Servicing Camera

I'm about to service my old Canon 400D. Before I send this camera to the shop, what are the thing that i need to consider on servicing this camera? what need to be check. And one more thing why is the image quality is not as good as when the camera is new. The sharpness of the picture is reducing. Is it related to the sensor inside the camera? Or the lens it self is the problem? Can this problem be solve by sending it to the canon service centre to be service.
