offer letter stated the first day of employment and signed, but later recruitment firm informed the date delay due to their client still preparing things like access id and other documents.

do the recruitment / client firm have the right to do that? i mean any of them suppose to bear the responsibility? can they just prepare another offer letter with revised date and ignore the first agreement?

i've been asking from time to time and it's been almost 2 weeks there's still no answer.

not sure if here is the best place to open this tered...

yesterday one of the fluorescent lamp in my living room stop working. i tried to change the starter, nothing happened so i insert back the original starter.

but when i replaced the tube and try to switch on the light, there was a big pop and circuit breaker tripped.

i dont dare to change anything at the moment, any sifu here knows what happened?

Career Dilemma

Hi All,

I started my full time work as a COBOL programmer since I graduated in 2007. Have been working in different firms in between, mainly IT in banking.

However, I quit COBOL and start working in IT dept in University in 2016, mainly because my career was stagnant and not given chance of being a lead/ management role, and the new office is near my home and I wanted to try what it's like to work in different industry. I even rejected an COBOL software engineer offer at that time when I was serving my probation period.

I thought I could start fresh and giving my best so that my contribution/ effort could be recognized and rewarded. This is my 4th year here, I got nothing extra for what I've done. KPI exceeds expectation but gets no extra increment/ bonus. This University does not really recognize staff effort. I was actually demotivated during my first performance review, now I'm devastated. Imagine yearly increment, after work for more than 10 years is the same as freshgrad's increment. Yes same exact amount.

Should I look back into COBOL career path? Would anyone accept me with 3 years gap of not doing COBOL? Or should I try another industry from the ground? Or should I just stay and suck it up?

I'm so lost... please advise me sifus.....
