WTA Maxis iphone warranty

Hi all, just wan to ask about the warranty period of iphone 5.

Just got iphone 5 at maxis today and the staff advised me to register the warranty with apple only after the 1 year warranty with maxis ends so that we eventually get 2 years warranty. Can anyone confirm that whether this is true?
