WinXP, Start Menu -> Any Submenu, freeze

Hi,

I am helping my friend to fix a PC. Below is the problem:

OS: WinXP SP2

When I click on start menu, then when it opens any submenu, including All Programs, then the start menu freeze. Then I can click on other place on the desktop and the start menu will close normally.

When I open an application, it will take forever to load and displayed Not Responding.

That's the problem i encounter currently.

This PC can startup normally and any shared network resource can be opened by another computer. Besides that, when it open a explorer, like My Computer, it will not freeze.

So, I would like to ask if anybody have encounter this type of problem?

Is there any software like VNC but faster?

I wonder is there any software like VNC that can view my desktop remotely through wifi which is faster than it?
Sometimes i was lazy to walk down to change a bit of thing at desktop and then walk back to my room and continue with my laptop.

Different Ping values

Hello,
I juz wan to ask wat is the prob here?? I ter-Use my neighbour's connection (WIFI no password) and I purposely juz to test the ping value to TMNet DNS Server (202.188.0.133).
Before tis, i asked my friends to test it out for me and they all get my neighbour's ping values (20~30) while my ping values (45+). Tis happens about a year when i started to know ping.

Here is mine connection:

I had tested on all combination of TMNet IP like 218.111.x.x, 218.208.x.x, 60.48.x.x....etc
The result is same for mine.

So, wat is causing tis different values? Juz curious about it. I subscribed this line about 4~5 yrs ago, will it be the main problem which causing tis? My neighbour next door juz moved in and this line is sure newly subscribed (I Think...)

Gigabit Ethernet

Halo.

I just change both my PC to gigabit network card. I m using p2p currently. I m mapped a network drive so that the other comp can play the games through that shared drive.

Here is the problem.

When speed is 1Gbps
- The games can't run at all and display error reporting to Microsoft.
- Alcohol cannot mount the image in the share drive.
- BUT, copying files works perfectly and almost as fast the harddisk can write.

then I change the speed to 100Mbps to try out.
- The games and cd images runs perfectly but onli 100Mbps speed.
- File transfer also same with 100Mbps speed.

So...
May i know what cause this? and is there anyway to fix that?

Can it be Windows XP cannot support gigabit? *My thoughts

Gigabit Ethernet

Halo.

I had bought a set of SMC Gigabit Ethernet Card for my PCs. 1 of my PC is sharing games installation through map network drive. It is slow if using the 100Mbps so i decided to get Gigabit.

Here's my problem...
After I installed both cards and it works perfectly in transferring files. But when i run the games, the PC mentioned cant run the games at all and display Error Report to Microsoft. Then i try set the speed to 100Mbps, it works again... I set it back to 1Gbps, failed to run again... So, what is the problem here? and how to fix it?

Hi,

I was using full screen webpage as the background. Therefore i hid those icons. But then, today I change back the background into picture files and i show those icons. I was surprised that the icons are group by "Show In Groups".
But that option is not available on desktop. And now i cant even untick it and auto-arrange, align to grid are grayed out... So... how to change it back?

PCI Radeon 9250 = Radeon 7000 series?

I just bought a PCI Radeon 9250 today and after i install the drivers, it shows that it is a Radeon 7000 series card. Then I downloaded the latest driver but while installation, it says 'no driver found'. What is the problem here?

If it is the seller problem, is it possible to ask him for refund or change to another product in LY?
