Internet SPeed Problem with Router

Hi all, I subscribe to MAxis Fixed Line Broadband and I have a Router which I have been using for the past two years. Every one or two months, I have to make a phone call to Maxis to ask them to reset the 'port' because my internet speed will end up painfully slow after a while. This went on for a few years and each tiem they reset the port, the speed becomes okay again.

Few days ago, I called them up to complain again. This time despite resetting the port, still slow like dead tortoise. So they send a technician over and immediately the technician replaced the modem. He unplugged my router and plug direct into my PC.

The speed was fast again. But when he plug back to my router, the speed become painfully slow again. I ask him to plug back to PC and again it was fast. Plug back to router, again painfully slow. In the end, he say my router got problem.

What I dont understand is that a router is a router. How can my router cause these speed problems? If i were to change a router, what brand should I get and what model? Whats the diff between a cheap router and an expensive one?

Magnetic BB case

does the magnetic bb flip case really work in reducing battery usage on BB? I came across several shop recommending me to get the magnetic casings which are supposed to save battery but I also see many BB users who do not have magnetic cases. How much improvement does it have as compared to bareback casings? the magnetic casing is quite thick u know. Makes the BB much bulkier but if it significantly saves battery, why not? anyone can share?

Ipad for 70 year old?

Hi, do u think it is suitable to get an Ipad for my 70 year old dad? His birthday is coming soon and I dunno what to get him. He like to browse the internet using the notebook but I dunno if an ipad would be suitable in view that the fonts are small and one needs to constantly 'flick' the screen to enlarge the fonts. Is there any way to make the default fonts much larger?
