Condo Students Problems

Hi all,

Any JMB have experience handling this issue?

Our condo have agents dealing with school wardens to rent out to students. One block nearly 50% tenancy rate are students. Each unit they cram in 10+ students.

Can imagine the condo become dirty, amenities breakdown increase, motor simply parking, car simply parking, make noise, etc.

Any law we can use against them?

Pickup Trucks public impression in Malaysia

Hi all, my trusty old 1st gen Saga was stolen recently and I'm on the lookout for a new vehicle.

I've always been fascinated by SUV but their prices are way beyond my budget (except for Suzuki Grand Vitara around 100k). So the next best thing to look at are the various Pickup Trucks offered in the Malaysian market. As a matter of fact, imho, the pickup trumps SUVs in terms of carrying capacity and utilitarian purposes which I highly regard, albeit sacrificing vehicle compactness.

Everywhere I ask though, people give me a strange look when I say I'm planning to get a pickup truck. People tend to relate pickup trucks with the low end of the social spectrum. One of my friends even went as far as saying that if I go pick up a girlfriend, will her friends think if I'm a construction worker.

Personally I think the pickup trucks are handsome (especially the recent releases), their features and comfort levels were improved. Suitable for Malaysia weather, flood or rain ain't gonna be a problem, relatively good fc (correct me if I'm wrong), cheaper diesel (albeit just 10cents ).

Those are the good I see, and the opinions that I collected. Would like to get some feedback from everyone, owners or not, thanks!

Analog/Anadigi with ABC/Adventure watches

This thread is dedicated to analog or anadigi (Analog watch with some digital displays) watches with all or part of altimeter, barometer, compass, temperature, tide functions. Actually through my research there aren't much such watches, which is why I've decided to share my research, in hopes that more fans of such watches will contribute their knowledge.

These are the available brands/models known to me:

Casio
Casio Protrek Triple Sensor Analog Display Series

Main features:
- Solar powered
- Altimeter
- Barometer
- Digital Compass
- Thermometer

Timex
Timex Intelligent Quartz Adventure Series Altimeter

Main features:
- Altimeter

Timex Intelligent Quarty Adventure Series Compass

Main features:
- Digital Compass

Timex Intelligent Quartz Adventure Tide Temp Compass

Main features:
- Tide
- Digital Compass
- Thermometer

Tissot
Tissot T-Touch Series

Main features:
- Altimeter
- Digital Compass
- Thermometer

Anyone know of any other brands/models feel free to contribute

LHDN revenge on past years Income Tax

Hi guys, I just started filing my tax this year (2011) through e-filing, I guess once you do that they check ur previous years records. So I just received a call from home that LHDN sent me a letter penalizing me for previous years tax (2008-2010).

Here's the gist, for my previous working years, my company did deduct the PCB from my salary, just that I did not declare. Meaning I did pay for my taxes.
Now LHDN is assuming my salary and taxing me based on that amount + penalty somewhere within these range:

2008 tax payable = ~400 + penalty
2009 tax payable = ~400 + penalty
2010 tax payable = ~500 + penalty

What I would like to know, is that I have kept all my bills and BE form throughout the years, can I rebuttal them by showing the documents?

e.g. year 2008-2010 I did pay for my taxes as stated in my salary slips and BE form. Will it be effective to cancel out the 'principal tax' amount for each year?
Considering my PCB deductions are suffice to cover the taxable amount, rendering my penalties as below:

2008 tax payable = ~penalty
2009 tax payable = ~penalty
2010 tax payable = ~penalty

There are two things you can't escape in your life, one is death, the other is you know what.

Postpaid Access Fees cover talktime & sms?

Hi guys, I am in the process of getting a postpaid account for my mobile. Does the monthly commitment fees of postpaid cover 'free' talktime & sms?

DiGi: Digi Postpaid

QUOTE

E.g. Digi DG30 the info pop up mentions:
Monthly Commitment
You monthly commitment is the minimum fee you pay for your call plan every month. It covers all mobile services (voice, SMS, MMS, data etc.) up to RM30, after which you will simply have to pay the balance of your total usage costs.

QUOTE

whereas DGSmartPlan:
Monthly Commitment
Your monthly commitment is the minimum fee you pay for your data plan every month. You will also be charged for other mobile services (voice, SMS and MMS).

Does that mean DG30 covers your talktime/sms up to RM30 and will surcharge once that is 'used up'?
Where as SmartPlan once u call u will start charge based on the rates?

Celcom: Celcom Postpaid
Celcom Exec has no info on this, it seems like its the 'monthly payment + any call/sms charge' way.

Umobile: Umobile postpaid
It is stated very clearly in their charts so no questions here on 'free' talktime & sms depending on plans.

It seems telcos have 2 type of postpaid plans, one is the traditional, the other are the combos like dgsmartplan and umobile.

On another note, which telco/plan fits more to my personal preference:
1. Coverage, even in rural areas
2. Decent dataplan
3. Moderate calls
Wires stealing current from fuse box

Hi guys, recently I went to an auto shop to install central locking for my old 1st gen proton saga circa 1990. Those guys installed 3 wires attach to my frontal fuse box presumedly to power the central locking.

After driving a while the air-cond 'died' so I took it to the aircond repair shop. The guy checked and found out that some wires were pulling current from my frontal fuse box. (The wires were tied to the leg of the fuses and plugged back in) is causing the problem.

After he removed one wire, the aircond came back on. On the other hand, I found out that my central locking is not working properly.

I also realized the other 2 fuses which have wire pulling current from them were starting to show signs of melting (the plastic of the fuse is bubbly).

What I want to know is there a proper way for them to get the current from the car without doing this wire-fuse-redirect method? As I can see it is more like hack job rather than proper wiring!

Phoneline hijack possible?

Hi guys, here's the situation and I would like to know whether anyone have any idea on it.

I have a streamyx account with a personal phone line that I subscribed on this rented room in a house, I use it for personal and work so I didn't share it. The speed when I surf whenever no one is around the house is very fast and smooth. But whenever someone comes back into the house, the speed drops dramatically.

Haha it's not a paranormal activity Im suggesting here. Im just wondering coz this is a preowned house and they have phone lines running into different room from the same line outside the telephone poll. Issit possible that someone could be plugging into a phone socket and logging onto streamyx or whatever broadband?

Meaning there is one active telephone line which I activated, but other people are plugging into the socket to other broadband thus causing the slow down when they surf/download?

Is there a way to check the phone line usage from tmnet?

Need assitance on car wiring and Battery charging

Hi all, I own a fist generation proton saga. Lately, its been really acting up. The main issue I'm suffering from (or rather the car is suffering from lol) is the 'no power' problem. Allow to me illustrate the issue.

One day after parking my car gong to work, I can smell some 'wiring burn' smell... u know that smell like some electrical thing is 'burned' or something. I knew something bad is gonna happen but I din care... coz also dunno what to care at that time. So later when I go back to get my car, it wont start due to no power liao. I suspect is some electrical short have drained the power.

I did some searching and found some answers here in lowyat.net on how to check the battery alternator with a multimeter, so I went out and got myself one and then asked my friend to charge up the battery a few days later. After charging, I disconnected the charging wires from my friends car and started my own car. The multimeter read 13+ V with the engine running so this means the alternator is working (I just changed it one month back... recond though ) After tat, I can start the car and drove home without problem.

Then after a few days I goand check my car, sure enough, the power is drained again and I cant start the car again. All this leads me to believe that it must be some wiring fault that is draining my car battery. One symptom is that both of the main lights on my car did not light up when I tested it with a charged battery.

Now the question: I wanna buy a battery charger, searching the forum resulted in a teletron model which can output 12v, 14v at 6amp model TC-1206A. Does the amperage matters if I use it to charge the battery? I fear there might be some kind of limit on the battery. ( I know you can bring it to the shop to charge. I just wanted a charger coz this car always got these problems, sometime the shop no open so at least I can charge myself for 'temporary relief')

Any sifus here done any wiring check themselves? I'm so fed up with taking her to the shop every time I thought I'd start some DIY.

Just wondering if it is possible for people to use one phone line 'running' the following combination:

Streamyx + dialup
Streamyx + streamyx

The reason I'm asking is my line is terribly slow lately, wondering if someone might be 'stealing' the line.
