Hello everyone,
So currently I am doing degree in Civil Engineering in Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). I am still in first year and I am looking forward to achieve first class honours since my lecturer says that it can benefit me in so many ways such as PTPTN loan can be converted to full scholarship and I can straight do phD afterwards. But I'm a bit confused actually. I really wanna do phD upon completion of my degree (if and only if I manage to graduate with first class honours) but I am afraid because many people think that phD is only for those who wanna work in academic sectors. I wanna be a civil engineer. Maybe structural engineer or bridge. So, is it okay if I plan to do phD? By the time I finish my degree, I am 23 years old and if I do phD, I'm gonna finish it when i'm 27 years old right? and only after that I'll start working and after 10 years, get my IR. Can someone please clarify and enlighten me? I'm a bit confused whether this is the right path. I really appreciate if you guys can help and lend me some of your ideas and opinions. Or anyone who has started working, you can share your experience here
