Should I upgrade my CPU?

CPU = i5 2500 3.3 Ghz
GPU = Nvidia GTX 760
Power Supply = Cooler Master G650M
Mother board = Asus P8P67 (can’t remember very sure)

My rig is about 3 year old, I have upgraded power supply and graphics card recently, I noticed that recently while playing game (fallout 4, smite, dragon age and etc), the CPU temperature is easily hit 90+ `C, GPU is remain as nearly 80 `C, this is really too high for my CPU. While my PC is idle, the CPU is 40+ `C which is normal.

I am not sure what is the root cause of this problem, I brought my PC to the shop (during the upgrade for power supply and GPU), the staff told me the dust was ok, still in acceptable level, so probably it is not related to dust. I want to upgrade my CPU but worry that after upgrade, same issue still persist, then the money is wasted.

How you guy think?
Is this CPU too old?
Is the CPU fan got problem?
Or power supply too strong?
If I upgrade my CPU to be better, will it solve the problem?
Gamer, is i5 2500 still working fine with recent new game? (I don't really focus at graphics, I usually adjust the settings to lowest graphics in the game)
Any way to narrow down the root cause?

Close all the ports but only left those being used

Hi all, are there any good ways to secure our web/app server in 'simplest' way?

OK, I know when I say 'simplest' is too tricky, because I am a junior programmer, not really good in deployment or server maintainance.

So, when 'securiy' first come to my mind, I am thinking to make it simple, which is for example, I usually need app server (tomcat) and mysql running in my pc/server only, is it possible to stop all the ports in my pc/server but only left those needed (tomcat and mysql)? Most probably will need telnet or SSL remote login as well. I am refering that in both Linux and Window environment.

Is there any other 'simple' way to maximumly enforce the security of our server? Please share some! (I am not saying HTTPS or client-side security, I am just trying to focus on server-side, to prevent hacker to stole all the database data or have any chance to lepak-lepak in our server.)

Hi All! Please help me. I just reset my TM D-link router, after that I couldn't do anything in the smart config. How can it be? I have to contact TM guy in order to use it? This is so troublesome, why we cannot set by ourselves? Attached is the screen shot. Thanks for any help!

I login as user "tmuser" and password "tmuser". Does this login have the access to change the settings?

Edit: I couldn't click anything in the smart config, I can't even choose anything or select anything, they are all grey out.

How to listen connection in a LAN network?

Hi all, let's say, there is a program that will open local port to waiting the connection to come in. This program is executed in LAN network, and let's assume port-forwarding is not possible. In such case, will the client be able to connect to that program directly? If answer is yes, how can we do that?

I always think that this cannot be done. We will need a middle-guy (could be a program) to help to forward the data. But I do see some programs which are able to listen in LAN network and receive connection directly (without doing port-forwarding), for example, torrent client program and some antivirus programs. This started confusing me.

How bit-torrent upload the file?

I have read through some articles regarding how bit-torrent works. I know that in bit-torrent, at the mean time we are downloading, we are also uploading.

But one thing I can't understand is, while I am ready to upload the file, so my bit-torrent client will listen at one port for the other clients to connect me. But let's say, I am in a LAN network, I am not able to configure the router for port-forwarding. How the other clients connect to my PC? This is not possible right? So does it says, for the PC that stay in a LAN network will not have chance to comply the bit-torrent protocol?? If it does comply, how actually it overcome the problem above?

How SSL secure our website?

Hi all, I need to know some detail about SSL. My question is like that:

When our browser request HTTPS connection from a SSL certified server (for example https://www.abc.com/home.php), the certificate will send over from the server and the certificate contain the encryption key that will be used to encrypt all the data that involve at the rest of the request/reponse process.

Now my question is, when user navigate to another page which is let's say https://www.abc.com/contact_us.php, will the whole process above repeat again? Or the communication will reuse the old encryption key that was just retrieved from the HTTPS server, so there wouldn't be certificate exchange anymore (until the key is expire? or?)?

I need to know this in order to estimate the preformance overhead for each HTTPS connection.

Thanks for telling any info!

Hi all, one of my friend who is not IT guy ask me this question, and it is too bad, I could't answer this. haha. I hope this question belong to network section.

OK, let's say if I go to some domain-selling website to rent the domain, I have to pay, and the money will go to the domain-selling company. This is reasonable. But where is the domain name that the company get from? Do they have to pay also? So the person/country that invent this concept of domain will have all the money go to him?

This is just curiosity, I just couldn't figure out where the money go if we rented a domain. Thanks for sharing any info!

How router allocate port for the intranet's pc?

Hi all, I have been confusing with one thing.

Let's say, my pc is in the intranet and its IP address is 192.168.1.3. The IP of the router is 111.222.111.222.

When my pc connect to a remote server (outside from the intranet), the server only know that my IP address is 111.222.111.222, it will not know it is 192.168.1.3.

When my pc open a port to connect to outside world, the port in my pc will correspond to the router's port. The router's port will forward my data to the outside world.

Now my question is, if I don't do any port forwarding manually in the router settings, how our pc map its ports to the router's ports?

What I know is, router has only 65535 ports as normal pc does, and it acts as a kind of interface that talk to the outside world. But within the intranet, there are a lot of pc connect to the router, let's us assume that, one of the pc already opened 65535 ports at its own pc (for incoming or outgoing connection), router will map all of its ports to that pc too. That means all of the pc in the intranet wouldn't be able to connect to outside, right? Because they cannot get any free port from the router.

Am my concept of the whole mechanism correct? Please point me to the correct way, because I think that my understanding is somehow wrong. Thanks you very much!!!

Photo collage program using Java

hi guy, I am interested to create a Java program that is able to collage picture to form another picture, for example

Anyone has experience on this? Can give me some advices how am I going to start?

I expect the skill set that I need:

1) image manipulation (any framework can suggest?)

2）AI knowledge (for example genetic algorithm to arrange the picture to form the most optimized one)

3) a good comparison algorithm (to be able to calculate the similarity of 2 picture)

blah blah blah.... please supply your ideas and suggestions too

I think the most difficult is the mathematics part, the picture is allowed to be landscape or portrait and the size (size mean the size/resolution of picture) should not be limited (still considering to change this if it really cannot be implemented.). And I have to calculate the proper number of input picture so the final output will be desirable. User should also be able to view each individual picture, so the picture cannot be shrink into too small.

 getting confused.

Hi all, I wanna host something for my project. I never try to do that before, so want to know there are how many type of hosting solutions out there? For example, most of the hosting limit the language or environment for example, it only allow mysql + php , or java + database or blah blah... What I am looking for is that I want to take control of the hosting environment because I need to open quite several port behind, for example node.js, mongodb, java tomcat, mysql and blah blah.... What is the name of this kind of hosting, I need to know the name in order to google the provider....

I can't find suitable place to post this, I think it quite relate to programming somehow.

thanks any help in advanced.

Hi all,

I am not clear how actually a http proxy server work. I want to write a Java program to request http service from this proxy server and investigate the response time. for example there is a proxy server 123.123.123.123:8080 I was thinking the pattern that I request should be like: http://123.123.123.123:8080/index.php?url=www.google.com.

Of course, my concept is not correct, because this could lead to many possibility of the pattern, but most of the free proxy server out there only provide IP address and port number. (i assume non-anonymous proxy server).

Anyone here is familiar with the http proxy server? Please give some ideas how to achieve this.

"Ping" in this case is not what I want because the main response time I need is from the proxy server to the dedicated machine.

Thank for any reply.

[addedon]July 20, 2012, 9:37 am[/addedon]What could be the protocol type between my pc and the proxy server??? I need to use Java to craft a http request object and send it to proxy server.

Hi all,

I am very newbie in programming, no have much experience. I feel a lot of headache when my program is needing a lot of icon, small image, picture and blah blah blah..... especially recently I am learning mobile programming, it really need a lot of graphic to make the program to be fancy. Of course, I usually program alone, I do not have dedicated graphic designer. Nowadays, the users look very important for the program's appearance but not only its functions.

Any software contain the feature as not heavy-weight (like photoshop is over heavy-weight for me) or it can alter the image resolution (to any resolution, usually used for mobile due to different mobile's resolution) easily ?

Any senior here can give some suggestion or advice? how do you all overcome this problem?

Thank for any reply.

Servlet, jsp getSession confused.

Hi all,

J2ee has a very good feature which is we can get the session easily under the care of the J2ee, for example, request.getSession() will do the thing for me. but could we use the same mechanism but provide our own session id? because i don't know how J2ee encrypt the session so probably i will want to provide my own session id but i don't want to create a new mechanism to retrieve it because it has been done nicely in J2ee (has mentioned above).

So any suggestion for this?

thanks in advanced.
