Problem with MOBO?

LYN Pros,

I am facing an odd problem and was wondering if anyone faced a similar problem to what I am having.

History: Network adapter attached to my MOBO went missing and unable to detect it. Tested with an external PCI Network card, it worked but only for a while then it will auto disconnect and I am only able to connect again after I restart my PC. I then decided to send my MOBO for RMA. Yesterday I received a newly refurbished MOBO from Asus, installed my previous hardware and this is what I face now...

Current: When I plug in the power cable into the PSU and switch on the wall socket the CPU automatically powers up, fans, light all turn on without me pressing the power button, then after 2 secs the PC automatically shuts down. No beeps at all.

Troubleshooting conducted:

1. Re-seat RAMS
2. Place 1 RAM on each slot
3. Removed all RAMS, power on, and the MOBO will beep to let me know there is no RAM
3. Re-seat and removed all PCI cards
4. I have 3 HDD and tested individually with similar results
5. Re-seat power to MOBO and CPU
6. Checked multiple times if all the necessary ports are plugged in correctly

9/12 Update:

7. Removed battery to clear CMOS (Seems that this mobo got no jumper to clear CMOS)
8. Tested different PSU with similar results (Switch on wall socket, PC fires up then shuts down)
9. Tested PSU on a diff PC working normally
10. Remove/Reseat processor

Sometimes when I switch on the wall socket it will not power on automatically and I am able to normally press the power button to switch it on. When that happens the power, fan, and lights all come up. HDD light seeks for a while then turns off then everything remains idle without anything on screen.

I am really out of ideas on how to find the source of the problem... Any suggestions?

26/12: Second round RMA and all is working good! Topic Closed!

Fried MOBO?

Need your advice to save my wife...

After a loud thunder yesterday evening my PC turned off and could not be switched back on.

Troubleshooting I have conducted so far:

1. Wall plug socket works on other devices
2. When plugged in, PSU lights up and MOBO light is also up
3. Tested with a new PSU with the same results (MOBO lights up but no response upon pressing the power button)
4. Tested old PSU on another PC and it powers up fine

Now my questions:

Is my MOBO fried? - I can't find any burnt marks although there is a faint burnt smell whenever I switch on the power supply.

Anywhere else I can check or can I just conclude its a problem with my MOBO?

All your help is much appreciated.

[WTA] Car Battery

Hi there,

I recently faced a problem with my car and was wondering if you guys know what is the cause of my problem before I head to the work shop.

When I drive my car with the radio and air conditioning on - Radio will auto shut off and restart, once in a while will hear a "chik" sound coming from somewhere in the engine area. Lights will dim then become bright again and the battery symbol appears for a second then goes away.

However, when I switch off my Air-conditioning everything runs smoothly. No "chik" sound, radio does not shut off and lights remains bright.

Is this due to a faulty/dying battery? or something wrong with my Air-Conditioning?

All comments are welcomed

Thanks!

Domain File Sharing

My company controls users via Windows Domain server settings.

Majority of my PCs here run on WinXP Pro but there are small handful of PCs still running on WinXP Home.

My problem is file sharing between WinXP Pro > WinXP Home. I don't have any problems sharing to Everyone but I need to set user access permissions. WinXP Pro users have no problem accessing the shared folder as they are automatically logged into the domain server as soon as they login to Windows. However I am unable to configure file sharing access for WinXP Home users.

I just need to find a way for WinXP Home users to login to my Domain Server and all my file sharing problems will be solved.
