellow, drenched in rain and chemical-laced water, walking away from riot police while clutching on to a long-stemmed flower and a near-empty mineral water bottle.

She is Annie Ooi, a 65-year-old retired English teacher who took a bus from Setapak in the early morning of July 9 to join thousands of others in Bersih 2.0’s march for free and fair elections. An unknown man had offered her the flower in the morning and she waved it like a flag throughout the four-hour march.

Netizens have dubbed her “Aunty Bersih”, and even Malaysia’s “Lady of Liberty”, for placing her health and safety at risk to join a march the government had declared illegal.

Pictures of the diminutive Ooi strolling in the war zone that Kuala Lumpur had turned into are all over the Internet, inviting messages of awe and wonderment from netizens across the country.

On Facebook, at least three fan pages were set up in dedication to Ooi immediately after the event. One page called “Malaysian Lady of Liberty” attracted 17,176 “likes” as of 9am this morning.

Ooi was one of the few who dared to turn up in yellow to mark the occasion, despite earlier warnings that those with clothes indicating support for the outlawed Bersih 2.0 coalition would be arrested.

Speaking to The Malaysian Insider through her daughter over Facebook chat last night, Ooi confirmed that she had been tear gassed four times and sprayed with the water cannon once during Saturday’s pandemonium.

She said she was unsure of what time the rally was scheduled to start or where, but was determined to support its cause by participating in it even if she had to do it alone.

“She took the bus to General Hospital because the roads into town were blocked,” her daughter related. “She walked to Chow Kit, Maju Junction, went into the back lane of Little India to pass Masjid Jamek, avoiding cops, heading to National Mosque but was stopped at Dayabumi.”

There, Ooi was interviewed by one uniformed policeman and four others in plainclothes. They asked for her IC and recorded her details, then asked her why she was dressed in yellow. “Why can’t I wear yellow?” she asked in return.

According to a post by a blogger who claimed to have spoken to Ooi before the march began, the feisty retiree had asked other protesters why they did not turn up in yellow as well. “Why do we have to feel so scared in our own home land . . . and by own countrymen,” she had reportedly said.

A newbie at street protests, Ooi also did not know what to do in the event that she got gassed, and had not brought anything to protect herself, her daughter said.

“She wasn’t prepared for any of the attacks,” her daughter said. “She went without protection; no goggles, no masks, no salt, nothing. It was horrible . . . the coughing, and didn’t know how to stop the discomfort and pain. After the second gassing, she was offered salt by someone and it helped a lot.”
Despite this, eyewitnesses claimed on the internet that Ooi had marched on determinedly during the protest and despite the chaos, even yelled at others not to run.

When told to ask her mother if she would dare to brave another march for the same cause, her daughter said, quoting Ooi, “Without a doubt”.

“There was a very strong oneness in spirit which she had never felt before in this country,” added the daughter again quoting Ooi. “Especially from the younger generation which have their years ahead of them yet marched on despite the possibility of ruining their lives by getting arrested.”

Ooi was among the thousands of protesters who took to the streets of Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to march in support of Bersih 2.0’s demand for electoral reforms.

More than a thousand people were arrested, and chaos broke out at midday after the police fired tear gas canisters and sprayed water cannons to break up the crowd.

Stealing is Bad, says Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd

Kota Kinabalu: More than 300 houses in five squatter areas here were found stealing electricity during a Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) operation on Tuesday. Some in the most creative ways possible to avoid detection.

Its Tanjung Aru Central Zone Manager, Yuzrian Efren Yunus, said the operation, which also involved the Auxiliary Police, was carried out at Kg Lokub, Kg Gantisan, Kg Suang Parai, Kg Padas and Kg Ratau in the Sepanggar and Karambunai areas.

"During the operation, the team uncovered and seized hundreds of metres of electrical cables hidden in drains, in the ground, tapping of overhead electric cables, illegal connections to power sub-stations and City Hall street lighting panels. Immediately, we cut off the illegal connections in this tenth operation. On average, we seized between 50 and 100kg of various wires in each location," he said during the exercise at Kg.Lokub, near here.

Yuzrian said SESB incurs RM4 million losses every year because of illegal power connections. From January to June this year, 144 operations were carried in Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Semporna.

He said efforts to eliminate power thefts in squatter areas have shown impact following a drop in SESB's distribution system losses from 14.84 per cent in 2006 to 8.27 per cent this year.

"We are asking for the public's cooperation to provide us with information on illegal connections or if they spot individuals behaving suspiciously at any of the SESB power sub-stations by contacting the nearest SESB office or call our hotline 15454 or 088-282455.

"It is a criminal offence to steal electricity under Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and those found guilty of committing the offence can be fined up to RM100,000 or three years' jail or both," Yuzrian said.
