SSL (https) secure in public free wifi ?

Hi,

if i use public wifi ( eg Starbuck ) to access gmail ( https ), it is easy for hacker to sniffer and decrypt my connection ?

my notebook -> connect to starbuck wifi with no security -> logon to gmail.

we can easily use some sniffer to intercept network packet and analyse it but since the gmail is using https, can i say i am secure since the network packet is encrypted ? It is easy to decrypt network packet which encrypt by SSL certificate ?

and, i am using WPA2-PSK security for my home wifi, and the encryption type is AES. If i am using my home wifi to access gmail, is that means my network packet is secure by double encryption ( 1 is from AES, another 1 is from SSL ) ?

if some one need to sniffer my message, he will need to

1) break the WPA2-PSK security ( which is guess my password )
2) then decrypt AES
3) then decrypt SSL

am i right ? and can i say that it is possible but it is very difficult unless some one got a very high hacking skill can do this ?

Hi,

i am using VIP5 and the DIR-615 from TMNet. I have try out the router Qos and found out this engine only use to priority the games only. how to i set the priority on below:

Top priority = web browsing
second priority = skype
thrid priority = pps stream
lowest priority = torrent download

i have 1 desktop computer and 1 notebook and all connected using wireless. i use my computer for torrent and my wife using the notebook to browse internet ( like facebook, pps stream and skype ). Notice that once i on the torrent, all the bandwidth are fully use by this and the web browsing become very slow and most of the time 'page not found'. i don't want to set the limit of the torrent download because if my wife is not using internet, the torrent should fully utilise the bandwidth.

i am not sure the DIR-615 can do this or not ? or, can you recommended any router can do above job and also what is the price ?

thanks.

Hi, my fren told me below, is this correct ?

if i need to download a 500MB movie file, it will required below time

5 mbps
=======
5 mbps = 0.625 MBps

500MB / 0.625 MBps = 800 second
800 second / 60 = 13 minute

5 MBps
=======
500MB = 100 second
100 second / 60 = 1 minute

assume the line is stable and we can get the max speed. unfortunately, our current ISP all is under the group mbps ( not the capital MBps )..
hi,

i have install the VIP 5 package few week ago and so far quite happy with the 'light' speed

the only thing which i need to complain is the STB, most of the channel is sucks and no good. look like this STB is useless to me.
i have a thinking which would like to go for 'lelong' it out

before i leleong it, would like to check on below 2 thing :

1) my fren told me the TM is giving separate additional 8MB for the STB for the Video, is this true ? if yes, can we utilise this 8MB into our normal subscription ? which means 5MB ( VIP5 bandwidth ) + 8MB STB bandwidth ? it is possible ?

2) since the STB is running linux, can we hack into it and change the auto load program to PPSStream ( pps got a version for linux ), so we can turn the STB into 'PPSStream box' ? it is possible ?

above is just my dream, hope all of you don't mine

Thanks.
