All 4 Malaysian Mobile Carriers are Terrible

This is from a foreigner point of view based on real life experiences.

In the last 4 days, I tried 4 different mobile carriers (Maxis, U Mobile, DiGi, Celcom)

All are prepaid SIMs except DiGi.

How I tested:
Use one SIM each day on my Galaxy S II and surfed the web from morning until midnight in various places from my apartment in Mont Kiara, to client office in Section 19 PJ, and hanging out in key areas like Amcorp, Chinatown, KLCC, Wangsa Walk.

What I've found:

1st day - Maxis - Fast, but not stable, never lost signal of course but I often lost data connection, causing errors in browser/app.

Bottom line is, for broadband internet and iPad package, they redirect you to their dumb green portal each time a session is started which is utterly annoying. This doesn't happen on their mobile internet package, however this package is expensive compared to the former ones (broadband and iPad)

2nd day - U Mobile - Fast, I dare to say it's on par with Maxis in terms of speed, but better, only occasional data connection loss while on the go, less often data disconnection than Maxis.

Bottom line is, coverage is very poor, especially underground, for example in all Kelana Jaya LRT underground stations from Masjid Jamek until Ampang Park, got no coverage at all, had to roam on Celcom network which cost me 0.05 per MB, a big letdown.

3rd day - DiGi - Very stable from morning until midnight, in every place I went I could surf the web without problems.

Bottom line is, certainly slower than Maxis and U Mobile, and this is a postpaid one which should be faster than prepaid packages (prepaid DiGi must be even slower), their prepaid packages are horrible, I'd say DiGi is the perfect one to get if only they had Discover package for prepaid SIMs.

4th day - Celcom - Instanet, coverage is good, on par with Maxis, wherever I went, got at least 3G.

Bottom line is, very terrible data connection... from morning till midnight, wherever I went from Mont Kiara, PJ, KL Sentral, to Sri Rampai, very poor and damn slow, tested with Speedtest serveral times got 0.1, in most places, mybrowser couldn't even finish loading many websites I surfed including Celcom official site itself! It felt unbelievable so after got back home, I tried again using modem and PC, still got horrible connection, even though signal is HSDPA full bar.

Of all these SIMs I got very disappointed with Celcom, I thought that Maxis sucked big time already until I tried Celcom!

DiGi is the obvious one for me, but I want prepaid SIM, because I could be leaving Malaysia anytime
