CFEEdit tool Download
2. Use CFEEdit to edit the WS880_Trans.Bin extract from WS880 CFE file
4. Modify the following, you may brick your device if you don't modify it correctly
et0macaddr = <Your WS880 Mac address stated at the back of the router>
secret_code = <WLAN KEY stated at the back of the router >
lan_ipaddr = 192.168.1.1 -> the ip address of the router after reboot
5. Recommend to use IE to access router management page

Unlock and Flash Procedure

1. Unplug the power cable from router
2. Hold on the reset key while plug in the power cable, hold the reset key for 20 secs then release
3. The router will boot the emergency upgrade page
4. Login to the 192.168.1.1 and flash the WS880_Trans.Bin file that you have modified
5. The router will reboot again, wait for few minutes, it will boot to CFE miniWeb Server page
6. Once it is booted to CFE miniWeb Server page, you may flash your favorite firmware

Available 3rd party Firmware

Asuswrt-Merlin Asuswrt-Merlin Download Choose WS880_*.zip
AdvancedTomato Advanced Tomato

Since it is broadcom chipset, it is supported by ASUSWRT and Tomato firmware, I managed to flash the firmware to ASUSWRT-MERLIN, and it detected WS880 as AC68U
[attachmentid=7046142]

It even supports UNIFI and Maxis broadband out of the box
[attachmentid=7046151]

The speed is awesome, I can get full speed of UNIFI 30Mbps even I sit at the far corner of 1st floor while my router is sitting at the ground floor living room

This router is no longer available at Lowyat, possibly not even available in Malaysia.

Convert Blu-Ray Movies to MKV

Since there are few forumers asking me how to rip the blu-ray movies to MKV, I'm here to write a simple guide for how to rip blu-ray movies and convert it to a MKV (Matroska MultiMedia Container)

Background

MKV is a opensource multimedia container, which means it is a container to hold videos, audios, subtitles, charters in one file.

Video can be H.264 codec, VC codec, MPEG2 codec or others
Audio can be DTS MA HD, Dolby True HD, LPCM, etc

It is just like m2ts, a standard container that is used by blu-ray.

Why need to convert to MKV?

It's simple to manage your movies, a single file contains video, audio, subtitles and charters.
Reduce movie file size, because you extract only the main movie, the MKV size is greatly reduce, a 45GB BD sometimes can be reduced to 25GB without any quality lost.
Broad support by various media players, and yet it is open source, so there are many free tools to create MKV file

How to convert blu-ray format to MKV?

There are basically two methods

1. A all-in-one tool that can rip and convert blu-ray movie to a single MKV file

There are few tools such as DVDFab, MakeMKV. I would recommend to use MakeMKV as it is currently still a free app, and it is quite reliable and yield satisfactory results

2. Remux tools to extract from m2ts and create MKV

Tools such as AnyDVD HD, bdinfo, tsMuxeR, MKVToolnix

Method 1 - MakeMKV

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

MakeMKV is built in blu-ray decryption, ripping and automatically convert to MKV without changing video and audio codec, hence, quality is ensured. download here

To use makemkv, your source must be BDROM/DVD, it can be physical or virtual.

MakeMKV detects the blu-ray and ready to rip it

MakeMKV analysis the blu-ray structures and ready to convert the movies to MKV format, change the output folder and hit the hard disk icon and you are good to go. depends on your BDROM speed, it varies from

Notes: if you only have BDMV folder, you still can use freeware imgburn to burn the BDMV folder to BDISO format, and use freeware Virtual CloneDrive to mount the BDISO file

Method 2 - Remuxing and merge MKV

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

This method is much more complicated and for advance user only.

You need the following softwares

Slysoft AnyDVD HD - BD on-the-fly decryption tool, commercial software

BDInfo - Parsing BD Structures tools

tsMuxeR - Demux and remux tool

MKVToolnix - Merge mutilple video and audio codec to MKV file

1. Run AnyDVD HD in the background to on-the-fly decrypting blu-ray protection, otherwise, you won't be able to extract video/audio from m2ts file
2. Use BDinfo to parse your BDMV folder or blu-ray disc. this determine which playlist contain the main movie, normally the biggest size is the main movie, as you can see in the picture, the playlist file 00039.mpls contains the main movie, it stream file is 00024.m2ts

3. Use tsMuxeRGui to add the 00039.mpls playlist, then you can select the video, audio and subtitle tracks that you want to extract (demux), select the option [Demux] and hit "start demux" to demux m2ts container to multple track in the destination folder

After demux, you should see there are multiple files created in the destination folder, the .vc1 is the VC1 video codec, the .dts is the DTS MA HD audio codec file, and sup is the subtitle files.

4. Now use mkvmerge GUI to merge the video, you can include the file with vc1, dts and sup extension name, and set the track properties correctly.

5. You are done.

MK Sound M series / 750 speakers

I'm interesting to get MK sound, I have auditioned it during KLIAV, feel it is fast responding, accurate and has solid bass sound speakers.

Due to my small HT room size (10' x 16'), it is difficult to put floor stand speakers/large speakers in front of my 92" HDTV screen. the MK sound speaker has small footprint and fit my requirements. but, I don't know my Denon 2310 can handle this 4ohm speakers or not.

I would like to hear comments from sifu that use/audition these speaker before. my primary usage is to watch movie, seldom listen to music. also, if anyone have other brands to recommend is very much welcome. the price tag for MK sound is kinda expensive (>14K for 5.1 set)
