Upgrading old old Dell Dimension 520

Hi,

It's currently got an ancient Athlon x2 in it, some ancient 1300 pro amd gpu, 2gb of ddr2 ram, a 320 WD hdd (I'm gonna want to salvage this). I was wondering if I can upgrade this desktop. Would it be possible for me to just rip out all the guts and buy new mobo/cpu/gpu/RAM and replace them? I was looking atthe following (at the shop in Publika) and they quoted me the price of RM4000.

Core i5 4440 - RM600
Z87 D3HP mobo - RM499
Kingston RAM 8GB - 250
GTX770 - RM1399 (though I think I'll be going for the 760, which according to lowyat's price lists is around ~ 500 less?)
Dell E2440L - RM699 (they quoted me another 24" LCD by LG that costs 499, which I'll try to pickup if there is stock)
Windows 7 Home Premium - 370
Thermaltake litepower 600W PSU - 220

Wondering if it's worth it for a PC that is for some moderate gaming but mostly just fairly future proofed. I was also trying to explore instead of the i5 to go for an amd FX 6300. Please advise. Also please advise if you think this cannot fit into my desktop case, as I would like to know if it can't before lugging it down there.

New Computer

Hi, I'm gonna be buying a new comp from Dell (okok you can laugh but its for my parents so they wanted some decent customer service...) and am trying to spec it out to be semi future-proof, perhaps for 3+ years? I've roughly got an idea for the XPS 8300, which comes with a i7 2600, a gtx 560Ti, 1TB HDD, 25" monitor. Would a 560Ti + the 2600 be ok to play things like BF3, MW3, Skyrim? Preferably higher than medium or low, probably not 1920:1020 but would be great if it could Anyone using this kinda range of setup and can give me an idea of how well it runs at what settings etc?

Hey guys I'm planning to get a new PC end of the year, with a i7 2600, 8gb 1333mhz ram, 1.2gb gtx 560ti. I want to future proof it, so how well will this run BF3 at say High/ultra setting on a 24" monitor? Probably 1920x1080 resi

Hi, I need help with HDDs. I'm looking to buy a fairly big (500GB++) HDD for storage of music, movies and other stuff so my actual laptop HDD is free for uni stuff. Can anyone recommend me a few with decent price:storage ratio? Also, since its for music and movies and stuff that I dont need to load Damn fast, do I Need 7200RPM or is 5400 enough? Can someone list me a few brands and models, and if the sifu's can also explain whats the importance of a big cache/RPM it would be great!

Making a New Desktop

Hi.

I want to buy a new desktop. I'm currently using a Dell Dimension E521. I'm looking either to buy a new desktop from Dell or get it custom made and will scavenge the case and DVD drive, unless they are available cheap. My current specs are:

CPU : AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+ @ 2.61 GHz
GPU : 256 MB ATI Radeon x1300PRO
RAM : 2GB DDR 2
HDD : 320GB

I would like the computer to be able to be decently fast and capable for at least 4 - 5 years and as I know a bit about computers, I've asked one shop so far with the following specs, and they quoted me the price below.

CPU : i5-2500 - 680
RAM : 2 x 4GB - 300
HDD : 1.5TB - 270
Mobo : Gigabyte P61 - 330
GPU : GTX 550 - 540
PSU : 500W Silver stone - 280
OS : Win 7 Home Premium - 300.

Total = RM 2700.

I was wondering if you can quote me a better price? Also, I was wondering if you can also quote me a price with the following changes instead.

CPU : i3 2100
RAM : 1 x 4GB
HDD : 750GB
Mobo : Anything suitable
GPU : GTX 560 Ti
PSU : Anything Suitable
OS : Win 7 Home Premium

I don't need the computer to be able to play Crysis running at 1920 x 1080 at 30+ FPS, nor I don't think I need a quad-core or 8GB RAM as it is mostly for surfing the net and a bit of gaming/videos. However I would like a slightly better GPU. Also, what brand and model of GPU would you suggest? My budget can reach to RM 2700, but would much rather it be as low as possile. Also, I have two questions. If I bring down the case can you help me with the fitting and wiring? Secondly, if it does not fit, can you suggest me a case that looks decent and is quite cheap?

Pleas help,
Waynesalt
