Monthly Savings

Hi all,
I have a question regarding monthly savings.
Currently i'm saving RM1,000 monthly in my ASB, but i can only get "profit" end of the year.
If i save the same amount in a bank (i'm actively using CIMB and Alliance Bank), is it the same case?
Or do they give out interest quarterly or something?

I'm getting married end of this year so i'm planning to take out some cash from my ASB so i'm thinking it would be a waste saving there.
Because this is what i have in mind.

Example:
Savings January 2012 - November 2012 : RM1,000 x 11 months = RM11,000

Say i take out RM10,000 from there in November, come December when ASB closes, i will only earn 6%-8% out of the RM1,000 left there right?
So in a way, there's no point saving there if i'm going to take it out in the near future am i right?

How about bank's saving accounts?
Does it work the same way?
Or do they give out interest every 6 months or something?
If that's the case, i might get something from the RM6,000 i save from January 2012 - June 2012 even if i take some out in November right?
Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Also, which bank is the best to save in?
