why people want to showoff salary?

I have a friend, he's working in small firm and the pay he gets considered OK....like at the mid range of RM3K++
From the conversations with him, he likes to mention about his salary, keeps touching about his pay, then he likes to inflate his salary, saying that he gets like 4K++ including allowance whatsoever etc...

I didn't disclose my salary to him lah but he somehow can guess mine is a abit higher than his...i don't know whether this is inferiority complex or what lah, he got a 3rd class degree from an unknown foreign sch, yet so choosy about his job and waited for so long to get the "right pay"... is it because of that he likes showing off his salary so scared of others looking down on him?

To me, salary is a very personal thing...I won't tell my friends how much i get unless I'm pressured I'll be telling a vague range, usually lower than the actual one.

Shortlisted

I've been to an interview a couple weeks ago and told that there'd be a second interview if successful. No news after weeks so I followed up with them and they told me that I've been shortlisted for the next round of interview but they haven't scheduled yet.

I have not received any news for next interview since follow-up. (1 week ago). How could this happen? What should I do besides waiting for them?

How useful is pursuing CFA?

Hi, currently I'm doing my CFA with 2 more levels to clear. Want to ask opinions from experienced people here.

I'm currently working in banking industry operations line, but I'm very interested to join investment research either as a sell-side or buy-side analyst. However, I've been to a few unsuccessful interviews since the companies say that I do not have relevant experience.

Been changing a few jobs in 2 years and quite tired of that. Have been sorting out what I want to do in future. Here are the options I am thinking:

1) Continuing CFA and finish that while stick with my current job/line for 2 years (or after finish CFA).
Pro: no need to job-hunt, which is tiring.
Con: current job not giving me relevant skills. by the time I finish exams, need to start over from bottom again (I might be too old).

2) Continuing CFA while pursuing a relevant job.
Pro: might get to work on what I'm interested earlier.
Con: Very hard to get. Since I'm average academically and I've been called job-hopper due to my CV.

3) Forget about switching line and CFA for now and appreciate what i have.
Pro: No distraction to my work. No need to pay expensive exam fees
Con: Stuck in current job which i really don't want it to be my set career path

I know it's hard to get one's dream job and maybe there's no such thing in reality. There are ppl ridiculing my pursuit and telling me to be grateful of what I have. I am confused. Need some advice.

how to explain during interview

I have 3 jobs on my CV and all of them are less than 1 year stint. All of them are from dissimilar role but in same industry. How'd i justify this to my future interviewers?

how to stay positive?

My job currently is paying me ok, considering my level. The thing is, I do not like what i am doing now. Tasks are very routine, with not much room for improvement. Looking at the surface, I work in a big corp with good name, but i know there would be limited growth for me. Much time is spent on non-value added tasks, to satisfy bosses across hierarchy, as a tool for the bosses to play office politics and for others to hide their incompetency. Somehow, this is the only way for small potato like me to survive in this organisation. Is not that nothing to learn, but not so much to add to skills/knowledge since most of the high-level people are incompetent but experienced and like to point fingers.

What I am pursuing is very much different from what I'm currently doing now, and it is very difficult to get. What I'm worrying is, I will never get there and forced to stay with my current role or go somewhere else to work in similar capacity and stuck in the same dilemma later on. Staying in this kind of place just accumulates my negativity as time goes by, people pls give motivation to me....
salary and hierarchy in big 4?

i notice there are a lot of big 4 threads and a lot of people working in one of those 4. I tried to search other threads discussing about the salary but salary info for mid-level auditors not found. Anyone wants to share how's the corporate ladder of big 4? Eg starting salary for a fresh grad, how long it takes for a typical person to reach senior/manager/partner (if stay in audit firm) and salary range at each level?

Anyone elaborates on this:

Fresh Grad (RM 2,700 - RM2,900, it takes 1 to 2 years to reach senior)

Senior (RM XXXX - RM XXXX, X to X years to reach manager)

and so on

how to work with a boss

It just happens that I have a boss who is

1) obsessed in nit-picking
2) inefficient and making staff look so as well (because of #1)
3) incompetent
4) a b**** and enjoying b****ing about people
5) when things go wrong, avoid responsibilities by blaming staff in front of big boss
6) due to #3, likes to do "little things" and instructed staff to do "little things" to impress big boss.

Advices needed. Some more the boss is a typical politicker who is sweet, sexy, well-groomed in appearance.

How to deal with this kind of boss? sure sifus/experts here encounter such people before.
