SAMBA workshop

Olá! We from Arte é Vida Dance Studio proudly presents to you a Samba Workshop!
what is a Samba Dance you ask? well! :
Samba is a lively, rhythmical dance of Brazilian origin! The Samba music rhythm has been danced in Brazil since its inception in the late 19th century. It has been performed as a street dance at carnival, the pre-Lenten celebration, for almost 100 years. Many versions of the Samba (from Baião to Marcha) are danced at the local carnival in Rio. The ballroom Samba or Carioca Samba is derived from the rural "Rocking Samba" and has been known for many years. (The Carioca is a small river that runs through Rio de Janiero - hence the name Carioca refers to the people of Rio.) Today Samba is still very popular in Rio. During carnival time there are "schools of Samba" involving thousands of elaborately-costumed dancers presenting a national theme based on music typical of Brazil and Rio in particular.

Now! have you watched Rio? If you have , do you remember how the birds dances to the music and the carnival towards the end of the show? The extravaganza costumes , lights and music?! now THATS Samba!

So we are now offering a TWO hour non stop workshop conducted by our very own Instructora Lilica Vargas!

Lilica Vargas, born in Santa Catarina and grew up in São Paulo , Brazil. Lilica started her journey out of Brazil at a tender age of 25 to Indonesia and then Malaysia to spread her knowledge and love of Capoeira, Samba, Afro, Forro and many other Brazilian specialties. She now resides here in Kuala Lumpur, teaching what she loves most in her studio here in Mont Kiara.

In this workshop you will learn Samba steps, Samba variation, choreography and the form of Samba would be Samba de Passista .

There will also be live music by the Bantus Batucada! Batucada is a drumming session in samba, or in a samba parade. It is a substyle of samba and refers to an African influenced Brazilian percussive style, usually performed by an ensemble.

So what are you waiting for?! A fun Brazilian cultured filled afternoon with us! and yes some light Brazilian refreshments will be served!
