Managing deceased asset

I've been thinking that if i suddenly die, how should my assets be managed. Whether it will be legally correct for my family members to withdraw liquid assets such as my bank balances through pin / cheque or joint FD, and should they do it before certain procedure such as reporting to JPN / police report etc.

TKL keyboard (87% below) with external numpad

Right-handed btw.

So the recent thread on aula f75 inspired me to dig more into this rabbit hole (thanks Baconteer) and I realized how wide the current keyboard has blocked my mouse movement making it an awkward posture when typing.

I googled a bit and found some 90%+ keyboard but those are with 1u zero which I think will make me crazy since I use excel heavily and thumb is naturally rested on the left part of zero key, plus home + end + page up + page down is used a lot in excel.

after some research I realized TKL plus an external keypad might be an okayish set up (and might be cheaper), especially when using the keypad on left hand side. A bit awkward after practicing a while suing current keyboard but those are habit, and I can always move it back to right hand side on heavy excel session.

so /k, anyone doing the same and has regretted?

PETALING JAYA: The government will give a six-month grace period in the first phase of electronic invoicing implementation, which will commence on Aug 1.

Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin said in a press conference on Friday (July 26) that violators will not be penalised during the grace period.

"During the six-month grace period, businesses will only need to submit a consolidated e-invoice for all their transactions.

"Even during the grace period, if consumers request an electronic receipt, businesses are not required to issue an electronic invoice," he said in a special e-invoicing press conference here on Friday (July 26), reported Sin Chew Daily.

Abu Tariq noted that consumers can still request a physical receipt.

The e-invoicing implementation is mandatory for companies with an annual revenue of RM10mil and above.

A total of 3.04 million withdrawal applications from Akaun Fleksibel were approved amounting to RM5.52 billion.

KUALA LUMPUR - The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) today announced that as of May 22, 2024, a total of 2.86 million applications to transfer the initial amount from Akaun Sejahtera to Akaun Fleksibel were received, involving an amount of RM8.78 billion.

According to the Corporate Affairs Department of EPF Media Desk, the option was opened to members on May 12.

Meanwhile, a total of 3.04 million withdrawal applications from Akaun Fleksibel were approved amounting to RM5.52 billion.

EPF chief operating officer, Sazaliza Zainuddin said, "EPF is expecting the number of applications from members choosing to transfer an initial amount from their Akaun Sejahtera to Akaun Fleksibel to continue to rise until the deadline on Aug 31.

"We are also pleased to see the significant increase in applications via KWSP i-Akaun mobile app. This reflects our efforts to enhance user experience and accessibility, as we continue to innovate and expand our digital offerings,” he said in a statement.

From May 12 to Aug 31, members will have an option to transfer one-third of their savings balance from Akaun Sejahtera to Akaun Fleksibel.

The transfer of the initial amount to Akaun Fleksibel is based on the balance in the member’s Akaun Sejahtera on the application date. Withdrawals from Akaun Fleksibel can be made at any time for any purpose, with a minimum withdrawal of RM50.

As the closing date for the option to transfer part of their savings in Akaun Sejahtera to Akaun Fleksibel is on Aug 31, members are advised not to rush into making the transfer. Members who have yet to register with the KWSP i-Akaun are encouraged to do so to enable withdrawal transactions from Akaun Fleksibel.

MACC exposes RM100 million rice supply fraud

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has exposed fraudulent activities by a rice supply company in Kedah that have disrupted the distribution and sales of the country's staple food.

According to sources, the company in question had secured a rice supply contract from a state government-owned agriculture company worth over RM100 million annually, approximately seven years ago, for rice supplies in Peninsular Malaysia.

It said that based on the contract awarded, the company had obtained a bank loan of about RM30 million to finance the project several years ago.

"The company director had conspired with a board member of the state government-owned company to confirm the purchase and delivery of approximately 28,000 metric tonnes of rice per year, estimated to be worth over RM100 million.

"However, the rice supply contract was not honoured by the company as per agreement.

"Moreover, the company in question is believed to have received about RM30 million through several transactions," he said today.

According to sources, the suspects were also said to have submitted documents with false details to the bank for loan financing application purposes.

Meanwhile, MACC's Senior Director of Investigations, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim, confirmed the investigation when contacted and said the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009

First property buyer - need some advice

Hi Sifu,

I am considering purchasing my first property for investment and am looking at the livista nearby my current house, as it looks quite convenient.

I am currently staying with parents so this will be for either appreciation (unlikely I guess) or mainly rental. I didn't pay attention or am well verse to the property market tbh, so would need some advice.

There are 2 choices now,

690 sqf - 2 bedroom 1 bathroom 1 carpark
1036 sqf - 3 bedroom 2 bathroom 2 carpark

As it is mainly for rental I am not too sure which has a higher occupancy rate, and what is the demographic for each size or which sqf is preferable for most tenant. Or possibly this location is less than ideal for rental due to other reason.

Selepas pengumuman saya pagi tadi bahawa pelekat "road tax" tidak lagi diwajibkan untuk dipaparkan di cermin kenderaan, saya tahu ramai yang ada pelbagai persoalan. Saya akan memberikan pencerahan kepada soalan-soalan yang sering ditanya;
1) Adakah wajib untuk download apps "MyJPJ"?
Tidak. Ia adalah salah satu opsyen sahaja untuk mendapat salinan digital untuk road tax dan lesen memandu.
2) Kalau tak dapat download apps MyJPJ sekarang dan tak dapat tunjuk digital road tax, adakah saya akan disaman?
Tidak. Pihak penguatkuasa boleh mengesahkan status road tax dan lesen melalui sistem dalam gadget penguatkuasaan.
3) Adakah road tax dan lesen memandu masih perlu dibayar selepas tempoh sah tamat?
Ya. Perlu dibayar. Hanya sticker tak perlu ditampal.
4) Kalau warga emas yang tak ada smart phone dan kawasan yang tak ada internet, macam mana?
Jangan bimbang, digital format bukan diwajibkan. Masih boleh dapatkan sticker road tax dan lesen fizikal dari JPJ sekiranya perlu.
5) Kalau kereta bukan dipandu oleh pemilik, macam mana tunjukkan digital road tax?
Senang sahaja, digital road tax boleh dicetak dalam kertas dan simpan dalam kereta. Namun, kalau tak dapat tunjuk bukti pun, bukan satu kesalahan...pihak penguatkuasa akan check butiran dalam gadget mereka.
6) Mengapa saya tak dapat login MyJPJ sejak pagi tadi?
Seperti mana-mana sistem yang baru, sudah tentu ramai orang ingin mendaftar pada masa yang sama. Trafik yang sangat tinggi.
Saya tahu ada banyak lagi persoalan oleh orang ramai. Kita akan cuba memberi penerangan yang sejelas-jelasnya.

COMMUNICATIONS and Digital minister Fahmi Fadzil has taken Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin to task for citing the headline of a “report” by an Italian news agency in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (Dec 19).

Raising questions about Agenzia Nova, Fahmi pointed out in a Facebook post last night that the website was not even on a Reuters list of the most-read news portals in Italy.

“Guess what? Agenzia Nova isn’t even in the list! What is this (Italian) Agenzia Nova website that Hamzah Zainudin was citing? Does it even have any credibility?” the Lembah Pantai MP asked.

“I thought the website Hamzah cited shares the same level as Bernama, BBC or New York Times but turns out it’s just an insignificant website.

“They didn’t even include the name of the journalist that wrote the article. Don’t try to scam us, Hamzah!”

Yesterday a shouting match erupted in the Dewan Rakyat following Hamzah’s disclosure that an Agenzia Nova report had referred to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s “first full-blown homosexual elected prime minister in an Islamic country”.

This had prompted Pakatan Harapan (PH) MPs to urge Hamzah to retract his statement.

Dismissing their calls, the Larut MP had told the MPs to allow him to finish his sentence, pointing out that he had simply wanted to ask Anwar if he was going to take stern action against international media companies who spread “disrespectful” news about the latter’s sexual orientation.

Hamzah went on to criticise the Government for policing content on video-sharing platform TikTok over allegedly racially-tinged content that had implicated Perikatan Nasional (PN) supporters as the main culprits.

He added that the Government’s actions went against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) election pledge to guarantee media freedom.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Agenzia Nova news portal is strangely inaccessible to many netizens in Malaysia.

A quick check by FocusM revealed that the website cannot be reached and the “ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT” error is displayed on the screen.

According to The Vibes, the article titled “Malaysia: First full-blown Homosexual Elected Prime Minister in an Islamic Country” published on Nov 24 after Anwar assumed office could be viewed with the use of a virtual private network, an online service that helps protect user privacy and circumvent website blockades.

Anwar was imprisoned over sodomy charges in 1998 and again in 2015. He was subsequently granted a royal pardon and released from prison in 2018. – Dec 20, 2022

KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) deputy chairman Jeffrey Kitingan has come out in support of a unity government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH).

The president of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), a component of GRS, said his party was on board with the King’s proposal to have a unity government to resolve the political impasse.

“A unity government is the best solution I can see right now. However, this government must include the elected governments of Sabah and Sarawak for it to be effective and truly inclusive.

“The unity government mechanism must be clearly established for it to work,” the Sabah deputy chief minister told FMT.

Kitingan said GRS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had 29 seats together, while two independent MPs and one from Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) have agreed to work together as one entity.

He said that since the “Borneo bloc” had 32 seats, it could provide the country with some much-needed stability.

“The peninsula leaders and political parties are making a mess of Malaysia. It is time for the Borneo states to lead the nation and provide stability,” he said.

On Monday, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor reiterated that the Sabah coalition was supporting Muhyiddin Yassin, the PN chairman, to become the next prime minister.

Meanwhile, despite initially stating its support for Muhyiddin, GPS seemed to have changed its stand after Barisan Nasional said it would remain in the opposition, with the Sarawak coalition saying it would let the King decide what was best for the people.

A source told FMT yesterday that GRS and GPS have agreed to work as a bloc in deciding who to form the government with, and GRS to follow their Sarawakian counterpart’s decision.

It is understood that GRS’ decision to work as a bloc with GPS had ruffled feathers in PN.

STAR is a part of PN, but contested on a GRS ticket in the general election, along with Sabah Bersatu and the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).

The other member of GRS that contested in the polls was Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

Kitingan said GRS will hold a meeting soon to discuss the matter if the political impasse remained unresolved by the end of this week.

“Right now, we are focused on state matters as we will be tabling the budget tomorrow,” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The statutory declarations (SD) sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had also included Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), sources claimed.

According to insiders privy to the matter, Muhyiddin did this despite GPS' statement today that the coalition would leave matters regarding the formation of a new government to the king's discretion.

They said this was the reason why Muhyiddin was left confused after his audience with the King at 4.30pm today when the monarch said the Pagoh MP did not have the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

One source said although Muhyiddin had submitted the SDs yesterday and GPS had only emerged with its statement today, it was widely understood that the deadline to submit such a document to Istana Negara was at 2pm today.

"As long as the deadline has not approached yet, anyone can change their mind.

"He (Muhyiddin) thought by submitting the SDs early it would help secure his second attempt to be prime minister.

"He said he was shocked at what His Majesty said, that he didn't have the majority, but the entire country had already seen the GPS statement earlier today.

"Basically, GPS' consent was not properly sought by PN," the source told the New Straits Times.

In the 15th General Election (GE15), PN scored 73 parliamentary seats, which is insufficient for the pact to form a government on its own.

In a press conference after his audience with the king today, Muhyiddin said he had submitted the SDs to Istana Negara yesterday.

According to him, he had secured the support of 115 members of parliament, hence a simple majority was achieved.

Without GPS's 23 seats, PN is now left with 92 seats.

The identities of the remaining 19 MPs who signed the SD with PN are not yet known, although it is believed that a significant number of them are from Barisan Nasional (BN).

Due to internal conflict, BN today decided it would not align itself with PN or Pakatan Harapan, although its secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the coalition's doors remained open for negotiations.

Since neither PN nor PH could secure the required majority, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has summoned all 30 BN MPs to Istana Negara tomorrow morning

MIRI – Parti Aspirasi Sarawak and concerned Sarawakians are urging Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to make an immediate U-turn on its decision to form a coalition government with PAS and Bersatu.

Aspirasi president Lina Soo, in a statement, demanded that GPS chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg change the coalition’s stance and side with Pakatan Harapan (PH) instead.

This comes amid talk that GPS and Abang Johari may have been misled into making a hasty decision in supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for prime minister.

Soo said Sarawakians are very worried about the decision taken by GPS and Abang Johari.

“Sarawakians abhor the thought of Sarawak parties linking up to form a federal government with Malaya parties known to have bias against race and religion in their policies and public propaganda.

“The wrong decision by GPS in this pivotal period will pull Sarawak into a tailspin of unending racial and religious controversies.

“GPS and Abang Johari should make an immediate decision now to side with the moderate-minded Pakatan Harapan to form the next government.”

Sources in GPS are hinting that Abang Johari and top GPS leaders may have been misled into hastily throwing their support behind PN and Muhyiddin.

“It looks like the meeting among Abang Johari, Muhyiddin and (Tan Sri Abdul) Hadi Awang was a hastily arranged one (yesterday morning).

“Abang Johari then flew back from KL to Kuching and announced the GPS decision without further deliberation,” said one source.

Sarawak PH leaders had since late Saturday urged GPS not to help elevate “extreme” Malaya parties to power in Putrajaya.

Today, netizens blasted GPS for announcing its support for PN.

GPS will be making a mistake of disastrous proportions if they help PN form the federal government as PAS and Bersatu capitalised on extreme propaganda in GE15, said Sarawak PH information chief Abun Sui.

Sui told The Vibes that Abang Johari must not give in to pressure from the PN leaders.

“Working with parties that have extreme agendas and racial and religion-based policies and putting such parties into power in the national administration will be a mistake GPS will regret.

“GPS is in a position to work with moderates in Pakatan Harapan. Join forces with PH to form the federal government together with Sabah partners who are also moderates.”

Yesterday, Johari announced that GPS was joining hands with PN, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah to form the federal government with Muhyiddin as prime minister.

Shortly later, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denied ever having an agreement with GPS or PN on the matter.

Sarawakians took to social media to express dismay with the decision taken by GPS and Johari.

GPS won 22 parliamentary seats out of 31 in Sarawak, with votes still being counted in the Baram constituency.

As it stands now, PH and its partners have won 82 seats, followed by PN’s 73, BN’s 30, GPS’, GRS’ six, Warisan’s three, Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s one, Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat’s one. Two seats were won by independents.

Meanwhile, the election for the Padang Serai seat will be held on December 7 following the sudden death of PH’s candidate and incumbent MP M. Karupaiya on November 16, three days before polling day.
