Learning Chinese Apps

Hey, I was wondering if any of you guys could recommend some nice iPhone/iPad apps for learning Chinese?

My friend introduced me to Word Tracer app where you can trace the Chinese character and it gives you the sound+meaning. It has been working great for me so far especially since the app trains my Chinese writing capabilities also gives me a list of common usages. But, the app is a niche that does not allow me to learn whole Chinese sentences (more useful).

So does anyone have any recommendations?

What is so interesting about Law?

As stated above.. what is so fascinating about the subject 'Law' to you? Not talking about why you wanna become a lawyer yeah..

More like.. let's say for me.. Law may control and govern us all as well as our actions, but it's interesting to see what kind of loopholes people can come up with etc.. and get away with certain things. For example was Karpal Singh's famous 'hang till death' situation.

Just curious what you guys think about it.. Also mods.. if you think this belongs in kopitiam, go ahead and move it. Thanks!

A-level subjects

I'm actually still thinking what subjects to take next year. and I have narrowed them down to 2 choices:

a) maths, physics, econs, further maths

b) maths, psychology, econs, literature in english

Those are the only 2 choices I'm looking at because I will be doing cambridge board, and these are the possible combinations I may take up. As you can see one is science stream and the other is totally arts. In future, I would most likely pursue a career in business/finance/econs line.. so actually the sciences aren't really necessary for me. reason why I would think of choosing physics in choice A is because I'm planning on taking physics for my SATs.

Questions:
1) How important is further maths? How useful isit? the college counsellor advised us not to take further maths because students will struggle and life will be hard.. lol!
But let's say I can take it and I won't slack, just wondering how useful would it be in university?

2) Is physics in A levels interesting?I don't mind studying sciences, I just know i won't take them up as a career. But if I'm just taking physics for the sake of SATs when I can just selfstudy or take tuition outside.. it seems quite irrelevant and irrational. waste of my time.

3) How useful are the subjects psychology and literature in english for A levels? are they interesting?

Thanks.

SAT II physics

how hard is the SAT II Physics? I don't think SPM physics is enough to answer the questions in there. I heard that the syllabus goes deeper into A level physics. has anyone taken physics for SATII before? did u guys take it while studying another pre-u course related to the subject test u were taking? or is it possible to get tuition outside just for the sake of taking a science subject test in SATII? because I'm planning to drop all my sciences in pre-u next year.

the only reason I want to take SATII physics is to be safe during uni applications in US. I have read a few uni websites and some need any 2 subject tests. Some need 1 maths and 1 science. Some need 2 tests from different categories of tests. Uni of Chicago doesn't even need subject tests. All require applicants to take the SAT I though. I haven't really chosen which university I would like to apply to. But if I take 1 maths and 1 science I will be able to fulfill any university's requirements, so I might as well take either Physics or Chem as a subject test.

Thanks.

I know the main intake is for fall in September. I would like to enquire about the Spring(January) intake. do all unis have the spring intake? or just some? does anybody know which unis do NOT have Spring intake? thanks a lot... coz the uni websites don't seem to be of much help. most don't state.
things to do in 'gap months'

For those of you who don't know what is a gap year, it is a duration of 1 year where people take time off studies to do anything they want to do in their life, for example travelling, volunteering, getting a job etcetc. People mostly take a gap year after SPM/high school or after college/before entering universities.

I'm interested in gathering more info on things I can do during my 'gap months' after SPM. here are the options I have gathered:

-OBS
-get a job
-take up kickboxing/a new sport
-learn a new language/skill
-travelling (but no money... )
-student exchange program (again.. too expensive)
-volunteering

So these are my few options.. and I was wondering if you guys have anything else to add, or any additional info on trips/programs/camps/workshops or any interesting activities to share here.. For example, any of you guys know how much it will cost to scale Mount KK? any good sites that deal in RM? or maybe you guys can just tell me what ur interesting hobbies are, so I can try them out Cheers!

Songs for Performance

Hey there! I'm looking for some song suggestions for my school's Sport's Day Gymrama. It's an inter-house competition held annually. This year my house(green) may be doing our theme which is army-style. Means maybe we have ppl carrying toy rifles/long guns and guys holding big army flags etcetc.. and we do synchronized movements together..

Does anyone have any suggestions for songs? we are allowed to edit or cut the songs.. so maybe we can use a cool intro and follow up with something more upbeat and catchy, but the beat must be clear and consistent so we can plan the movements more easily.. Oh and, songs with lyrics are not allowed. If maybe 1 or 2 words should be ok la.. but not like those normal hiphop songs with a lot of rap/lyrics..

Any suggestions would be helpful.. Thanks!

Gymrama

ok 1st of all I really don't know the suitable place to post this.. lol.. but this seemed like the best fit besides just throwing it into kopitiam! but if mods think it should be somewhere else.. pls move it =) thx!

well for those who don't know what is gymrama.. it's more like a big group of ppl(looks nicer) doing certain moves tgt on a field/stage, performance kind of thing. Mostly the moves are choreographed in synchronization.. sometimes the group is split into smaller groups to do different variations while the music is playing. Music is normally upbeat, catchy, semangat-ed that kinda thing.. haha

I really dunno how to explain properly.. but to anyone who understand what I'm saying.. pls do help me out here..

well thing is my school has Gymrama during Sports day, and we obviously wanna win. 1 of the major winning factors I found out from previous years seeing gymramas in my school, were that the best props were most likely to win..

So I'm here to ask u guys for suggestions.. Last year a house used umbrellas as props. it was really nice coz when u open the umbrllas up to twirl, they're really a beautiful lot to look at =P 2 years before another house used cloth/flags that they had to twist/twirl and control using their hands. not the kind that u can hold the stick and wave around..

The more common props used would probably be sticks, flags, poles.

I was wondering if anyone has any other contributions to make to the list? haha =) I need to find something special and different than just the usual. something that gives a 'wow' factor like umbrellas. when the gymrama-ians open their umbreallas halfway thru the music, suddenly everyone cheers and claps! we need something like that to impress the judges haha.. thx all!

btw: any ideas on good moves would be great too! =)
