Sony announce two tables to take on the iPad~!

Sony has just unveiled two tablets to take on the iPad 2. The two models will be known as the Sony S1 and Sony S2; both will run Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

The S1 is aimed squarely at the iPad form factor and comes with a 9.4-inch screen. It will feature a Tegra 2 processor and will have 3G/4G cellular data and WiFi. An IR (infra-red) port is included as standard, to control Sony’s line of Bravia televisions. Sony’s Playstation Network will also be accessible.

The S2 is the interesting model as the form factor is totally different to anything we have seen before. It has two folding 5.5-inch screens that can work together or independently.

Not many more details are available at this stage as Sony say specifications are subject to change. The two models are slated for a release in the fall of this year.

The Importance of Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important parts of photography, after all, it is what makes up a photograph. A real photographer will always take light into account. Making sure there is plenty on a subject and enough to expose a film well.

Having a well lit subject is what most photographers aim for, this can be achieved by using several different light sources. Some ways of doing this are:

Reflectors
A reflective surface used to reflect light onto the darker side of a subject. Reflectors are simple and cheap to make. Just use tin foil and wrap it around some cardboard of something. When taking macro or studio pictures, having reflectors can turn a god picture into a great picture. The idea is to use them with a light source such as the sun or a studio light and reflect light that is going past a subject back up onto it.

Flash
A direct flash can make your subject too light and give it a 2D effect which makes it stand out from the background and seem flat. However, this is not the only way to use a flash. You can turn your flash and bounce it off a wall or surface. This side on flash can be a very desirable effect that can bring out subtle shapes such as the lines on someone’s face.

Lamp or Light
Even just a regular lamp is a great tool when shooting somewhere dark, it can flood your subject with the light you desperately need. A soft bulb will probably be better. Another option is to use two lamps or a reflector to give your subject better overall lighting.

The Sun
When it comes to the sun you just have to work with what you have. Try to get a subject well lit, but not in the direct sunlight. On a very sunny day, having your subject in the shade should be fine. On a day when the sun is less bright it may be alright to have your subject in direct sunlight. Overcast or cloudy days are great for photography because everything is evenly lit.

3D TV: What to Look For

When shopping for a 3D-capable TV, there are a few things you need to understand:

1. 3D televisions are simply top-of-the-line HDTVs that have the capability of displaying three-dimensional images. Buying a 3D-capable TV does not mean that you will be watching 3D programming 24 hours a day. The 3D TV feature can be turned on and off.

2. You still need to wear glasses to see the effect. However, the glasses you need for these TVs are nothing like the red and blue cellophane glasses of days gone by. TV manufacturers have adopted high-tech active shutter 3D glasses that rapidly and imperceptibly open and close a shutter over the left and right eyes in synchronization with the images being sent from the TV. Without the glasses, you will see only a blurry, unwatchable image.

3. These glasses are not cheap and will not work with every 3D TV. In other words, if you were to buy our best reviewed Panasonic TC-P54VT25, its active shutter glasses would not work with your friend's LG 55LX9500.

4. Currently the availability of 3D TV content is limited. ESPN has recently made some sporting events available on its newly launched ESPN 3D channel. Discovery also plans on launching its own 3D network, but currently there is not much programming available. In addition, there are only a handful of 3D DVDs available and those require that you play them on a 3D Blu-ray player that is compatible with your TV and your active shutter glasses. Some of the TVs reviewed here, like the Sony XBR-60LX900 include up-conversion so you can watch regular 2D programming in 3D with the active shutter glasses.

5. The 3D TV technology included with HDTVs is very impressive and very new. This means that it will only get better and there will eventually be a lot more content available.
