Weird problem with Sony RX100...

This is my RX100 M5A.

Recently developed a weird problem, the moment I turn on it's focus locked and all the buttons on the back become unresponsive (click on them and nothing happens). Only the power button works.

Is it a software/firmware problem? Anyway, can reset the camera?

Or I have to send it back to service center to troubleshoot?

It is a santoku knife with a 165mm long blade. The blade has a 3-layer construction; the cutting edge is Takefu Shiro 2 (White 2) steel and the sides use SUS410 stainless steel.

Shiro 2 is a high carbon steel and it is not stainless, please wash and dry the knife shortly after use.

Like all properly made Japanese knives, this knife is sharp and cuts well. It is also lightweight and very suitable for home use. Made in Seki, Japan.

I heard a lot of positive things about this mouse but could not find it locally. So I bought one from Europe.

Tested it for a few days. Technically the mouse is superb, but unfortunately the shape and size doesn't quite suit me. So I'm putting it up for sale here. Condition is as good as new.

How to use 3TB HDD with Win XP?

I got an older PC running Win XP SP3.

Planning to use a 3TB HDD (WD Red), but don't need it connected inside the PC. I plan to use a USB external HDD dock. Using it this way, can my PC see the whole 3TB HDD?

Note: I'm not using a branded enclosure like WD My Book Essential, etc. I'm planning to use a normal slipper type of dock connected using USB.

Help reading 3TB and 4TB HDD

Hi, my PC is still running Win XP and I know it cannot support those large HDD like 3TB or 4TB.

Is there any way for my PC to access those large HDD? Maybe using an external USB dock?

How to download relative subfolders?

Hi, what I wish to do is get a program that can help me download (via FTP) files according to the relative subfolders in my remote FTP server.

On my FTP server I keep a directory of my files split into many different subfolders. Can a download manager download them and save to my PC according to those subfolders automatically?

I did trial IDM 6.11 and it is fast but it cannot do this. IDM has a Grabber feature, which I think can do this, but Grabber doesn't support FTP.

Any advice?

Are current LCD TVs ok for Astro?

Recently my in law's CRT TV died and they bought a Philips 32" LCD TV to replace it. It was a lower end model, this one: http://www.philips.com.my/c/televisions/30...fl3605s_98/prd/

They watch mainly Astro (the normal one, not Beyond). That day I saw it and I noticed the quality for Astro was not bad. Not as good as CRT, but close. This was much better than what I recalled from 2 years back when Astro PQ on LCD TV was really unacceptable. Now at least it's acceptable, though not great.

Are other LCD TVs like that also? Which shop has normal Astro to demo LCD TVs?

Who else can do earbuds cable repair?

How many using UPS, esp for projector...

Just wondering, for those of you using projectors do you also use a UPS? This is to provide backup power in case of electricity blackout, then the fans can still operate to cool down the unit.

2 months ago, I was halfway watching a movie when the power went out. Made me think about a UPS...

What is the sub level in your AVR?

After you run Audyssey or YPAO (for Yammy owners) do you leave the sub level as is or do you run it 'hot' (i.e. add a few more dB). My settings:

Original: -10.0 dB
Movies: I add +2.5 dB
Music: I reduce -2.5 dB

Just wanna check what settings you all use.

Telos speaker caps...

Thanks to moomoos I was able to loan 6 units of the Telos speaker caps from C&O to try out at home. I got interested in them after reading moomoos opinion here.

The caps are well machined and gold plated. The base material is copper.

What you do is insert them into a spare pair of speaker posts (in case your speaker has 4 posts and you're only using 2), like so:

I asked for 6 units so that I can cover my fronts and center. Well, I can say that the difference is immediately noticeable. No need for break in whatsoever. With the caps on the background is noticeably quieter. It's like the noise floor has dropped and it's blacker. You can hear subtle sounds better and images were more focused.

However, it was not all good news because the whole sound character became darker. Some of the shimmery highs and air were lost. My wife (who I also roped in to listen) described it as more muted. Pulling out all the caps restored the liveliness to the music. But I did miss the quieter background.

So what to do? I then tried a compromise, just plug the fronts and don't cover the center. For the moment this combination seems acceptable to me. I get a quieter background, without loosing too much of the highs. The quietness is very appealing actually. For example when watching an episode of Lost, one of those scenes in the jungle at night with just 2 people talking - the quietness does allow the speech and some of the subtle jungle noises to be more distinct. Voices are also more focused and warmer.

If I were to relate it to pictures, it would be like turning up the contrast and decreasing a bit of the brightness. Anyway, I'll listen and play around with them a bit more before deciding.
