recommendation for RM2.5k laptop

guys, i've got a friend who needs to buy a laptop, with only RM2.5k in hand. Mainly will be used for cad(solidworks, proengineer, catia), no serious gaming. As i know, cad softwares would benefit more for i7, but i doubt his use(he's an undergraduate) will put it to good use. Also, he needs it immediately, cant wait for revised sandy bridge and preferably 14". These are the ones i recommended:

acer 4820tg
asus a42JP
asus X42JR
asus N43JF

anything else? Or which among this list is not good, and which is best? and cad softwares would need a good gpu as well right? Is it ok to recommend X42JR?

updating drivers for my laptop

hi guys, there's something really noobish that i need to ask which i just found out about after hanging around in this forum...which is updating drivers. As a matter of fact i've never done it...used to think its one of those automatic updates on my lappy. It has to be manually done? Can't configure it to automatically update? Also, now i'm using an old vaio with integrated intel gc. So if i wana update the display driver, go to intel website or sony? Or just go to device manager and select to update it, it'll automatically find its own update? Thanks in advance.

14" laptop recommendation

guys, i'm looking for a 14" laptop with a core i7 proccessor(not sandy bridge) and graphic card gt540m or above for RM3.5k or less(after increasing to 3 years warranty). Any recommendations? Mainly used for gaming(cod black ops, mass effect 2, dead space 2, etc...) and cad softwares(autocad, proengineer, solidworks, etc....). Preferably asus or dell, thanks.

dell xps15, dell studio xps16, or asus A42JA?

hello all...

I'm pretty new here and I need help in deciding between these 3 machines, as my budget is around RM3500. These 3 are the ones I've selected which i think have the best specs for its price range and it suits my usage, which is mainly for gaming, programming, and CAD dawing. I'm no pro though, so other recommendations will be appreciated. Below are the specs for the machines..

DELL XPS15 (RM3499)
-intel core-i7-740QM(1.73Ghz turbo to 2.93Ghz)
-Windows 7 home premium
-4Gb ram
-640Gb hard drive
-15.6" HD WLED display(1366x768)
-2Gb nvidia geforce GT435M
-1 year warranty

DELL studio XPS16 (RM3399)
-intel core-i5-460M(2.53Ghz turbo to 2.8Ghz)
-Windows 7 home premium
-4Gb ram
-500Gb hard drive
-15.6" full hd 1080p
-1Gb ATI mobility radeon HD5730
-1 year warranty

Asus A42JA-VX061V (RM3599, though i heard it has dropped to about RM3000, not sure though)
-intel core-i7-740QM(1.73Ghz turbo to 2.93Ghz)
-Windows 7 home premium
-4Gb ram
-640Gb hard drive
14" HD color shine LED(1366x768)
-2Gb ATI mobility radeon HD5730
-2 year international warranty

I haven't exactly done proper research on other brands, but there're reasons to it. These are the reasons why I singled out these 3..
-I think xps15 has the best performance/specs to price
-i like the design of xps16
-i heard asus is the most reliable brand which is why I looked into it. Of course, dell has the best customer service in Malaysia, but i prefer if i don't have to contact them at all.(i've had a few friends who've had plenty of problems with their dell notebooks. Of course, i know it also highly depends on the user and model...)

Also, i have few additional specs about these machines which i need some clarification about, as well as a few questions which i hope pros here can answer me...
-xps15 has 2 3.0 usb ports...is that necessary? its not like i have anything else at home that can make use of it. Or its good if usb 3.0 becomes mainstream about next year?
-i heard xps15 supports 3D...can someone confirm this? sure its cool, but don't think i'm going to make use of it too
-is core-i7 overkill for my usage?
-which notebook has the least overheating problem?
-as i know, gt435m and radeon hd5730 performs about the same. What i want to know is...does the gpu ram really matters much? because in this case, only xps16 has 1Gb of gpu ram
-i know xps16 is full hd...but what about the other 2? also, xps15 has a bigger screen compared to asus which is awesome for gaming, but the resolution is the same..so would it be blurrer or clearier?
-can anyone confirm the price drop of the asus A42JA?

Thanks in advance for any replies and any feedback and recommendations will be deeply appreciated.
