So the seemingly lackluster result of Sinovac's trial in Brazil is due to the sample itself. We cannot compare efficacy results objectively because different trials use different sampling methods.

Kelley Aerospace unveils supersonic combat drone concept

Kelley Aerospace has officially launched its supersonic unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) concept, and says it has recieved 100 “pre-orders” for the vehicle.

Known as the Arrow, the combat drone was designed and will be produced at the company’s facility in Singapore’s Seletar Aerospace Park. Test flights of a scale prototype were conducted in Israel in 2014

The first stage of testing of the PD-35 engine fan demonstrator was conducted successfully on June 27 in Russia. The technology demonstrator is the first in Russia to use blades made of composite materials. The fan demonstrator was scaled down to fit the smaller PD-14 engine, on which it was tested. Flight tests of the actual-size PD-35 demonstrator won’t begin until 2025. Composite blades for PD-35 are made of Russian-produced composite materials developed by Russian Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).

The first prototype of the new Russian MC-21-300 airliner equipped with Aviadvigatel PD-14 engines has successfully completed its first flight test. The flight took place on take-off from the runway of the Irkutsk aeronautics factory and lasted 1 hour 25 minutes, on 15 December 2020. The cold section consists of a single-stage fan with wide, hollow titanium blades.

Change Workshop During Insurance Claim

My car had an accident last week. I filed an insurance claim on the next day together with all the necessary paperwork. The claim took 4 days to be approved. The workshop's rep told me he would order the parts and call me once they arrived. That was 3 days ago. He still have not called me. He had told me once the parts arrive, the repair would take at least 10 days. My damage is just broken bumper and rear light and need a bit of hammering on a small dent. When I was making a police report, a runner there offered the services of his workshop, which he said would finish the job in 4 days. In short, I am unsatisfied with the current workshop.

My question is, since I have filed the claim through the workshop I mentioned earlier, can I change to another workshop? What are the steps to be taken?

There is a two-page memorial in The Star today, devoted to mostly entertainers. I find it sad that the people who made the spread did not find it important to pay tribute to scientists, you know, the underpaid under respected people who work for the betterment of mankind.

Car Vibration when braked and in D

I have a Toyota Vios with about 150k mileage. All 10k servicing are done at the service center.

Recently, my car is vibrating badly when engaged in 'D' and braking at the same time. The rpm drops to like 500. When put in neutral, even with aircon on, no vibration is felt, though sometimes, there is like a slight jerk (I think this is normal).

And before you ask, I always put neutral at traffice lights. Its just that when I'm inching in traffic crawl, this vibration is very annoying, forcing me to keep switching between neutral and 'D' constantly.

I went to a shop to check. The mechanic recommended cleaning the throttle body and changing the engine mounts. I did the former, but this didn't work. So my question is, is there any other cheaper things to check, before committing to change the engine mounts. I read in some forums that changing mounts do not always work.

SOSCO late contribution

Recently, my employer has informed me that I have failed to tell them I am a SOSCO member, causing them and me to not pay anything to SOSCO for several years. Now that SOSCO has found out, my employer and me must pay the arrears. But my employer has informed me that SOSCO will also impose a fine on me, which will be borne by me. Can any knowledgeable member give me a ballpark on how much is this fine? Thanks.

RCCB tripping intermittently

Hi,

My RCCB started tripping intermittently yesterday. Only the RCCB tripped, none of the MCBs tripped. I can easily switch the RCCB back on everytime. Last night, with just the bedroom room fan, bedroom a/c, bathroom light, and stairwell light on (I switched off and unplugged everything else, including the fridge), the RCCB tripped about once an hour, until I turned off the a/c. It then tripped about 6 hours later. At this time, only the fan in the bedroom was on (but other appliances were on downstairs as well since it's morning now).

Can anyone recommend experienced electricians to help me? Thanks.
