GPL Compliance for Huawei EC2108

Hi all,

I'm wondering if the Linux kernel source code (as well as any GNU utilities and/or BusyBox) for the Unifi set top box (Huawei EC2108 in most cases) is available somewhere. The Linux kernel is licensed under the GNU General Public License v2 and it is mandatory for Huawei and/or TM to offer the GPL source code for distribution. I have looked on Huawei's website but was unable to find the particular model.

The last I checked, this particular set top box model is used only by TM. No other ISPs uses it, so there isn't much information about it on the Internet. If Huawei does not make the source code available, it is a violation of the GPL and they can be sued.

I actually want the kernel source code just for educational purposes

Transferring contacts database (WM2003SE)

Hi,

My father has recently upgraded from his O2 Xda II Mini (running Windows Mobile 2003 SE) to a HTC TyTn II (running Windows Mobile 6), because he lost his O2 Xda II Mini. However, I've created a backup of the previous O2 Xda II Mini via ActiveSync, producing a file named Backup.stg. My father wants to restore all his contacts to the new phone.

I've extracted the Contacts Database using MobileVault, and the resulting file is not in binary format (CSV, however I don't know what other columns mean). I thought the Windows Mobile 6 uses the same database system, however, it seems that the Contacts Database in WM6 has been removed, and has been changed to a file named pim.vol at the root drive of the mobile device. I've also tried the Backup/Restore option in ActiveSync, but it doesn't seem to work (the option is greyed out). I'm running ActiveSync 4.5.

How am I able to convert the Contacts Database (extracted from backup.stg through MobileVault) to the new pim.vol format? Help?

Regards,
yjwong

MySQL Windows Table Symbolic Links

Hi all,

I want to create a symbolic link for a table to another. I know this is possible for Unix systems as you can simply symlink the database directory/table files. However, on Windows, there are no symbolic links available. It is currently only possible for Windows-based MySQL servers to do database symlinks (not table symlinks), as specified here.

How am I going to create a table-specific symbolic link? Any sifus willing to tell? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
yjwong

Laptop Overheating =_=

Hi,

I'm not sure whether this is the right section to post my problem in (or is it Technical Support?). However, since my problem is related to temperature, I guess I should post in here, since there are many "cooling professionals" here

Kay, my laptop is an Acer Aspire 5562, and the specifications are listed in my signature. After like 15 minutes of usage, the notebook temperature rises to 65 degrees Celsius, then after long periods, it will overheat. I had to throttle my CPU clock to EIST mode (from Dynamic Switching to Power Saver), keeping the clock speed at 1000 Mhz constantly to prevent overheating. I also had to downclock my graphics card (ATI Mobility Radeon X1400) to the lowest powerstate, that is, 196 Mhz core and 180 Mhz memory. Obviously, there is a substantial performance impact involved. Even after throttling CPU and graphics card speed, the temperature remains at 75 degrees celsius, and at high load (100% CPU constantly), it will reach 90 degrees celsius. I'm using NHC 2.0 (Notebook Hardware Control) to control the processor clock speed.

I would like to have the maximum performance of my laptop while not overheating. A cooling fan seems to solve the problem, however, it is not very nice carrying a cooling fan everywhere with me. It is not a very convenient thing to do. I'm looking for a permanent solution. Can anyone recommend me a solution?

Screenshots of NHC are attached below...

EDIT: This happens with all of my three installed Operating Systems (refer to signature)

Regards,
yjwong

Linux Dreamscene

Hi guys,

I'm sorry if this has been posted before. I was looking for an equivalent to Windows Dreamscene in Linux and I tried out the method posted here. I downloaded xwinwrap and mplayer, fiddled a little with the configuration, then got it working instantly. The performance was quite comparable to Windows Dreamscene, and the CPU usage on my laptop was about 18% - 25% (Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66Ghz). The only shortcoming was that the icons would disappear behind the video. All file formats supported by mplayer would work.

You must have a compositing manager already installed (I think either Beryl or Compiz would do fine).

Here's how you can install it on Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10:
1. System -> Administration -> Software Sources.
2. Type in root password when prompted.
3. Click on the "Third Party" tab.
4. Click on the "Add" button.
5. Paste this line in: deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb edgy beryl-svn
6. Download the GPG key to somewhere. (enable authenticated packages) - Don't close Software Sources yet
7. Switch back to Software Sources, click on the "Authentication" tab.
8. Click "Import key file", then open the GPG key you downloaded just now.
9. Click close. If prompted to update the package list, do so.
10. System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager
11. Type in root password (if prompted)
12. Hit Ctrl+F, type in "mplayer", hit Enter.
13. Click on the box beside mplayer, then click "Mark for Installation".
14. Hit Ctrl+F, type in "xwinwrap", hit Enter.
15. Click on the box beside xwinwrap, then click "Mark for Installation".
16. Click "Apply", then "OK" to accept the changes.
17. Once everything is installed, Hit Alt+F2, type "gmplayer", hit Enter.
18. Right click on the mplayer window, then click "Preferences".
19. Click on the "Video" tab.
20. Click on the "gl" driver, then click "OK".
21. Close mplayer.

You can now run "Linux Dreamscene". However, I didn't want to register at the JCXP.net forums so I created a script myself. However, this script is written in PHP (I only know PHP) so you need to install PHP to run it. The script is the attachment below. You can place it in your $PATH. However, there's a bug. xwinwrap won't be killed even if I answer "yes" to the prompt. To stop the movie, just Alt+F2, "killall xwinwrap".

Regards,
yjwong

Problem with SSH

Hi everyone,

I'm running CentOS, and I'm behind a proxy server. I do not have root access over the machine. I wanted to SSH to the Sourceforge Shell Servers, but it keeps timing out so I think the problem is with the proxy. After doing a Google search, I found out that SSH does not use the ~/.netrc file to determine proxy settings, and I need to use the ProxyCommand directive to define a proxy server. However, the connect command was not found on the machine and I do not have root access to install it.

Anyone knows how I could connect to the server/set a proxy? Thanks in advance.
