John Travolta Brings some Disco Fever to the recent MCA Polls, MCA officials unimpressed.

Excerpt from the PM's Keynote at the Event :

The PM sounded a “last call” to MCA to "STAY ALIVE" before it was too late and proposed four measures to this end.

He called for all members of the party to work with Mr.Travolta in his tireless dancing efforts in reuniting, re-strategising, reinvigorating and reestablishing the party so that it would become the choice of the Chinese Disco community once more.

This may be the last call for MCA. It is no longer a wake-up call. If you have not woken up by now, it is too late. If you have not woken up by now, turn the music UP!!! If you have not woken up by now, Please take a round on the floor with Mr.Travolta here” he said, adding that was why he regarded the party elections as a watershed event.

MCA must emerge as more united and cohesive after this Disco Partaaaay,” said Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, when opening the 60th MCA annual general meeting

He urged its members not to be vindictive for the sake of Disco party unity. “Winners should be magnanimous and those who lost the dance off should be gracious,” he said.

He added MCA’s previous Disco tussles had led to Bell Bottom splits and contributed to the party’s waning influence.

MCA, therefore, needed to implement a new Dance strategy to instill confidence in its members that Disco power-sharing in Barisan was the best dance formula for the country, he said.

Najib also said that whatever was spoken and done on the dance floor should not cause hurt to others. This was true for both MCA and Umno.

“This is not rocket science. If we want to safeguard disco harmony, we cannot hurt the feelings of others.”

As for reinvigorating the disco party, he quipped: “You have the members, you have the people. But it looks like the flesh is willing but the spirit is weak. We need a political <removed>.”

Najib said that Barisan needed a revived MCA that was the choice of the Chinese Disco community.

“Nothing will please me more as the Barisan chairman if this comes to fruition,” he added.

He said the strength of MCA's dancing as the second most senior component party in Barisan had a bearing on the entire coalition.

“A strong MCA equals a strong Barisan while a weak MCA would have negative disco consequences. Let us build a better, more prosperous and more successful Malaysia,” he added.

Najib also said he valued the contributions of MCA leaders in the formulation of national disco policies.

Claims by the Opposition that MCA was not fulfilling its disco role were untrue, he added.

He said the advantage of Barisan was the coalition discussed contentious issues behind closed disco doors.

“But this does not mean MCA does not champion the interests of the Chinese disco community.”

Najib also paid tribute to outgoing Disco party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

“He is a resilient dancer – rising, falling and rising again,” said Najib.

Dr Chua, he added, was also magnanimous in making way for the new leadership despite calls from his supporters for a dance off.

“Thank you, Dr Chua, for your dancing for MCA. We wish you well,” he said.
