HSBC - the worst local bank

Allow me to share you a story about HSBC (Hopelessly Sickening Bank Corporation) and they deserve this tagline: "The Worst Local Bank". I had many unpleasant encounter with this bank before, however this is definitely an awful one. To those whom still have accounts/credit cards with HSBC, stay vigilant and alert towards your account. They are good in denying what they have published in their website, which is disadvantageous for us as clients/customers. Never ever be afraid to exercise your rights when needed. This is what I wrote to Bank Negara today on my recent experience. Take a couple of minutes to read this.

"Dear Bank Negara and the Complaint Team of HSBC,

Good day to you. My name Nik, the credit card holder of HSBC. I would like to file an official complaint towards HSBC Bank (M) Berhad call centre, for breach of integrity and false information provided.

This is how the story went. On 30 January 2016, I made a payment through my HSBC Savings Account to my HSBC credit card worth of RM200.00 as there is an urgent purchase required of RMxxxx, which my credit limit available was only RMxxxx

In my humble experience in banking with banks in Malaysia, to my understanding, when I make instant transfer from my Savings account to my credit card account, the funds are updated immediately, and so is the credit limit.

To my horror, on 31 January 2016, I realized that the credit limit was not updated, which HSBC system did not update the payment on time. Having that said, on 31 January 2016, I called HSBC customer service at about 3:00pm and had spoken with Akmal.

I explained my situation to him and requested help to increase the credit limit temporarily in the event the funds are still not captured by their system. Akmal was hilarious and absurd - he told me that there is no such thing as temporary increase of credit limit in HSBC in emergency cases, only permanent increase can take place with the need to submit in my income documents.

That said, until I requested to speak to a supervisor, only he tells me there is such a thing such as temporary increase of credit limit without even uttering a word of apology towards the mistake he made. Having that said, he said someone will call me back from the authorization department however that did not take place at all.

To add on towards the horror, at about 4:30pm, I made a call to HSBC again. I basically waited for 30 minutes to be able to speak with someone, by the name of Azril from HSBC hotline.

This officer is even far more ridiculous. He gave me wrong information that in the event I transfer funds from my HSBC Savings account to my HSBC credit card, the turnaround time for the funds to be reflected and made available to my credit card takes 3-4 working days.

I have requested then to speak with a supervisor and after much hesitation, finally my call got transferred to Kavitha, the supervisor on duty.

Having to speak with Kavitha was a nightmare - she was completely useless and hopeless. She guided me to go to the Internet Banking and wanted to educate me on the Cut Off Time by HSBC where in the website, it is clearly stated as:

Payment Initiated by Customers
Business Days (Mon-Fri), Non-Business Days (Saturday, Sunday and Federal Territory Public Holidays)

Funds Received by Beneficiaries
Immediate

Kindly refer to the file attached in this email, which is published in HSBC website. Therefore I requested Kavitha to listen to the call and provide me the resolution and compensation, reason being the funds were deducted from my Savings and yet, the funds were not available. I have also requested her to draft a letter in details, acknowledging the false information that her 2 staffs have given me and the breach of integrity that HSBC has done, giving false information on the website when that is not the actual case which has caused misery towards my purchase.

On 1st of February 2016, Kavitha returned me a call, telling me that her staffs did not make any error in providing wrong information to me, it was me being at fault. To add on, she said there will be no compensation can be provided (which I am fine with it since this is subjected to the management approval) and there will be no apology letter except she can draft a letter telling me that the fund transfer from Savings Account to Credit Card takes 1 working day, and there will be no error that came from her staffs and herself. She even challenged me that there is no error on HSBC website.

To me, this is a serious breach of integrity where HSBC is not aligned with its policy and victimize their customers when they do not have a solution towards issues addressed.

I have since called HSBC hotline and spoken with another supervisor, to notify him that I am writing this email, and I demand this to be settled professionally where I expect stern actions to be taken against Kavitha, Azril and Akmal.

To MalaysiaKini and Malaymail Hotline, please take note of these matter and in the event this needs to be published, please do not hesitate to do so.
