BN's list of names for Sabah govt's posts given

BAGAN DATUK: Barisan Nasional (BN) has submitted the list of names for consideration as candidates to fill the posts of ministers and deputy ministers in the new Sabah state government.

Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in confirming this, said the state government had asked parties supporting the new government to present the names of their respective candidates to be considered for appointment.

"For the Sabah polls, as we are all aware, the formation of the government will be done soonest possible.

"We know that the cooperation among the various parties, including GRS (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah), is very good. In fact, I have personally contacted the new Chief Minister (Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor) and the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) to stabilise the politics in Sabah,” he told reporters after attending a briefing on the flood situation in Bagan Datuk here today.

He said this when asked to comment on Barisan's performance in the Sabah State Election on Saturday (Nov 29).

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, reiterated that the priority now was to ensure Sabah's political stability so that development could proceed, including electricity, water supply and road infrastructure.

"Most importantly, the well-being of the people and the Sabah Maju Jaya aspirations can be fully realised,” he said.

On Saturday, Ahmad Zahid said Barisan was ready to cooperate with like-minded parties to form a new state government following the 17th Sabah polls. - Bernama

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2025...iven-says-zahid

topkek [@einjahr], [@keybearer]

Way ahead of you, Anwar tells opposition parties on Sabah infrastructure issues

TUARAN: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today slammed opposition parties that claimed they could resolve Sabah’s basic infrastructure issues such as water supply within a year, if given the mandate after Saturday’s state election.

Speaking during a meet-and-greet session at the Bajau Samah Cultural Hall in Sulaman, Anwar said the federal and Sabah governments, led by Hajiji Noor, were already implementing road projects and building dams to increase the state’s water capacity.

“No need to say (that you can solve it), because the projects are already under way. By next year, this water issue will be resolved,” he said in his speech.

“Who is doing it? Both the federal and state governments. This isn’t something that will only happen if I win,” he added.

Anwar also praised Hajiji for helping to address the problems faced by the people of Sabah, saying the caretaker chief minister had never acted out of personal or family interest.

“He bothers me day and night, thinking about Sabah’s problems … about the roads, water, and electricity.

“I can’t even sleep, but I respect him because he works for the people of Sabah,” he said.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...tructure-issues

PH’s Petagas candidate will have ‘direct line’ to me if elected, says Anwar

Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Petagas, Awang Husaini Sahari, would have a “direct line” to the prime minister if elected, voters were told today.

Emphasising that representation that is aligned with the federal government will ensure faster solutions for local issues, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Petagas residents would gain from closer Putrajaya-Sabah coordination if they chose Awang Husaini as their assemblyman.

“If Awang Husaini wins in Petagas, he will have a direct line to me. The others will have to wait,” he said at a campaign stop in Petagas.

Anwar reminded voters that independent candidates would struggle to secure assistance for constituency problems.

“If an independent wins, who will he contact? These are the people’s problems – who will help?” he said.

Anwar highlighted several projects already underway in Sabah, saying they came from strong federal-state cooperation rather than election promises.

He cited the solution to the water supply woes, saying it was already being implemented.

“We have started work on the water issue. Most of Sabah’s water problems will be resolved next year. This is not an election promise – this project has already started and will be completed next year,” he said.

In the 10-cornered contest for Petagas, Awang Husaini is facing his brother Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari, who is defending the seat as an independent after not being fielded by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

Awang Ahmad won the seat for Warisan in 2020 with a narrow majority of 261 votes in a six-cornered fight. He later defected to Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah.

The others in the race are Dr Afifi Saif (Perikatan Nasional), Jason Lee (Upko), Uda Sulai (Warisan), Annita Shiela F Among (STAR), Adelaide Cornelius (KDM), Aslin Samat (Parti Impian Sabah), Sabrezani Sabdin (Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri) and independent Patrick Manius.

Awang Ahmad had previously said GRS would allow him to defend his seat, but the coalition later made way for PH to field Awang Husaini as part of an electoral pact for the Nov 29 polls.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...cted-says-anwar

Sabah polls: Local parties hold strong amid

WITH the 17th Sabah General Election just days away, voter sentiment is beginning to reveal the likely trajectory of the contest.

Former Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) Secretary‑General Mohd Ustar Abdul Ghani said a mix of national issues, domestic priorities, political affiliation, and local concerns are shaping electoral outcomes, with voting patterns strongly influenced by urban, suburban, and rural constituencies.

Gauging from the mood on the ground and recent campaigning, it seems the state’s local mainstream political parties remain firmly in contention to form the next government, contrary to earlier predictions of a national party surge.

Political observers predict that leaders of Warisan, GRS, STAR, UPKO, and UMNO are likely to retain their respective seats.

Parti Bersatu Sabah’s President, Joachim Gunsalam, however, faces stiff competition from a PKDM candidate in Kundasang, with the outcome to be confirmed on polling day.

Warisan is expected to maintain its stronghold along Sabah’s east coast and is predicted to make inroads into constituencies previously held by UMNO and GRS.

In certain Chinese-majority constituencies, Warisan appears to have gained traction, potentially capturing seats formerly held by the PH-DAP alliance.

Overall, Warisan is projected to secure 26 seats across urban, suburban, and rural areas.

Mohd Ustar told the Jesselton Times today that he expects GRS and UMNO to retain most of their existing seats, though some losses are anticipated.

In 2020, GRS won 11 constituencies and UMNO 14; current projections suggest GRS may drop to eight seats, while UMNO could fall to nine.

Analysts also anticipate a vote swing in at least 16 constituencies, particularly in the Momogun heartland, which may benefit PKDM, potentially granting it five seats.

Chinese-majority constituencies are showing shifting allegiances, with voters increasingly inclined to “join the ship,” a reference to Warisan.

Eight constituencies previously divided between DAP and PKR—six for DAP, two for PKR—are likely to see changes as campaigning concludes.

Despite these trends, 23 constituencies remain highly unpredictable.

These include Chinese-majority areas such as Api-Api, Luyang, Sri Tanjong, Elopura, and Merotai, where incumbent Saifuddin Hatta will face Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s handpicked candidate, Ruji Ubi.

Warisan will contest 14 of these volatile constituencies against GRS, PKDM, or PH. Winning at least 13 of these seats is crucial for Warisan to secure a simple majority; otherwise, a hung assembly—and potentially a unity government—looms.

Among the mainstream parties, PBS and STAR face particularly difficult prospects.

PBS, which previously won seven constituencies, is predicted to lose Tamparuli, Kiulu, and Matunggong to PKDM, with Lumadan expected to fall to Warisan.

Kundasang, Telupid, and Tandek remain uncertain, potentially going to PKDM, GRS, or UPKO. STAR, holding six seats, may retain Tambunan, but Paginatan is projected to go to PKDM and Liawan to Warisan, while Bingkor, Tulid, and Sook remain closely contested.

UPKO’s Ewon Benedick is expected to win Kadamaian, while Wilfred Madius Tangau faces a challenging contest in Tamparuli against PKDM.

The much-discussed “Black Wave” has largely failed to materialize, analysts said.

Verdon Bahanda is expected to mount a fierce contest in Tanjong Kapor against a Warisan candidate, but other predictions suggest limited success.

Ultimately, Sabahans appear determined to elect a government capable of delivering dynamic and efficient leadership over the next five years.

Whether the ideals of “Sabah for Sabahans” or “Sabah First” will resonate sufficiently with voters will only be revealed on 29 November 2025.

Current projections indicate Warisan securing 26 seats, UMNO nine, GRS eight, PKDM five, STAR one, and UPKO one.

The outcomes of 23 constituencies remain uncertain, and the final tally will determine whether a single-party majority government emerges or a coalition becomes necessary. - November 26, 2025

https://www.thevibes.com/articles/opinion/1...d-uncertainties

‘Sabah for Sabahans just a smokescreen for polls’

JOHANNESBURG: Parties riding on the “Sabah for Sabahans” sentiment in the state polls are doing so to obscure issues of governance and long-standing problems, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said that while it is fair for Sabahans to want leaders from within the state, it is equally important that they are represented by those who can genuinely serve them.

He added that strong federal–state cooperation remains crucial.

“Without commitment and determination from the central leadership, the people will continue to be burdened by unresolved issues. My main concern is the people,” he said en route to Johannesburg, South Africa, for a four-day working visit.

“Sabah rights” has become a political and emotional shorthand for efforts to address the state’s challenges and push for a local leadership free from the grip of Peninsular politics, he said in response to questions on the state polls.

The state election is an opportunity to highlight what the Federal Government has delivered for Sabah, he added/

“For the past three years, this government has taken every effort to resolve the people’s issues and bring development to Sabah. We will list down what has been achieved,” he said, citing progress on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as a key example.

To date, 13 of the 29 MA63-related claims have been classified as resolved, with nine settled under the current administration.

Anwar also pointed to the Federal Government’s efforts to expedite construction of the Sabah stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway, alongside consistent work to resolve the state’s water and electricity issues.

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2025...creen-for-polls

Two state ministerial posts likely if DAP wins all

SANDAKAN: Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe has suggested that the party could secure two ministerial positions in the next state government if it wins all eight seats it is contesting.

"The secretary-general (Anthony Loke) has already hinted that if we win all eight seats, then DAP may have the possibility of producing two ministers," he told reporters here on Monday (Nov 17).

DAP is contesting in N19 Likas (Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe), N21 Luyang (Chan Loong Wei), N22 Tanjung Aru (Datuk Chan Foong Hin), N25 Kapayan (Jannie Lasimbang), N43 Kemabong (Noorita Sual), N55 Elopura (Vivian Wong Shir Yee), N56 Tanjong Papat (Tang Szu Ching), and N69 Sri Tanjong (Philip Yap).

Phoong, who previously held the state Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship portfolio, said he was prepared to return as minister but stressed that DAP needed a stronger block of seats to push its economic priorities effectively.

He said the party’s campaign would centre on job creation, industrial development and reversing the long-standing outflow of young talent from Sandakan and other districts.

Highlighting employment data released recently, Phoong said improvements achieved during his previous tenure showed that DAP’s economic approach had delivered tangible results.

Phoong added that Sabah was set to see a coalition government after the election, and that any post-polls discussions should be driven by clear policy commitments rather than personalities.

"This is like European-style democracy. Every party enters with its agenda. You win first, then you negotiate based on policies," he said.

He said DAP’s priority remains focused on strengthening the economy, improving ports and logistics, attracting new industries and expanding job opportunities for the youth.

Phoong also urged Sandakan voters to support the party’s two young women candidates – Wong in Elopura and Tang in Tanjong Papat – describing them as dynamic and aligned with DAP’s long-term economic vision for Sabah.

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2025...ats-says-phoong

Ewon demands clarity from Loke on Sabah’s rights

KOTA KINABALU: Former Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick wants DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke to explain to the people of Sabah the eight points the federal government wants to challenge concerning Sabah’s 40% claims.

He said, according to the notice of appeal filed by the federal government, there were eight matters that it wanted to challenge following the Oct 17 Kota Kinabalu High Court decision on the 40% entitlement for Sabah.

“So I ask Loke and the federal cabinet, including the Prime Minister, to please explain to the people of Sabah, what are these eight points that the federal government wants to challenge,” he said in a video posting following Loke’s rebuttal that Ewon, who is the UPKO president, was "playing to the gallery" rather than a genuine act of bravery.

In Loke’s statement, he criticised Ewon for repeatedly alleging that the Cabinet ignored Sabah's views when, in reality, he failed to attend the very meeting called to resolve the issue.

He further questioned why Ewon did not use the Cabinet meeting to record his objections or challenge the Attorney General directly.

Ewon explained that over the past three years, he had consistently voiced his views on the 40% claim, stating that it is not the same as the compulsory federal development funding for Sabah, and that he had attended meetings on the same issues.

“As for the AGC matter, it is not the first time that the AGC has been invited to clarify and explain related issues. But what was Loke’s stand during these meetings?” he asked.

He said many Sabah Members of Parliament had also expressed similar views on this matter, but it did not seem to be a strong enough message for the federal government.

That was why Ewon decided to quit the cabinet and later bring Upko out of the Pakatan Harapan coalition, with the hope that the message that Sabah wants its rights back and that they would be implemented immediately would be strongly heard and understood.

As for being a hero, he said he is not a hero because the two real heroes are the Sabah Law Society and the man who dared to ask the PM when he was going to pay Sabah its 40% during a walkabout at the Sunday Gaya Market here, recently.

“They are the real heroes, not me,” he stated, adding that while he respected his federal counterparts, a line had to be drawn when boundaries and rights were overstepped.

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2025...rights-concerns

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/760355

Keadaan menjadi semakin rumit apabila parti-parti komponen PH — seperti PKR, Pertubuhan Kinabalu Progresif Bersatu (Upko), Amanah dan DAP — turut berebut beberapa kerusi sesama sendiri.

Seorang sumber dalaman Upko berkata, rasa tidak puas hati semakin meningkat apabila parti-parti komponen PH lain mula menuntut kerusi sebelum rundingan dimuktamadkan.

“Masalahnya bukan sekadar jumlah kerusi.

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/759284

Sabah BN proposes three steps to regain public

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional is proposing three steps to regain public trust in the government following the damaging viral video alleging corruption that implicated 14 assemblymen under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government.

Its information chief, Suhaimi Nasir, said that the state Barisan would consider enacting a Sabah Free, Prior and Informed Consent (Sabah FPIC) framework to protect native customary rights (NCR) land, ensuring that no negotiations are conducted secretly or without the people's knowledge.

It also aims to implement structural reforms at the state-owned Sabah Mineral Management company to ensure there is no political interference in its decisions.

“We want the mineral company to be managed by independent professionals and not politically affiliated individuals,” he said.

Suhaimi said that priority should be given to locally owned companies in all development and resource exploitation projects.

“These three key steps will help restore public trust and ensure that resource management is transparent, trustworthy, and serves the people,” he added.

He said Sabah Barisan Nasional was seriously concerned over disclosures allegedly linking senior Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leaders to the management of the state’s natural resources, particularly mining.

Suhaimi, who is Libaran MP, said that Sabah needs the “political courage” to defend the rights of its people, as great wealth means nothing if the dignity of the state was compromised.

“Sabah’s land is not for sale, but to be inherited by future generations,” he added.

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2025...censing-scandal

Hajiji faces contempt application over alleged

SABAH caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is facing a contempt application after a businessman accused him of abusing Sabah’s immigration powers to block his entry into the state, allegedly preventing him from attending a corruption trial.

The Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court has fixed November 25 to hear an ex parte application by controversial businessman Albert Tei Jiann Chieng.

Albert Tei seeks to initiate committal proceedings against Hajiji for allegedly interfering with the due administration of justice.

He is seeking leave to initiate committal proceedings against Hajiji under Order 52 Rule 3 of the Rules of Court 2012 for allegedly interfering with the due administration of justice.

Tei, the defendant in a corruption case, claims he was twice denied entry into Sabah despite being legally required by his bail conditions to attend proceedings.

He was allegedly barred from entering the state on 22 September and again on 23 October 2025.

Tei is currently standing trial in the same court on two counts of offering bribes totalling RM350,000 to two Sabah lawmakers, Sindumin MP Dr Yusof Yacob and Tanjung Batu assemblyman Andi Suryady Bandy, in exchange for help securing mining exploration licences in the state.

He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

In his affidavit, Tei alleged that immigration officers told him the “not-to-land” order originated from the Chief Minister’s Office, effectively preventing him from meeting his lawyers and appearing in court.

“The respondent’s conduct demonstrates a clear and deliberate disregard for the sanctity of the court,” Tei said in his affidavit, describing the restriction as conduct that “strikes at the very heart of the rule of law.”

Tei’s lawyers from Messrs Chin Jingulam & Associates argued that the restriction violated Articles 5 and 8 of the Federal Constitution, which protect personal liberty, equality before the law, and the right to counsel.

Under Section 66 of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Sabah and Sarawak possess special autonomy to regulate the entry of non-residents, including Malaysians from the peninsula.

The state government may, through the Chief Minister, refuse entry or declare a person persona non grata “in the interest of the state.”

However, Tei’s counsel contends that using this discretion to bar an accused person from fulfilling a court-ordered obligation amounts to executive interference with the judicial process, undermining the right to a fair trial.

Legal observers note the case could test the boundary between Sabah’s immigration autonomy under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the judiciary’s constitutional authority over criminal proceedings.

A letter from the Sabah Attorney-General’s Chambers, dated October 6, denied any unlawful act and maintained that the Immigration Department acted lawfully under the Immigration Act.

Tei’s lawyers had earlier written to Hajiji’s office on October 2, seeking clarification but received no direct reply. He later lodged a police report at the Serdang District Police Headquarters, alleging abuse of power and obstruction of justice.

Hajiji remains in office in a caretaker capacity following the dissolution of the Sabah State Assembly on October 6, ahead of the state election set for November 29. — October 24, 2025

https://www.thevibes.com/articles/news/1144...e-in-court-case

YOUNG voters, especially those newly eligible at 18 years and above, have been urged to exercise their voting rights wisely in the 17th Sabah General Election by supporting the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which is widely recognised for its commitment to assisting people across all levels of society.

Datuk Isnin Aliasneh, Head of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Klias division, emphasised that the GRS government is the only political coalition genuinely focused on the development and future prospects of Sabah’s youth.

“I urge young people, particularly first-time voters, to give their support and votes to GRS. This is the party that has done much to help young people, including those still in school,” he told Sabah Media.

As the incumbent representative for the Klias state assembly seat, Isnin highlighted GRS’s success in boosting the state’s revenue and maintaining economic stability compared to previous administrations.

“GRS does not merely talk; it fulfils promises and demonstrates administrative capability. So, do not waste your vote on parties that only talk without action,” he added.

Mohd Isquzawan Israq Arsit, Head of the Gagasan Rakyat Petagas division, also appealed to young voters to recognise the government’s efforts in providing initiatives such as the Cash Assistance for Higher Education Registration (BUDI), the Student Assistance for Higher Education in Sabah (SENTOSA), and various other education-related aids.

“I hope young people and first-time voters will continue to support the GRS government for the future welfare of Sabah’s students and youth,” he said.

Meanwhile, Datuk Fairuz Renddan, Head of the Youth Movement for Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, underscored the decisive role of young voters in shaping the future direction of the state government.

“To all young people in Sabah, especially first-time voters, make the best decision. The future of this state is in our hands,” he said. “Go out and vote, do not miss this opportunity. Vote for stability, vote for GRS.” - October 23, 2025

https://www.thevibes.com/articles/news/1144...and-development

Sandakan SPCA condemns beating death of puppy

SANDAKAN, Oct 22 — Sandakan SPCA expressed deep distress over the case of a puppy that was beaten to death at Mile 6, here, on September 24.

“The puppy, believed to be under six months old, was reportedly beaten to death by an individual who has since admitted to the act in a video recording,” said the society’s Secretary Gin Voo in a statement, Tuesday.

According to information gathered by Sandakan-based animal welfare group, two eyewitnesses came forward with video evidence showing the individual openly confessing to killing the puppy, stating that he acted alone and was not instructed by anyone else.

In response, Sandakan SPCA has lodged an official police report, and the case is now under investigation by the Sandakan Police Department, led by a Sergeant overseeing the proceedings. A report has also been submitted to the Sabah Veterinary Department.

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2015, causing unnecessary suffering or death to an animal is an offence punishable by law. Sandakan SPCA emphasises that such cruel behaviour has no place in a compassionate society.

“We are heartbroken that acts of violence against innocent animals continue to occur,” Gin said.

“We urge the authorities to take appropriate action to ensure justice is served. It is our collective responsibility to protect those who cannot speak for themselves.”

Sandakan SPCA acknowledged the courage of the witnesses who stepped forward and provided the crucial evidence.

The organisation continues to monitor the case closely and will assist the authorities throughout the investigation. — Daily Express

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/202...of-puppy/195538

RIP puppy

Do not hold the federal government to political

A MEMBER of parliament today criticized the actions of certain parties who were allegedly trying to hold the federal government 'ransom' over Sabah’s constitutional right to 40 per cent of federal revenue collected from the state.

Pasir Gudang Member of Parliament, Hassan Abdul Karim said he was disturbed there were parties and ministers from Sabah who threatened the government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the issue.

“The political threat was, ‘If the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) appeals against the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s decision recognising Sabah’s constitutional rights regarding the payment of 40 percent of Sabah revenue, then the minister in the Federal government cabinet from Sabah will resign,’” he said in a statement on Monday.

Hassan said such threatening actions were unhealthy and were described as 'political ransom' which had never happened before.

He explained that in the 2026 Federal Budget, Sabah received the highest allocation compared to other states in the Peninsula including Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis and Kedah.

He said that the Kota Kinabalu High Court had granted permission to the applicant to file a judicial review and had made a decision, so it was appropriate for the AGC to be given the opportunity to review the grounds for the judgment.

"The course of the legal process cannot be obstructed. Give the AGC a chance to carry out its duties if we cherish the principles of the rule of law and the supremacy of the constitution," he stressed.

Hassan also questioned the action of disrupting the function of the court by giving the federal government an ultimatum.

He explained that a case that starts in the High Court can be appealed to the Court of Appeal and then to the Federal Court.

“If the reasons for the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s judgment are strong in terms of facts and law, of course the Court of Appeal will uphold the decision.

The same applies if it is appealed to the Federal Court,” he explained.

Hassan added that the issue involves Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution, and only the Federal Court has the role of making the final decision on constitutional matters.

“Malaysia as a federal country will break up if the politics of intimidation is used to weaken the federal government. Let the legal process run completely in an orderly manner from the High Court to the Federal Court,” he said.

The Kota Kinabalu High Court on Friday ruled that the federal government acted illegally and exceeded its constitutional powers when it failed to honour Sabah's right to 40 per cent of the federal revenue for almost five decades. - October 20, 2025.

https://www.thevibes.com/articles/news/1143...-ransom-says-mp
The Kota Kinabalu High Court has ruled that the federal government acted unlawfully and beyond its constitutional powers by failing to honour Sabah’s 40 percent share of federal revenue for nearly five decades.

Judge Celestina Stuel Galid, delivering her decision in open court, declared that the special grant arrangements made by both the federal and state governments were “unlawful, ultra vires, and irrational,” breaching the Federal Constitution.

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/758329

[Berita penuh menyusul]

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/758334

DAP Prefers GE16 And State Polls In Peninsula

DAP has proposed that the 16th General Election (GE16) be held simultaneously for both Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies (DUN), especially in Peninsular states, to ensure better party preparations and cost savings.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the proposal should be considered to ensure a smoother democratic process and more effective political strategies, particularly for parties under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

“In the last general election, polls had to be held separately due to several factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

“However, in a more stable political situation, it would be better if state governments, especially those under PH, discuss this matter with the Federal Government,” he told reporters after officiating the 23rd Annual Convention of Negeri Sembilan DAP here today.

He said although the dissolution of State Assemblies falls under state jurisdiction, coordination between state and federal levels is important in the interest of the people and the nation.

Earlier in his speech, Loke said international media had also reported that under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia had scored well, including in terms of a strong economy and political stability.

“Of course, the power to decide when Parliament is dissolved lies with the Prime Minister, but at the party level, our responsibility is to prepare so that we are in a strong position when the election is called.

“Although Parliament’s term can be extended until the end of 2027, several states such as Melaka, Johor and Sarawak will reach the end of their terms earlier (around 2026), which must be taken into account,” he said.

For the record, the State Assemblies of Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are expected to expire in 2028.

Commenting on the seat allocation within the Unity Government should elections be held, Loke said DAP’s principle is clear, that any seat won by a party must remain with that party.

“This principle is well understood by all parties. If we are working within the framework of the Unity Government, then we should not contest against one another. If Barisan Nasional (BN) wins a seat, we will not contest it. If DAP wins, other parties will not contest it,” he said.

However, Loke stressed that DAP does not compel its partners to continue such cooperation, as it is ultimately up to the stance of other parties.

“This is the framework and principle we have set. I never said we are forcing anyone to cooperate. What I emphasise is our commitment to making the Unity Government a success and our readiness to continue working together in the future,” he said.

-- BERNAMA

https://www.bernama.com/en/politics/news.php?id=2469700

Sabah STAR will quit GRS if Pakatan pact goes

TROUBLE is brewing in GRS as Sabah Star now threatens to walk away from the coalition if it concedes excessive ground to PH in the Sabah election.

Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan delivered his clearest ultimatum to GRS on Wednesday, saying he will walk away from GRS if too much political concessions given to the Prime Minister's coalition.

This comes as a decisive meeting is scheduled tonight between the GRS presidents to endorse what appear to be the seat sharing pact with PH.

The deputy chief minister said GRS was increasingly seen as bowing to national pressure, a direction he argued went against the mood on the ground.

“If GRS goes solo, I go along. If they don’t, then I can’t go along because that is going against the sentiment of the majority of the people. They are the ones deciding, voting. How can I go against the people?” he said.

Jeffrey singled out PH’s push to contest more seats as proof of federal overreach and his statements come following months of talks that Sabah Star was leaving GRS and paved a solo path.

“They are asking for 23 from 7. When I asked him (GRS chairman Hajiji Noor) last week, he said like 20, 21, like that. The most I could have agreed is if they maintain, maintain, they have 7 seats,” he said.

PH currently holds seven of Sabah’s 73 state seats. If the national alliance has over 20 seats that would give the Prime Minister's Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim coalition a third of the assembly.

Jeffrey insists that this would weaken the local voices.

The Tambunan assemblyman suggested the pact with PH was already decided behind closed doors but stressed he would not be bound by it.

“The way I look at it, when I met the CM a few days ago, they already decided. So if they have decided, the presidential meeting will be just an endorsement now,” he said.

“Even if my YBs abandon me, I will go myself. They can put me in jail, they can hang me, but they cannot hang my spirit, they cannot stop. They cannot break your spirit. Even if I have to go alone, I’ll go alone,” he said.

On 16 September, Jeffrey launched his Justice for Sabah campaign at the Batu Sumpah in Keningau, tying it to Malaysia Day as a call to reclaim rights denied under the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.

The move is also seen could see GRS supporters to split into those who were okay with the electoral pact with PH and those who want GRS to go solo.

Jeffrey believed that if he walked, GRS could face a split, with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) members also leaning towards a solo path.

“From the convention, it’s clear they want PBS-Star to go solo. And how can we ignore that? So if I go to the side of the members and the public, and the PBS members want solo also, if the leadership doesn’t go, then that is a disappointment. They will have to face the wrath of the members,” he said.

He recalled an 18 August meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Anwar Ibrahim and Zahid Hamidi, where PBS acting president Datuk Joachim Gunsalam signalled openness to PH.

On another development, Jeffrey also brushed off corruption allegations, including claims by businessman Dato’ Albert Tei that he pocketed RM1.78 million, describing them as political persecution.

“They accuse me of corruption, but this is just to make me yield. This is what they are doing — using corruption to silence me. But I will not give in.

“This is not new. They used Special Branch to try to monitor me. Then income tax, they used income tax. Eventually, when they could not find anything, they use ISA. Now corruption. But I am not worried,” he said.

He also accused Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of hypocrisy, saying it was Putrajaya who had taken billions from Sabah through its resources.

“In Anwar’s recent speech, what did he say? We steal billions of dollars? Are we stealing billions of dollars? Who is stealing billions of dollars? The federal government, they are the ones taking our oil resources. That means they rob us,” he said.

Jeffrey cited Article 112C of the Federal Constitution, which requires 40% of federal revenue collected in Sabah to be returned to the state — a provision he noted has never been fully honoured. - October 1, 2025

https://www.thevibes.com/articles/news/1134...grs-bends-to-ph
