so wats the reason of selling toner catridges instead of refills

inkjets refills are so popular now...shouldn't toner refills be made available??
I found a few international sites selling toner refills too. but shipment usually cost a bomb

print quality affects both inkjets and laser toners..to my knowledge

3com router takes really long to SYNC

Salvaged fridge for cooling mod

The intro maybe long... u can skip it if u want

The intro
So...i salvaged an old fridge, it originated from my dad's restaurant where the fridge was rusted quite seriously. one day it starts tripping the power, due to the old age of the fridge he decided not to call the technician instead

I requested those guys from the fridge repairing shop to send that old fridge to my house while they bring in the new fridge. By the way that old crap was a domestic fridge, i din took a pic of it as i the chances of breaking one of those old copper tubings. It even lost its wiring diagram, great...now i gotta find out which is which by testing it manually.

Found out that the defrosting timer was the culprit, wired things up directly to the mains...moment of truth........"zeeenng"....the compressor shook a lil....OMG...its still working.
Went to the front, strip of the alu cover plate.....the cooling coil was giving a fog effect like those cryo tanks but way less in size and volume .
Thats when my imagination flew sky high

Heres what i've done so far,
stripped the cooling system out, easy?? no, the catch is strip it off its casing or wateva u call it without puncturing the tubes
(Theres a 3 star rating on the fridge door, dunno wth izit though)

Attach it upright to my window's iron rods(hot side outside my room)
Cut some corners of the glass for the cooling coil's tubing with a glass cutter
Made a box out of polystyrene to house the cooling coil
Fixed pipes to the box
Installed a centrifugal aka blower fan(picked up for RM40 from a car AC technician from his pile of AC junks)

Heres the completed poly box, insulated the copper tubes with nitrile foam tube, 80mm pvc pipe attached along with the blower fan.

Tht fan is really strong at full force...i have difficulty opening my eyes when direct to my face during testing.
(this is a stupid way to test a blower, it could pick up a lose screw or rock or should the blades give up and shatter. it would launch it straight to my face)
During the cleaning, i noticed the carbon brushes are almost worn out. Got myself a pair of new carbon brush for RM10

For those who want to get replacement brushes
They have most shapes and sizes, else fails, they can reshape/resize one to the exact match on the spot, Soldering service provided too.
Great Eastern Carbon, located at jln loke yew. Next to the cemetary. If u live outside kl, u can PM me
I notice someone's Dremel is dead due to a worn out carbon brush

3 speed fan controller, off..slow...medium...full.
The 80mm pipe was cut offed at the top and siliconed to the base of the poly box, i did this to duplicate as much as possible to the way it cools in the fridge, drawing air at the bottom while a fan is at the top sucking. Manufacturer have reasons of doing so...so its best to keep it the way it was

The piping....top cold air, bottom hot air. Class O 80MM PVC pipe, RM28/piece so far used up oni 1, gonna need 30ft more
Its cheaper to buy one whole piece than buying seperate. I wonder how low can i bring the air temp before the pipe starts condensing lots of water. Sry bout the cacings, not tied up yet

The entire rig is gonna be covered up in poly as well to keep the room's heat out and prevent condensation. Im planning to lay a layer of alu foil on the inside of the poly to create a farraday cage and to prevent statics, i think the poly is pretty good at getting static build up.
But i'll not cool it past dewpoint, the coldest i'll planned to go its 8'C cause HDD min temp is 5'C.
PSU is gonna be excluded from the luxury of air-cond cooling
ROMs, yes. a large block of poly will be attached to the tray. it'll be shaped to taper in from outside in with matching shape on the faceplate to limit thermal exchange, moisture and cold air flowing out.

The cold air its gonna come in in between the psu and router

As far as i reached now, the exhaust or suction hole, a pipe will be attached to the bottom. The hole was made by drilling a ring of holes and a gentle nudging with a chipper. reason it was made this way was to make the sharp pin like ends so that when i push the pipe in, it'll grip the pipe, pulling it back out will just make the pins dig deeper into the pipe. it'll save a lot of work to attach the pipe to the casing, just push in, and it'll stay there.

Your helpful comments are needed as i might be heading for some mistakes i yet to know. Such as galvanic corrosion i din thought of, the cooling coils has some plastic wrapper around the copper, while fins are alu, the copper will sooner or later corrode the fins, counter measures taken though

Where to buy CAT 5e cable? in KL

As title states, where could i get it? Jln Pasar or LYP have it?
i mean those place that sell them from a roll. not those standard 5m meter sold in packs. How much per meter? The price of a female jack?

i have seen them in use in offices. a long Cat 5e cable runs from the main hub inside a plastic tube then ends with a female ethernet jack. Then a normal 5m cable would usually link it to the NIC.

I need them for my maxis 3G modem actually. i have to move it near the window or to the window of my house's second storey. Placing on top my pc table simply couldn't get the good speed, probably too much inteference.

TqTq.

Izit possible to cause windows corruption due to mobo failure?

I have my blardy old rig which is abt 8 yrs old. currently oni using it for bt and saves power as well due to its low spec.

Its been deteriorating maybe due to my overclocking loooooong time ago
Heres the crap:
gigabyte 81845gvm-rz mobo(prime suspect)
cap ayam 250w psu(came with the set when i bougth it)
56k pci modem
floppy drive

Heres wat i replace on the rig(in other words new hardware)
maxtor 80gb ata
celeron d 2.26ghz s478
2x d-link NICs
LG cd-rw...from my 2nd rig..works fine.

POST all ok.
tested ram and hdd 1 or 2 months ago.
PSU has been supplying a fluactuating voltage even since i got it.getting new cap ayam tomolo...my current cap ayam tecom is supplying fairly lil voltage fluactuation.

This crap has been giving me startup problems a long time...at random...after a restart or turned off...it can't load the OS and it auto restarts infinitely
now its worst case scenario....can't even load the most basic diagnostic tools like memtest 86 which shud work regardless of OS status.
system also keeps restarting at OS loading part if left to boot.
the weird part is the entire windows installation went without any problems...oni happens after a restart

What could be my problem? my fuggin mobo? tried swapping rams..no joy as well.

Izit possible for the kvm switch(D-link DKVM-2K) to have such catastrophic effect on my rig? NO??

Linksys AM300=weak modem

Im using Linksys AM300 Annex A. 24/7 on..and bt.
But after sometime bout a month+.....it starts to hang..meaning stop responding...
DSL and Ethernet light on, but internet no. Even the modem config page is inaccesible.
I have to reboot the modem(powering on/off) to make my modem work again.
I even attached a cooler on top to cool it off. I think unstable tmnet's line oso contributed partly to my modem hang.
I thought linksys are reliable....anyone experienced this be4?

Additional info...i always have to forward periodically my modem port to get my bt to run smoothly...even the settings are all correct but i have to click save settings to make it forward the port properly.

Updates:
such an old thread, its alive

alrite, after so many dog years, my conclusion is that this modem is has firmware issues. latest firmware seems to make it acceptable.
don't expect much though. best modem i've used so far is 3com until it got killed by Lord Zeus.
I have long terminated my streamyx. now i'm using izzinet. kyocera modem. made in japan quality.
Home networking big headache

All right so direct to the point to avoid wasting each others time.

I have 2 PCs and theres 2 LAN on each of it. Using Linksys AM300 as the modem. My plans was to have a direct connection from my modem to each pc as theres an ethernet port and a USB port which is recognized as lan oso once installed.

And having the remaining 1 lan port on each pc connected to a switch specifically for File and Printer sharing purpose. The reason behind it was the switch(SMC 8 port EZ switch, Model SMCFS8) was creating a bottleneck effect on my internet when i tried put internet for my 2 pcs through tht switch.

Now the problem. PC1 is working pretty fine but my PC2 with similar configuration doesn't work and tht goes along with File and Printer sharing.

With the USB oni on PC2 it works.Once i have both connection(aka LAN) enabled, they seemed to conflict and not able to connect to the internet and sharing. I think the problem might originate during the home network configuration wizard. In PC2, the wizard skipped the select the LAN for internet connection part. And jump straight to select the best phrase tht describes ur network configuration part. Thus windows did not know which lan is the internet connection. Jus a guess. so im looking for advice to configure my PC2.
Tried Magic Network, and its still the same.

Heres a more simplified version of my configuration.
Legend: "===" and "|||" is connection, "....." is blank/jus ignore it

Modem==>Ethernet==>PC1's LAN A
|.......................................|
|.......................................|=>LAN B->Switch<=|
|.......................................................................|Specifically for sharing
|.......................................................................|
|..................................|=>LAN B==========|
|..................................|
|==>USB--->PC2(as LAN A)

FYI, Both pcs are on WinXP Pro. Both PCs have been configured using Windows built-in wizard with similar Workgroup. Windows firewall is off on all connections. Norton Internet Security 2005(yeah i noe its shyti) with both LAN B's IP range set into allowed in personal firewall.
And a BIG Thank you for ur patience reading this

Worklog:Mega ATX

Ok this is my first major case mod...and 1st topic posted here.
Basically this casing is gonna be a double decker case, a steel exso-skeleton to support the stock structure. The stock ATX structure is gonna be stripped to the basics and mounted into the steel skeleton and will be anchored to the walls to prevent my pc from flying away with the burglars. Acrylic will be mounted outside to replace the panels. A custom central water cooling for 2 cpus utilizing a high capacity pump with a car's radiator and if my financial permits, i'll purchase extra 12cm radiators to be mounted inside the case to cool the mobo and my case will be sealed airtight to keep dust free.
PS:Im the technical type, not the designer type, i dun expect i'll be coming up wit an artistic look. But U guys are there to give me a lil artistic ideas rite?

Plans:
1) Strip old case to basics then frabicate a steel exso-skeleton.

2) Spray painting with paint and mount glass and acrylic

3) Custom water-cooling mod, cable management and mobo installation

4) UV light mods, extra radiators installation and airtight sealling

5) Termo-sensors installation and CPU torture test

Today, i jus got a FREEBIE from the pc shop. Old ATX case though but nvm, i can chop it wit all my heart and feel no sorrow for it. Pics will be uplaoded tonite or tomolo cuz my digi cam ran out of batteries .Tomolo i'l start stripping the case to get measurements so tht i know how much steel i would need.
